Oh I'd love that! So French - and they never back down!

    Except during a war.

Why are our Continental neighbours far more adept at letting their grievances be known?

The French will not hesitate to blockade a port, block a motorway, close an airport etc.

The Spanish will do the same a good recent example was when Nissan announced the closure of a plant near Barcelona - within 24 hours every window of every Nissan showroom in Catalunya was smashed! (I am not condoning criminal damage though.)

It sickens me that so many of the Great British Public will take the attitude of "it's too difficult", "it won't make a difference", "no point bothering".

Perhaps we shouldn't have bothered fighting Nazi opression and the overwhelming might of the German machine in the 40's? Perhaps Magellan and Columbus shouldn't have bothered with their exploration of the world? Perhaps we shouldn't have persevered with the difficulties in developing microchips to make the modern world what it is? Should we pack up the fight against cancer too, because it's hard??

One thing in life is certain.... if you don't TRY, you won't GET.

It's because we are 'British' - and we have stiff upper lips. We take whatever is dished out to us. If we disagree, we stifle our outbursts by sticking our heads in the sand. We are proud to be British and stand up for what we believe! As long as we don't make a fuss or make too much noise, then it will go away...........

And we will carry on moaning and whinging on here and other sites, and to friends and colleagues, but we won't actually do anything about it. We will go out and buy a bull dog and fly a union jack in our front garden and hope that it all goes away...

  • You know what?

The media somehow is not taking up the issues that we all seem to care about - why is that? What can we do? Can we do anthing? Is this a free country or a dictatorship?

I know what I am thinking right now.

You already know the answer Jeannie, the media are bought and paid for just like the 3 party state politicians are, all speaking the same drivel all reading from the same hymnsheet and all feathering their nests very nicely thankyou while Rome or in this case Blightly burns.

You couldn't get a fagpaper between them, all spouting the same rubbish and only remoetely intersted in the electorate when there's an election due.

It'll get worse here, a lot worse and as for talk of doing it the continental way, blockades etc...we have the state police service here, politically managed and ready to do whatever is needed to keep the status quo, there's reams of anti terror laws they can pick from to take out anyone who raises a protesting arm.
Mass protest?...cctv dear fellow...we can pick them off one by one at our leisure.

How many poor souls who died to defend freedoms for us must turn in their very graves.
  • You know what?

All you negative not get off your backsides type attitude really do sum up this country at the moment!

So ready to pick at anything anyone else does or tries to do - but do absolutely nothing, nothing to contribute to anything!

This petition - if it had had the attention of the media would've escalated - same as if the block exemption had caught the attention etc.... etc.....

The media somehow is not taking up the issues that we all seem to care about - why is that? What can we do? Can we do anthing? Is this a free country or a dictatorship?

Gosh, it must have taken so much of your time to click a few buttons and start/engage with this petition. How devoted you must be to this cause, for your to spend your time in this way, sat on your !!!! in front of your computer, clicking buttons and tapping keys. How thoroughly energetic of you.

Meanwhile, I spend my weekends shovelling !!!! and cutting down trees from a derelict canal I'm helping restore, and I'm also spending my time and money on the preservation and restoration of a 180-year-old waterwheel, for future generations.

You're in cloud cuckoo land if you think that No.10 petitions make the slightest bit of difference. If you really want change, you have to start banging on doors. Not whinging on the internet.

I have done more than whingeing on the internet. I have what I can with the time that I have. I go out to work full time and work long hours - I do not have the time to faff around with anything that is 180 years old when any time that I do have, I think towards the future.

My concern is with how to manage my money etc. - hence this website, I find what I have to pay for fuel, tax and etc. - like many others, to be far too expensive and we are, no doubt, getting ripped off.

You, obviously, are not worried about the pennies, as you can indulge your whims - alot of us can't.

    No one has the answer.

So you've reasons why you dont actively try to change things, as opposed to being a keyboard warrior. ;)

    Good for you!

Meanwhile those of us whom you actively criticised are actually getting off our asses and doing something about it - but you're too busy.

Actually, i've made an effort to do something.

It really stung hard last time when diesel prices hit 135p per litre, and heating oil prices went through the roof. Not that i couldnt afford it, just that i though why the !!!! should i?

So when i was due to change my car, i bought the most economical car for my budget, reduced my mileage to non stupid mileage, and changed our heating source for our new house, when it would have been cheaper and easier to just stick an oil boiler in.

I'm personally trying to minimise the money the government gets from me, and we can all do the same, over time, with small steps. THATS how we hit them, THATS how we make a difference.

But sure you just go ahead clicking a few buttons and be all pretentious about it. ;)

I have 'actively' done alot of things and I am not about to write a list! What I do NOT have time for, is to indulge in fantasies of restoring old things when I have to work full time, any spare time I get - I spend it trying to work how to live as cheaply as possible! Hence this site! If you don't get that - then think about it!!

Why attack me? All I am trying to do is encourage people to get off their backsides and do something and get attacked for being on here! hey - I am not on here as much as the others - check it out! Now let us work out who the keyboard warriors are! Count the posts!

Suggest you read back thru the thread, it will make more sense then.

Meanwhile, I am going to restore something old....
