:rotfl:Oh and the spare has got a nail in it
I hope this is a joke, because if you spend £3000 on a replacement, then it is going to end up like the Corsa in next to no time. Why exactly would you change the spark plugs if there was a smell of petrol?
We bought our last car (a 2000 X reg Mondeo for £2300) five years ago, and I check under the bonnet every week (oil, brake fluid, coolant), and we have it serviced at the correct intervals (around the £100 to £150 mark). It has approaching 100,000 miles and it is running as sweet as the day I bought it.
Look after your car, and it will reward you. Neglect it and it will die a lingering death, with things constantly going wrong.
To answer your original question, I would go for a Yaris, Corolla, Focus, Fabia, VW Bora or maybe a Mazda 6.
I would avoid all French cars, because they do not have reliable electrics, and their depreciation is shocking.0 -
Only the smaller 1.8 engines in the Rover 75s had problems, caused by over heating, itself caused by the engine being so woefully underpowered for such a heavy car.
I think the same engine in smaller Rover models or a larger engined 75 is fine. The 75s themselves I think are a pretty decent car, but probably not what the OP is looking for....
are you havin a giggle
all k series engines are crap they have a fatal design flaw that rover could'nt be bothered/afford to sort out hence overheating/head gasket failure,
the v6 and 2.0cdti engines are ok as there not made by rover
the 75 is another pile of rotting cheese riddled with build quality issues
plus alot of simple parts are no longer avaliable.
for £3k my money would be on a seat ibiza/leon if image is important
oh and best avoid the hyundai accident:)0 -

I've got a Mondeo too (mk3 1.8LX estate, feel the power) and apart from iffy rear calipers (fixed now) and the blasted alternator belt tensioner pully giving up (again fixed) it's a sound car. Mainly because it's been serviced !Skip dipper and proud....0 -

Funny thing that about the servicing isn't it? For the price of one packet of fags a week you can keep your car running and looking great.
Not too difficult is it?;)0 -

Hi there, of course it was a joke, the nail in the spare is just one of the many little things that need doing on the car. Spark plugs - no idea (I don't know much about cars) O/H suggested changing them as the car was chugging and the smell of petrol :question:0 -
Re: the servicing, no it hasn't been into a garage for a service but as O/H has done regular maintenance (oil, filter et) I figure that's as good as?
TBF, O/H has had it since it was 12mnths old and it's never had any problems until now. Can't complain really.
Anywhoo, the whole subject is redundant now as today the head gasket has gone.
Time to bid farewell to the corsa *sniff*0
