    Debt-free and Proud!
I always declutter. On a Sunday evening i gather everything and whizz round with black bags ready for the binmen on a Monday morning.

We are moving in 2 weeks and have been packing and i have had literally 5 trips to the tip, about 10 bags for dustbin men this morning and have a shed full of stuff to boot sale!! How?? I declutter every week and am quite ocd about clutter too lol!

It is quite impossible to be free from clutter but keeping it down once its gone is the way to go! Also i didnt even know where half the stuff was hidden all these years, it is amazing how it accumilates x

I've always been a bit of a hoarder and tend to procrastinate and OH is no better. We've definitely got worse since having children as we never have the time or energy to have a proper clearout. It would help if we had someone to take the kids for a day. But we've been trying to get on top of things as the house seemed to be getting messier by the day.

They do have a lot of toys but I find these easier to deal with than our own clutter, we have a lot of Ikea Trofast storage which is great for toys. We've been sorting them into
    jigsaws
soft toys(don't know why we have so many of these)
    dressing up stuff
    dolls and accessories
    craft stuff, Playdoh,paints etc.
    Duplo and Megabloks
    Shape sorter, toy phone etc
    Happyland

Not sure how best to store books, they are just in a basket which makes it hard to get at them.

Also made some progress in the kitchen at the weekend, lots of stuff on the table and the worktops got sorted.

Are they children's books? a slim book display case can fit behind a door, so it takes up no extra space in your room because you wouldn't have put anything behind that door anyway.

they are expensive, probably more than £100 with delivery, but worth it for the space it frees up if your kids are book mad.

I've mentioned it twice in this thread - I have nothing to do with the company, honest :rotfl: Maybe one of those hanging storage pocket things would do a similar job?

well, the top of the fridge is no longer a dumping ground (although it has plastic boxes of paints and stuff dumped on it, but that's organised so it doesn't count!!) and my husband has forged ahead and removed another of my clutter zones - the 2 seater in our sitting room! I fill it with stuff then don't sort it out for weeks, and sit on the edge of the sofa and I squash strawberry plants I bought a fortnight ago etc ...

the sofa was broken and ripped anyway, so he chucked it and bought a 1-seater chair from the second hand shop in our street. Now, if I fill it with clutter I have nowhere to sit, because there are 4 of us in the house. The coffee table fits the other way around now which gives us a bit more space for moving about and playing wii, and it means I don't have the 'behind the coffee table' space to fill with junk too!

woohoo! we finally found a way my husband can help with my clutter problem without upsetting me, he plans to simply remove my dumping grounds one by one!

no real decluttering today as it is my birthday :).However I've put all rubbish in the recycling, presents on the table to think about where to put them and am going to plant bulbs tomorrow to declutter my kitchen :)
Every day above ground is a good one ;)

One of those would be ideal, pity they're so expensive. A hanging storage pocket thing is a very good idea.

Can I borrow your OH please? :D
  • Well, I've made a start on the glory-hole/downstairs storage room at last mainly prompted by my ex-neighbour sending her new bloke round tomorrow to collect it all. Everything had to come out and be checked because I didn't dream for a moment that he would be able to identify what was hers on his own. Now, it's all piled up by the front door, ready to be collected. All nine cardboard cartons of it.

I've been to the skip and taken out LOADS AND LOADS of crud. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I've also found one or two treasures: a sewing-machine and a food processor neither of which I remember having in the first place. There's a box of clothes in there which belonged to my old flat-mate and I was going to turn the whole lot out but the first thing I looked at was an extremely pretty dress from Monsoon, so I've left it all there to be examined more closely and what's decent will be laundered and put on ebay. I found a pair of very sexy, vintage Terry de Havilland party-shoes in mint condition I don't remember seeing since the mid-80s. Such a pity they don't fit any more. They're going on ebay too if I cant find a dealer to flog them to.

Once that's done, I'm going to start on the kitchen and sort out some sensible storage. Anyone know where I can source an instruction manual/user-guide for a Moulinex Moulinette 320?
