I must ask my bank for a statement showing my address. Unfortunately they charge for that. She was surprised that I did all my banking online!!
I am going to send two proofs from the longer, first list with a covering letter explaining why I do not have bank statements and will report back here with the outcome.
I was told the same when I tried to open a Tesco Clubcard Plus Account. Had to get my wife (who had paper statements) to open it in her name. The advice over the phone is no alternatives and have to get a letter from the bank, which obviously you have to pay for (I did cheekily ask if they would pay for this!).
I think the problem is that they are NOT a Bank and simply abide to the letter by what they are asked for by the Bank they provide the financial services through (I think it is Royal Bank of Scotland)(HBOS do Sainsburys Financial Services - also Amazon, one of the reasons why I couldn't get an Amazon Credit Card when I had a Halifax one already!). Anyway, they can't be as flexible as they are going through a third party.
Would be helpful if someone from the Money Saving Expert team :money: put this problem to Tesco's, as they normally are extremely good with their customer service in store. We are after all are chomping at the bit to take out their products!
PS - Sue - as you haven't posted again, I presume it didn't work?0 -

It worked! I have just received a letter from Tesco saying that my account has been opened. I hope they have updated their call centre staff on this.0 -
greenstreetprince wrote:You can apply online people, yes you need a print out and stuff but on the form it does say you can apply online, also when proceeding with online application (leave blank the bit where it says 'enter deal code') it asks for your clubcard number.
also for the person who's bank charges for sending out statements, BOOOOOO!! what a RIP, i bank online with First Direct, have my statements sent by post, lost some a while ago, and needed replacements, yet they never charged a penny. thats service!
Not a rip. I chose an account that did not send paper statements because I do not need lots of wasteful paper. I download statements and keep them on my memory stick. I can access them anytime online- better than your bank I think.0 -
I bank online alliance and leicester and get paper statements too at no cost.

When I rang on Monday to request the opening packs I asked if we could have one each and was assured that was fine, seems not to be though.
Vroomfondel - 1000 points paid for a weeks parking near Mancester airport worth £40 I dont think thats such a bad return.
There was no mention of this with my paperwork, which arrived early this week. I spoke to an advisor and asked if my husband could open an account and also get the points and was told this would be ok. I am going to open another account in the OH's name and see what happens.0 -
I received confirmation that my account was open today!0
