I've decided I'm going with the self-storage idea - I'll let you all know how it goes.

Now I need to blag some boxes from somewhere...

I have another bag for the charity shop and some more stuff to list on Ebay but it will all end by Sunday at the latest - after that it will be off to the charity shop or the site I mentioned for CDs etc.

    I've got some watchers so that's a good sign - I hope!

    So, today, it's:

[STRIKE]Local shops to seek out boxes[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Rent a storage unit (and get a padlock for the door as you have to provide your own)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Start shifting stuff already packed up[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Start packing up kitchen stuff - some of it will need a good scrub too
Meet friends for lunch in between[/STRIKE] :D

Good luck to you all with whatever you have planned today. :j

Is anyone brave enough to post before and afters?

I'm not sure I am but I think I may take photos to remind me how it was - is anyone else recording their achievements? I think it may be helpful when motivation starts to wane...

ETA: I'm very pleased to say I've managed all that today - DDs and I have just shifted four carloads of stuff to the self-storage unit (very small car!) I have to stop for a day now though as I have an essay due in. :)

    Back to it Thursday!

No not brave to post before and afters.

Had nightmares last night that kept me awake half the night, whilst the dog was kicking me in his sleep.

so awake late, feel shattered, not sure what i will get done today.

Have appointment at hospital with neurology, must remember whilst i am out that i need coffee.

had a teeny de clutter in the kitchen, doesn't need much of one, but my water purfier got chucked, the lime scale broke the lid and its a bit dusty and neglected so it was time to go.

Tablets and medicines etc that have been left on the side, back in the cupboard.

The lovely weather hopefully will perk me up soon, but in the mean time a nice soak in the bath before my appointment.

Hope your appt went well, mupette, and you sleep better tonight.

Talking of meds, I sorted mine last week and have started using a weekly pill dispenser - I find it much easier as I had got into a bit of a muddle with them - don't know why I've not done it before!

    Oh well what an appointment.
Finally its taken 5/6 years. I was confirmed that I have MS, met my ms nurse, what a lovely lady.

So finally some progress to getting me to manage it.

Not going to de clutter today, i think i need the afternoon off to let things sink in

Well I haven't decluttered today as I have been resting my leg, as advised by the hospital. But..... I can now put my foot down on the floor :D. Yesterday, I couldn't straighten my leg properly and this morning I still couldn't put any weight on it, so a great improvement. I'm going to tackle a bit of decluttering later on, after tea.

    Hi Jeff

My Mum has OCD in such a big way, everything in her house is perfect, it's always clean and lovely, but I remember a lot of my childhood she was away cleaning or tidying.

My house is ok, my bedroom is a bit of a tip, but no one ever sees that ! If someone is coming round I will make an effort and tidy up, I did totally obsess about it and worry about it all the time, but now I would rather be out having fun with my girls.

My Dad always says to me you never remember how tidy the house was, what colour of carpet you had when you were a child, you remember all the fun happy days out, memories you made, things you did. Well I do :) that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Plus - houses will be here when we aren't ;)

happy birthday crutches - may this coming year be the year you get rid of the clutter:D.

    Bitterand twisted - now a woman on a mission:rotfl::T
Mupette - really sorry to hear about your diagnosis: I image this wasn't a total suprise to you, but still, taking time out to take it in is wise. I appreciate it is all the more important down to have a plan to declutter and make 'keeping house as physically as easy as possible.
1st timer -I think it is very hard when it is someones elses clutter who won't deal with it.

Best spud - great stuff - this is a good decision I am sure. And you will so get you to the space, I think when you start bring stuff back you will want to get rid of even more.

I think you shoud take 'before photos' for yourself and then if you want to at the end you can post them or not.

I'm going to be good, I'm de cluttering the landing today, not much there but for my landing walls to be painted i need to move 2 boxes or records and a pile of towels.

then look at the living room again and fall down and cry.. (*Joke)
I made a start the other day, the Wii got packed up, I have a plastic tub for all computer bits to live in rather than a few bits here and there.

What's everyone else up to today.

  • I'm going to buy a couple of small brackets from a hardware shop I'll be passing to put up an old set of shelves on the wall that will take my cookery books and I'd like to weed the book shelf behind the settee - lots of 'big' books I never really look at.
Whether I'll get this done...we'll see.

Can I confess I've been deliberately avoiding this thread?:o Because I knew I'd probably have meltdown as I assumed everyone else in the world had really neat houses:D

We moved last June and there's STILL stuff that needs unpacking in the garage... It's taken me some time to work this out but I have realised the main reason we have clutter in every room is because we lack storage. We moved from a tiny two-bed terrace with only a small living room to a three-bed semi with living room, dining room, conservatory, hallway and downstairs bathroom (and garage.) Because we couldn't fit much by way of furniture in our old living room, we just didn't buy any. So now we're here, there's what seems like acres more space - but nowwhere to properly store things.

Our DVDs and CDs are in an old drawer in the conservatory, that's how bad we are:o

I'd love to go through all our things and be ruthless but my energy and time are lacking at the mo. My plan is to deal with a room at a time, and so my main priority is DDs' room. DDs need new drawers and some kind of bookcase although I may keep their books downstairs as I need to get a bookcase for the living room anyway and it'll free up room in their room.

So I hereby declare my plan for the week is to purchase bargainous chests of drawers.
