Hiya - just been reading on the website about the Moneymaker they are doing on the new Fergie Outspoken perfume.

Can anybody advise how this works? I understand that I buy certain number (or more) of the product set at a reduced price, and then sell them on to my customers as a set.

If I don't sell them, can I send them back for refund? Are the timescales shorter for returns on moneymakers?

There is a suggested selling price (ie buy for £9, sell for £14). Do I have to stick to that, or if I want to can I sell for £12.50 and make less individual profit but hopefully more overall (ie the above would give me £5 profit per item, but if I sell 6 sets at £12 it gives me the same profit and I might have more chance)? How would Avon know what I was selling them for??

Is the suggested selling price cheaper than they would be able to buy it in the book?

I am thinking about buying some samples, sticking them to a flyer which outlines the offer, and then giving that to my customers with the book.

If I sell more than I buy on moneymaker, and it is more expensive in the book then I'll lose out.

    Thanks everyone x

We will see what the HMIR man says next week. But by registering as self employed. You get to offset all of your 'business' expenses against your profits. I had a bumper C7 so I now have a bumper new wifi printer:j for my 'avon' business. Dont forget your fuel, car servicing, business clothes, electricity, business cards, advertising etc.
I hadn't thought about fuel. Part of my territory is a short drive away. I assume if I keep records of my mileage I could put it against my profits at a rate of 40p per mile (HMRC rate for business miles) which obviously includes an allowance for servicing, etc.
    C5 £202 :); C6£541 :j; C7 £502; C8 £379; C9 £379

Yes thats right - mileage includes servicing, wear and tear etc. You can't usually claim business clothing though lucyclare. I was a bookkeeper before training to be a midwife so if you need any advice give me a shout :) .

Oh, I thought that if I needed clothes specifically for work, that I could claim them back. Not to worry, Ive not been out and bought new suits, just new black pants and a smart top.

But I can bill my mobile phone against my profits as I use it for Avon and personal use. Contribution towards electricity at home? New printer for Avon stuff (old one just not up to the job)

have you put a request in through the Avon website? Then it could be a while before you hear anything.

What are the first 3 letters of your postcode? There might be an SL on here who covers your area.

remember if you claim business use for your car, you need to tell your car insurance that your using it for business too!

also remember your home contents insurance too.. from looking around most insurance only covers secretarial business use of the home, but we have stock and cash in the house therefore we need to tell them that otherwise you wont be covered i guess as you havent informed them of the proper business use of your home.

better to be safe than sorry!

Oh and im registered self employed with HMRC... its actually in your paperwork when you sign up that you must do this.... even if you make a loss your still running a business and therefore need to tell them your self employed! I only earnt £598 profit last tax year but still had to fill out a self assessment. Worked in my favour as that was my ONLY taxable income all year.. and so im getting a rebate of £6.25 of the the tax id paid on my savings interest. lol :) Oh and i claim WTC as self employed doing 16+ hours a week too.. which without i wouldnt be able to survive.

just on my way out for my 2nd of 3 delivery nights.. really cant be bothered this week as been ill! Made loads of mistakes and utterly fed up.

Need to find some cash from somewhere too as my ex has been out of work for past couple of weeks so im not getting a penny in matinence or any of the the money he owes me for his debts im paying! Toying with returning all my stock :( Will lose me in sales figures and set me right back on achieving silver presidents club but i need the money as its my little ones 2nd birthday in 2 weeks and looks like IM paying for everthing again! :(

feeeeeed up!!!!! but MUST put on a big fake avon smile and go try deliver my 25 orders of the night *rolls eyes*

Avon will tell you when you sign up, that you should register as self employed with the Inland Revenue, hence the details on the first page.

What I would say is that the rules about what you can and cannot claim change from year to year as I found out when I attended the course last year! Things I used to claim for my DH, he is self employed, we can no longer claim. So rather than think you know what you can claim, better to attend one of their free workshops!

No, you cannot claim for buying shoes or clothes especially for wearing when doing Avon deliveries, UNLESS they are specifically Avon branded items that you cannot wear everyday for normal wear, ie an Avon branded tshirt or jacket.

You cannot claim for a pair of shoes that you only wear for doing avon deliveries. Yes you have to tell your home insurance that you are stocking Avon goods, cash, etc. I told mine and it didn't affect my premiums. If you use your car for Avon, you need to tell your insurance company especially if you want to claim for it on your tax returns.

I remember this lady told us last year she had a phone line installed only for her business, and that is all she used it for, not even personal calls. The IR told her she couldn't claim the installation of the phone line even though she only used it for business.

I don't have a rotten ex but know what it is like when money is extremely tight. Shame you are going to have to lose the chance of silver pc because of ex. Any chance you could sell something instead of returning stock, ie sell the avon stuff on ebay or something ?Or do you have something at home to sell? ie boys's old clothes?

it's too late to say try things like surveys and daily clicks as you won't be able to raise the money in time.

    Good luck hun x
