I had the same issue when I opened a Cahoot savings account (to get £20 from Quidco). I didn't send anything off and they closed my account. Still got the £20 from Quidco though! :j0 -

sue.b or sooler (or someone)
Can someone please send me or advise on this message thread the details of what identity documents are needed for this? And do original documents have to be posted off to them, or certified copies (if so by whom) posted off to them, or what?
I always have problems with this sort of thing, varying from the narrow list of people financial institutions say can certify copies if they do it that way, and the on-line bank statements as mentioned earlier, which NEVER have an address on so can never be used as ID!Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

You need 2 proofs of identity!
First Proof Of Identity
One of the following showing your full name and address and dated within the last 6 months, Electricity bill, Gas bill, Water bill, credit card statement or Phone bill (not mobile).
OR
One of the following showing your full name and address and dated within the last 12 months, Original TV license, Council Tax document, Original Home/Car Insurance Policy Certificate (quotations and other associated documents cannot be accepted) or Original Inland Revenue Tax notification.
Second Proof Of Identity
Showing your full name and address and dated within the last 6 months, Original bank statement or Original Building Society Statement.anniecave wrote:And do original documents have to be posted off to them, or certified copies (if so by whom) posted off to them, or what?
Original documents have to be sent, although they do not have to be certified.

Hi
When I rang to ask about the issue of online banking I was told (albeit sheepishly) that it would be alright to make a note of it and send any two other proofs of address/ ID from list 1.
Any definitive answers??0 -

I would think that makes sense. The proof of ID is all about trying to prove you genuinely live at the address given and that you have given the correct name. The first set of proofs of ID are "stronger" than the second set.
For most of the first set (apart from credit card) you would HAVE to live at the address to have the documentation, for the second set you wouldn't, so for example you could just be using the address as a correspondance address.
So what it's all about is trying to avoid you just giving two items from set two.
I run into this because I live at one address, and use my parents address for a lot of things (because the mail delivery is unreliable where I live). But I'm OK on this as I have credit cards at both addresses, a savings account at my parents address and my current account at where I live, with paper statements for all. So I can normally prove what people are asking.
I'd recommend getting a savings account that sends you regular paper statements, for example the Halifax Websaver (statements every 6 months), then you've always got proof of ID.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
sue.b wrote:I have just rung Tesco about providing bank statements. I bank online and prints of the statement do not show my address. The woman I spoke to said there are no alternatives. I must ask my bank for a statement showing my address. Unfortunately they charge for that. She was surprised that I did all my banking online!!
I am going to send two proofs from the longer, first list with a covering letter explaining why I do not have bank statements and will report back here with the outcome.
I encountered this problem in a different situation. I explained no actual paper statements and sent a recent letter from the bank, showing my name and address, and attached a fully cancelled blank cheque from my cheque-book. It was accepted as enough, and both items were eventually sent back to me.

I sent my paper work off a while ago, about a week and a half, have not heard anything, has anyone else had any info yet.0
