Isn't Vauxhall doing a "Swappage" scheme for up to three thousand pounds off? Maybe you can do a friend/family a favour by using the P reg Corsa to help them get into a new car? They can give you some of the money they saved to boost your budget.

    Hi Pincher
Nobody in the family/friends after a motor at present. The original plan was to do the scrappage deal....until my O/H proposed:o so we are saving for a wedding.

Re: scrap, how much should I expect for scrap? It it worth listing on eb ay for spares and repairs?

    google rover headgaskets
gaskets fail every 30-60k cost around £500 to replace
Disagree - more like 60-80k, and most likely never if you get the MLS gasket fitted. Obviously this only applies to the K-Series engines, the 2.5 V6 has issues (VIS specifically).

Diesels (or at least the BMW M47's) are good - clutch is a !!!!!!! if it breaks (£700 job using the "right" clutch but a lot less if you use the (identical) Freelander clutch).

Lots and lots of MG models tho so maybe you should narrow it down :p

Only the smaller 1.8 engines in the Rover 75s had problems, caused by over heating, itself caused by the engine being so woefully underpowered for such a heavy car.

I think the same engine in smaller Rover models or a larger engined 75 is fine. The 75s themselves I think are a pretty decent car, but probably not what the OP is looking for....
75 had the issue because it had a very small coolant tank - that meant that when it leaked it wasn't long before you had an instant HGF.

the 75 is another pile of rotting cheese riddled with build quality issues
plus alot of simple parts are no longer avaliable.
Loads of parts still available - Roewe (who make the 75 in China now) still make parts for it anyway and loads of "old" parts are still in warehouses.

But maybe i'm biased - I just got a 2004 80k FSH MG ZT CDTI with loads of optional extras for £3100... Best car i've ever driven by a long way and certainly better than it's competitors in that price range.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

lol guess it's a matter of opinion but to me a Getz looks and feels like an OAP Sunday Driver Special where an MG appears....not to. :rotfl:

My 2002 Focus with 45,000 miles was £3,400 just before the scrappage scheme - I would have thought scrappage would have made the used car market a little cheaper since?

Anyway, apart from a £300 alternator replacement it runs like a dream.

Do they give you money for this?
