OS Daily Thread - Friday 12th March 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 12th March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Bonjour mes amis
The hotel room is a little warm, so cannot nod back off, but we did crash out just after 10 so have had a good sleep. Trying to be quiet as DH still asleep.
Will be crossing back this lunchtime, after investigating the wine sellers:o
The answer to the wet ham query, is that some people call the packaged moist ham, wet ham, and the ham carved from the bone, dry ham.
np MSD - How are you?
LOWSEY - Take the boots back, it sounds like a manufacturing error, especially if you can see a piece of steel where the hole is. I had with some of mine I took back over a year later and they exchanged them, even though I had to pick some slightly different.
((hugs))

Morning lovely OS-ers!
Hi Donny - I know you have only posted the sticky so far, which means you must be typing away somewhere but thought I would post as I was up!!:rotfl:Pipkin - Good luck at the hospital today hon
Mioliere - Wow that is a lot of work you have in front of you.. can't wait to see the before and after pics!
N9eav - I am a big fan of Mika and know Calvin Harris's work too but the rest are a mystery.
Hart - I hope you feel better today.
csarina - thank you for that, I love learning something new! I wonder why it is called a 'fat' quarter.. I should google and see if I can find out.
Bargain - I too would love to know what a wet ham sandwich is!
MMM - hugs honeyI have an extremely important meeting today and could use some positive vibes around 1430 onwards if anyone can spare any. I know it will be a long meeting. I am hoping that this will lead to me being able to see my nephews again one day soon, so it is really really important that the outcome is in my favour. Thank you.
Breakfast will be yoghurt and fruit and maybe some toast when my OH gets up. Lunch will be cheese savoury sandwiches again, and dinner will be spare ribs and sticky rice.
I hope everyones day goes well and that anyone feeling poorly feels better. With love and light for all.

Wow posting was hard this morning, they are having problems with the site apparently! To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0 -
Diva - will be thinking about you all day - fingers crossed that you get the outcome that you want. Stay strong. xx
Today we're off to see MIL who has cancer with questionable time remaining. So the DSs will see her whilst I take the dog for his vaccination. Then I'm going to try to persuade her to let me buy fish and chips for everyone - kids portions only as I've started to lose weight again (YIPEE!). Hopefully at some point this afternoon OH will arrive and will tell me if he still has his job or not - he's hoping to find out today.
Then I'll take the kids and the dogs off to do lots of walking and cleaning at our house - whilst OH and his Mum get to spend some time together. Only fly in the ointment could be the traffic and the kids behaviour up the motorway - but nothing I've not managed before!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Good morning all.
Diva I have everything crossed that the visit will work to your favour xx
esmf73 Enjoy your time with MIL today and hope that the kids behave on the motorway
Lowsey Still thinking about you hon & take all the time you need xxx
I am off today and am looking forward to meeting my friend this afternoon for some girly chat time. We haven't got together for nearly 2 weeks so we'll have lots to catch up on.
Tea tonight was supposed to be chicken sweet & sour but I was so tired last night that I forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer
so I'll bring forward one of the meals from later in the week.
I want to finish the Flylady list today as well so the house is all spic & span for the weekend.
Yesterday was a big learning curve and I felt like a dinosaur at times as it took me ages to work out how to use the photo copier and to make new folders on a memory stick! It's all good though and I'll get better.
Hugs to anyone who needs them and I'll pop back in later on xxx0 -
Good morning guys,
Woke up again at 5.30am and can't get back to sleep so I'm just pottering around quietly enjoying the peace.
Plans for today are to make a big pan of bologneise sauce and portion it up, some for the freezer and some for a lasagne for tea, I am also going to make a quiche for the weekend and a cake or two to use up some eggs. I have a little more touching up to do in the hall with the gloss as LO has been chucking toys down the stairs again  and there are a few nicks in the paintwork. My ironing pile is up to date
but there is a wash to do and then the usual swish, swipe and hoover later when the kids have gone to bed.
I was unable to fix the loo and on Monday left messages for 3 plumbers on their phones for help, up until today not one has replied! Fortunately a friend's sister's husband is a plumber and she was able to get him to come out and he fixed it sgtraight away :T:T He also showed me that the overflow pipe for the loo led out to ............. the bathroom floor!! so he fitted a new piece to regulate the water flow, sealed up the overflow and fixed my flush all for £40 - well done that man. I have also spoken to the manafacturers of my boiler last Monday and they are sending out an engineer today to fix it. It seems the boiler can only be between 5 + 8 years old so it's a bit premature to think of replacing it, however it has cost an up-front payment of £287 :eek:but this includes a years warranty on labour, parts and fitting (the parts should be bloomin gold plated for that price :rotfl:)
Gentle hugs and positive thoughts where needed today (Diva) and I hope you all have a good Friday.

