Need a car 3k budget

lol guess it's a matter of opinion but to me a Getz looks and feels like an OAP Sunday Driver Special where an MG appears....not to. :rotfl:
Most MG's that I see are usually on the back of a breakdown truck, I don't recall ever seeing a Getz on one.
I thought that you were looking for a reliable, well equipped car at sensible money/mileage, obviously not.;)0 -
We will never agree I'm sure but if I spend my 3k I would like the car to look pleasing to the eye (my eye at least).0

All the chavs have MG ZR's now.

Well, I listen to Hip Hop and have a Corsa Sport so guess I'm cast as a chav. *shrugs*0

Hi Flearoy
Well, perhaps it's not 'last legs' but I just worry it's getting on a bit and one day I will be left car-less.
Current problems:
Strong smell of petrol on the outside - O/H changed the spark plugs but still smells of petrol.
Feels a bit 'chuggy', bit rougher to drive than usual.
Got in it this morning - heating has packed up (temperature gauge is normal)
When was it last serviced? Rough driving could be down to blocked air filter, fuel filter, knackered ignition leads....
Your heating failure could be something simple, like the fan not working, or something more expensive like the heater matrix going.
Getting the spare tyre repaired will cost not a lot!
If the car dies, then just hire a car for a couple of days while you sort out a new one. Every car dies one day, so don't worry about it.
Some cars don't mangle their engines if the cambelt breaks. You should check with an expert on the consequences of a cambelt failure for your car. I would recommend getting it sorted regardless as you don't want a loss of power on the motorway.Skip dipper and proud....0 -

Fine, as I said before, it's your money, buy what you like with it.
If you buy an MG you will have plenty of time to look at it in the garage.;)
I bet it will not look so " pleasing to the eye " then.:rotfl:0 -
Only the smaller 1.8 engines in the Rover 75s had problems, caused by over heating, itself caused by the engine being so woefully underpowered for such a heavy car.Hi there thanks for the response.
google rover headgaskets
gaskets fail every 30-60k cost around £500 to replace
poorly designed cars completely outclassed by all its mainstream rivals.
i would rather have a focus withh 100k on the clock than a rover with 20k
I think the same engine in smaller Rover models or a larger engined 75 is fine. The 75s themselves I think are a pretty decent car, but probably not what the OP is looking for....0 -

Thanks - good advice there. Food for thought. :beer:0 -
It hasn't had a service for a few years...0

Ah. No wonder it drives a bit rough!
When was it last MOTd? The advisory list, if present, would be an indicator of how bad it is.
FYI, My local garage charged me about £140 to service my car, which included, oil change, engine flush, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug check (didn't need changing) and a comprehensive list of checks. I have this done every year. Sometimes, a bit of extra work is needed, like changing the brake fluid or the coolant, or even gearbox oil, but this sort of work at 'back street' garages is not too expensive. Buying a new car is! Put a fiver a week away and you should cover the MOT and service of a car if it's taken care of.
In this economic climate (sorry to use that phrase) I'd rather have £3000 in the bank and an old car than nowt in the bank and a newer one.Skip dipper and proud....0
