Can't connect to Tesco website

I sent the OP a link to a dirt cheap BT router. Always worth holding on to old routers for testing and emergencies.
Carboots are best but eBay is also good.
BT should be wanting to solve the problem by looking at the router's stats but BT have no idea and would better sticking to installing phone lines.0 -
I just installed the BT Voyager 210 and it has made no difference. The Tesco website will still not load.0

Can you plug in another laptop/PC to try now?
Also, go get HiJackThis http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ and paste the Notepad file here for us to see what's running.0 -
I had a similar problem a while back with the Tesco site, particularly the internet phone site. It turned out, after hours of fiddling about, that O2 had changed my IP address to a new one that Tesco had blocked as being a non-UK one. (I don't have a static IP incidentally).
Might be worth considering0 -
Also try going via 212.140.185.177
Type those numbers in your address bar and hit enter.
Tesco could be blocking your IP address (do not post that here) but it's rather unlikely but you may be able to force a change to your IP address to test this. Saying that you did reach Tesco via that proxy (which changes your IP address).
Also, have you tried logging into Tesco on an entirely different machine at a different place?
See how you get on.0 -
I still have my old PC with XP on it,if I re-connect that one then it works fine and Tesco loads up okay (which is what I'm having to do once a week at the moment). that one works with the wireless BT Home Hub as well.
Tried typing in IP Address on new PC,but with same problem.

I see in an earlier post you say you have AVG installed.
I (and others) have had big problems with AVG9 interfering with web browsing, I've had to uninstall it and switch to Avast!.
Might be worth trying.

I am trying to find another modem that I can borrow to try it out,but the router worked fine for the last year on my old computer?
I have tried IE8,Firefox,Opera and Google Chrome but have the same problem with all of these.
Will come back when I can test a different modem.
Not sure if this is relevant as I am far from an expertbut I have two lappys, old one running XP and new running Windows 7. The Windows 7 one wouldn't work properly with my router wirelessly but would with a wired connection. When I say properly, the lappy would connect to the router and the router to the net but not the lappy to the net - I could update my virus protection but not use Google!! Had to change the DNS server to make it work wirelessly: the PlusNet guy said there is a problem with Windows 7 and some routers.

That's interesting - could explain why I'm unable to get my Nokia 5530 to work with a Wi-Fi signal from a Belkin router. It sees the Wi-Fi OK but won't connect to it - even with all the security taken off. Odd thing, though - the netbook works fine with the signal from the router.0 -
Yes, as others have said dump AVG. I recommend that for anyone on genuine XPSP3, VistaSP2 and Windows7. These programs have very big changes since AVG came along and I think AVG (and other apps to be fair) struggle now competing and living with with the inbuilt security of Windows.
You aught to have only one antivirus and I recommend (for most people) the free www.microsoft.com/security_essentials This from Windows of course so has many many millions of testers (ie users).
==========================
Anyway, back to the original post.
We now know the problem lays squarely with the computer. Very little doubt about that (so far).
Get AVG off using the removal tool (you seem to have a 64bit system) http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arv_sup_____.dir/avgremoverx64.exe or 32bit/ http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe This removes EVERYTHING usually including settings which may be important. When you remove AVG make sure you already have MSE on your desktop ready to go and be off the Internet (unplug your router from the mains) before removal. Restart too before installing MSE. Plug your router back in as MSE will want to update,
As for your HiJackThis, there's quite a bit of crapware on there and since you installed it I'd say leave it alone (cos you'll just put it right back on). If removing AVG doesn't solve the problem then I'll recommend some other things to kill.
See how you get on0