Seems to be gremlins in the systems today!
Busy day for me (aren't they all???) DS1 to work, DS2 to physio, Me 4 MSing jobs and a visit to docs for test results (_pale_) step-kids to DH's dads for the weekend.
200 mile round trip to do 4 MS jobs but i'm being paid well and needs must! Another couple of jobs to do Sunday but can be tied in with picking the kids up .
Need a coffee then get dinner going in slow cooker for tonight (Chilli) and get the day underway properly!
Enjoy your days xClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness

Good Morning All
Will send positive thoughts your way Diva
Smokey - ouch thats expensive  I do the B Gas Boiler thing where you pay monthly - our boiler has broken down so many times that it has paid for itself many times over.
Didn't quite have the office day I planned yesterday
had to pop into Chelmsford for a couple of bits for work and ended up staying there longer than planned. I am rather taken with my squegee from Lakeland (sad I know
) and ended up buying another one so one can stay in the shower room and the other will be used for window cleaning. I did look at the window cleaners scrim as well but it was quite expensive and needed to be boiled before use and I just didnt fancy that.
Anyway I shall have to get on with office work today. Need to pop out at lunchtime to book a restaurant for my Dad's birthday meal in a few weeks. Also need to pick up a birthday card from my sons friend as he announced last night that he has a party sleepover tonight.
So nothing exciting planned, have pork kebabs for dinner tonight and will start on the meal planning for next week.
Off now to wake up the sleeping dead aka DD.

Morning all,
Diva, good luck for later, I shall be thinking of you.
Snoozer, how are you ??
esmf73, enjoy your time with your mil xx
Looks like it might rain later, I put a load of OH work clothes on the line last night, think I will risk it and leave them out, it won't matter too much if they get wet.
Work today, but at least its friday :T:T dinner tonight will be a cheese and mushroom omlette, with salad and bread and butter.
Need to put the dw on before I go, and do a wash when I get back. We have a lot of house jobs to do this weekend, we still have garden stuff stored away, so I would like to go and get that out, there is my table and chairs, and all of my pots and hanging baskets, it will make the garden feel more lived in, with my bits in it.
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning peeps
we`ve had quite a bit of rain in the night so i shall be cleaning muddy dogs later
on the upside i`ve peeked out and it seems to be a lot warmer today
I`ve not been outside properly yet as its my day off and i have a lie in intil six thirty so i`m lounging around drinking tea for a nice change and a slow start to the morning.
Plans today are to strip the bed and give the bedroom a good clean and also the bathroom too. Hoping to get all the upstairs done if poss and then this afternoon i shall sort out some more seeds to start off.
I need to pop to the shops for a few items for the garden and i fancy something salady for tea. Not had that for ages and when its cold it seems wrong somehow and DH does like his food so salad never gets a look in in the winter months. Speaking of DH i`ve found that one of my pans is missing  its a nice small stainless steel pan with a glass lid and i`ll probably wrap it around his neck when he brings it home.
I fumed for about an hour when i found out and i`ve not spoken to him yet, he has his own pans to take camping and ruin on the stove/fire not my lovely new stainless ones. Thing is he`s probably hoping that i won`t notice but i have.
Right i`m off to make a start after a quick browse, not checked my email for three days so i bet that takes some wading through
Diva - Positive thoughts for you, good luck!
Have a lovely day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Good morning everyone

I will be thinking of you Diva and hoping everything goes your way.
jc, think I had those gremlins in my system too :rotfl:safe journey today, you too esmf
Essex-girl, The squeegees are great idea
to have in the bathroom, I wouldnt be without mine as we took the bath out and put in a big walk in shower so a quick wipe over with that after a shower saves me scrubbing the water marks off later.
Im feeling a lot better than I did yesterday (good job realy as its work day today).
We will have HM bacon and lentil soup and crusty bread for tea tonight so nice and easy. DD is making a strawberry mousse at school today so something nice for pudding
Hope everyone is going to have a good day today and ((hugs)) to those who needs them.
Kind wishes and hugs xGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time

Diva, sending you really positive thoughts for later on today.
Sorry I've been MIA but a lot going on and I'm trying to cut down using the computer as time goes by so quickly when you're chatting!!!!! Hope you're all doing OK but got some hugs here if anyone wants one (((((((((( ))))))))))!
Got a lot planned to do whilst DS at pre-school; I try to do all I can in the mornings so we can have fun / go out in the afternoon. I'm feeling a bit like doing some cooking which he LOVES to do, so that may be on the cards.
Right, must go and let the chickens out and then get the kids down for breakfast - have a good day!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0
