It may be a stupid question, but are you aware that you can hire a fully insured vehicle in Orlando for £188 for two weeks from a highly reputable company (9r £94 for a week) --- nowhere even remotely close to your £300 for your insurance only.

Do you mean hire a car when you get there...We have been looking at prices in the uk and you think it's cheap till they add on the extra insurance..Is it cheaper to do it when you arrive?

We hired a car through https://www.uscarhire.co.uk booked in the uk before we travelled last year and found them very reasonable on price. I've just checked their website and for example 2 weeks in June for a economy car is £230.00 with Gold insurance (this is covers extra drivers, full tank of fuel) or £198 for silver insurance.
  • Has anyone used https://www.travel2florida.co.uk to book accomodation? I am thinking about it as I have been quoted a good price but just wanted to know if anyone has used them.

    Thanks :)

  • Hi, my husband and I have been to the States every year for the past five years but always in combination i.e this year we are doing Costa Rica for two weeks and combining it with Naples for one week. Last year we toured the American West (self drive 2500 miles), and last Christmas we did the Keys and Orlando and so on.

Anyway, my point is that we ALWAYS had a car. Driving is easy( automatic so point and go) and much safer than here (as everyone sticks to speed limits) and CHEAP. By driving we could come and go as we pleased and explore other places - yes, even in Orlando there is life beyond the theme parks i.e Winter Garden, Crystal River, St Augustine ......

Friends of ours (with two children) have tried twice now without a car, first they were in Disney and were controlled by the Mouse and all things Mouse and God forbid you might want to escape, I mean explore. It was impossible!
The second time they were on I Drive, again without the car - another disaster - totally reliant on buses and taxis and these came to much more than car hire would have and again they never saw half of what we saw when we were there ....Except for the gates of one theme park from 11.00pm until 2.00am where they had to wait for a taxi as the bus they were booked on kindly left without them!

If you want some freedom then opt for a car - try to think of it like being on holiday in the UK or at home and losing your car for two or three weeks. I know I couldn't do it.

My other top tip is to go out and buy a copy if a 'Brits guide to Orlando' we got one the first year we visited and I used it as our bible before I went and whilst we were there and it really did help.

    ho Pudding

lots of places will hire you a car from the uk (this is a reputable, good value company) for a reasonable amount of money FULLY insured.

    good hunting.

I travel to the US quite a lot both on business and for personal reasons. IME it is cheaper to rent a car from the UK as the supposedly "cheap" US rate can be easily doubled by adding in all the insurance that the car booked in the UK already includes.

The main reason for this is that a lot of the US insurance policies do seem to cover certain types of insurance for hire cars as well...

I have been to Florida before but it was many years ago, i actually stayed in a youth hostel but then moved on to IDrive. Hubbie and I would like to take my 7 year old. Next year 2008.

My main problem is i now have a new job working in a college so i can only go in school Holidays. Any advice from people who have been in various school holidays also when can you start booking for 2008.

with only three of us is it better to get a room rather than villa?

    Any advice gratefully recieved

Anyone heard of any deals in concern to Disneyworld entrance, or how much is it roughly if I just turn up at the door for two young adults.

I have a voucher for £49 pp for 2 day entry to water park sea world and busch gardens? a good deal?
