Don't know about clothing, sorry, don't forget to get your iride free leaflet cause it has discount vouchers in, I would order it about a month before I was going so the vouchers are in date (sorry if this has been mentioned already - long thread :)

Thanks. I did try to order but they are currently unable to post to non US addresses. I will follow Bobsworlduk's tip to get one though, thanks.
  • Hi,
We are going to Florida for the first time in Feb 2007 :j and I'm wondering what clothing to take. We'll be in Disney/Universal or shopping during the day and City Walk or Downtown Disney in the evening.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Thanks

What you wear clothes wise is not as important compared to wearing comfortable shoes as you will be walking your socks off ;) Make sure you have a reasonable sole on your shoes as the first time I went I wore very thin soled shoes and ended up with crippling blisters on the soles of my feet.

Not sure of the heat in February so I'll let someone who has been at that time of year answer the clothing question.

I've been twice in February. It's hot so you will need shorts and t-shirts and lots of sun cream. It gets hotter as February goes on and if you are still t here the first week in March you will notice the temperature rising. What the TV weather forecast it's very accurate and you can see your hottest days for visiting waterparks. It does cool down when the sun goes down so take a jacket/jumper and leave it in the car if you are at a park through to nighttime. In Febraury the closing time is different depending on the week & day so get a time table of all parks opening/closing times - either from the internet or from a map available in restaurants/hotel lobbies. Then you can plan your days better, especially important if you don't have hopper tickets. If you are going on the water rides in the park, do them early in the day as the sun will dry you off. If you ride after about 4pm the sun is cooler and you might still be damp and get chilly. Also when going on water rides wear flip flops not trainers. Your feet will get soaked even if you have a cape.

    Have fun.

We went in Feb. the first time we went to Florida and they had a cold snap. It was jeans a jumper weather for a few days but most of the time you can do shorts and T's. Don't pack too much stuff or you won't be able to get in all the new stuff you will buy.

If you want to go somewhere else in the evening to eat drive either way on the 192 is full of places to eat eg sizzlers, TGI friday, red lobster. Also go to Celebrations there is a great fish place on Front Street. You can also sit out by the lake on big wooden rocking chairs. Celebration was build by Disney and it's a bit like Stepford wives but nice to visit.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Thanks for the tips everyone - oooh I'm getting excited now!!!!! :j :j :j :j

I'm (hopefully) going to florida in april this year, so far, the cheapest flights are either ~£340 via virgin atlantic's sale offer thing or ~£259 going with NWA and doing a transfer at minneapolis airport to orlando with either an hour wait or a three hour wait...

as i'm forking out for me and the girlfriend, a saving of £160-£200 is a *big* thing...

but is it worth it for the extra hassle? my friends who we are meeting out there says a direct flight is the way to go, but the cheapskate in me (that saving can be used on theme parks and fun stuff!) says that a transfer is no big deal...

also, if i decide on the transfer method, should i risk the one where there's an hour gap between flights, or should i give it more time in case something happens and we end up running late? if i book the 1 hour gap, and it *does* overrun, will they transfer me to the later flight for free, or are the tickets useless? would travel insurance cover this sort of stuff?

sorry, ive just never been to the US, and i'm only used to flying to europe for long breaks. all this transfer stuff is new to me :)

(incidentally, if anyone has any other places to find cheap flights (from the nottingham area, although it looks like most flights go from london/manchester, but im open to any airport in the uk within reason.. then feel free to suggest alternatives!)

    thanks.

You'll definitely need to allow 3 hours for your transfer as you'' need to clear US Customs and reclaim your bags.

Direct is a lot more convienient, but £200 is £200, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

Hubs and I are going to Disney for a week in Sept and hopefully booking a cruise from port canaveral the following week. Our questions are relating to transportation as we dont drive when we visit America. We could catch the Disney express from the airport to our resort but we need transportationfrom the resort to the post and then a week later to the airport. Can anyone make any towncar or shuttle reccomendations? Also we need a clean, reasonabily priced hotel very close to the port for one night, pref with a shuttle service - any reccomendations?

    Many thanks

yeah, thats what i thought... i didnt think an hour to transfer would be long enough to go through cutoms, get stuff, then check in again...

thanks for your help, i need to discuss it with the OH before i go booking anything anyway :)

You can pick them up for free on the iride trolley or in most idrive hotels. That way you know they are bang up to date.

You can pick up the free newspapers and leaflets as well from the dispensers at bus stops and the side of the road for more discount vouchers for international drive, for example for steak houses, lobster houses, mini golf, various stores etc. :D
