We have been to Florida 6 times in the last few years and we have always gone through Mercury Travel. They have always looked after us and they sort everything. We went for 3 weeks in 2005 in March and it cost us about £3000 for a 3 bed villa and pool, 7 people car with plat insurance and upgraded premium economy flights with Virgin. This was for 4 people.

They guy that helped each time was Toby and if you say Amanda has recommended he will always do a good deal and normally throw in holiday insurance for free.

Poppy 17 yes you will need a car as most villas are on estates and local to disney,( 5-15 mins) lots of links to villas on other orlando threads and they have maps on to show position of villas etc I am doing a trip with 12 grand children this sept and looking myself, I have found not to go with the price shown on the sites as the villa owners are happy to discount if you ask for it.

Thanks so much for the advice

Because there are so many of us I really wanted to avoid car hire (we'll have to get some sort of minivan!) Looks like I will have to start getting used to the idea.

I can't think of any circumstance where I would got to Ameriac on holiday and not hire a car.
To do so strikes me as being extreme folly.

Its just a mixture of the expense (as we would have to get two cars or a van) and the fact that someone would have to not drink.

I know its much more practical to have a car, I was just wondering if its possible to hire a villa and use the public transport in orlando. But it looks like im going to have to bug everyone for car rental money now:o

That someone would not have to drink !!!!!! Good grief is this a trip by Alcoholics R Us ?? :D

Joking to one side and looking on the bright side, 2 x mini vans / 7 seaters between the 10-14 of you will work out at very little money each. Just make sure that you go for the Platinum Insurance option, then each car can have 3 (or 4) drivers and you can share the driving between you.

Driving in America is a much more relaxed enterprise than in Britain.

I was worried about drinking/driving when we first went to Florida. I have to tell you it is a completely different kind of holiday to any other!!

After a day at the theme parks you are too knackered to even think about going out for a drink. The kids are exhausted and just flop into bed after dinner, we then just sit around our private villa pool sipping our beer and wine from Walmart!

I took several 'going out on the town' outfits and never wore them. Just the Floirda uniform of shorts, t shirt and trianers!!

    Loved it!!

might be worth having two cars as last time we all went some wanted to go here others there with one bus is was a problem,so this time we are having a bus and car .
I expect i will babysit at night and the adults use the car , daytime we will use bus for kids etc.

We've just come back from two weeks in the US ~ we hired two cars for the two sets of adults so that we could go where we liked and didn't have to rely on everyone wanting to do the same thing.
We hired a beach house and couldn't have done anything without a car. We rented through Carjet which were cheap and easy, didn't have any problems at all :)
I agree with Patricia5 too ~ we spent our evenings watching the sun go down from the screened porch and drank beer and wine from the local supermarket.

    Have a wonderful time :)

Thanks for the great advice everyone.

Its mostly adults going with two main age groups 20-30 and 40-50.

Most of us want to be out at night going to clubs and bars - its the holiday of a lifetime for us, and no one wants to just stay in as there are no children going (only teenagers who are 17 plus) and we really want to make the most of the time there. This is probably the main reason for not wanting to hire a car.
