I opened an account and the cheque for £1000 cleared on the 19th of September. All of the paperwork has gone through but nowhere is the 1000 clubcard points offer mentioned. Did the offer only apply to certain parts of the UK? I didn't find a leaflet at my local Tescos.

Make sure the account was actually opened by the 20th or you won't get the points.

I think the points show on the next clubcard mailing... ie November????

In theory we should be able to close the account from tomorrow onwards, but I think I'll wait until the points are added first. Rather than wait for the November statement, I'll check online as thats normally quite up to date. I also assume they will be updated on the mini-balance on the till receipts when you shop instore

And has everybody remembered to take it out again to an account with a better interest rate?

Does anyone know whether it is possible to withdraw the money again online, or do I need to phone up? I can't see any way online to do it, but I might be missing something?

Have you actually registered for on-line banking? I initially thought I had, but it turned out that I'd done it only for telephone banking. I had to go through another rigmarole to get on-line access.

If you are emptying your account, it's not really worth registering now because it takes quite a while. You make your request by phone, then they post you an authorisation to sign, you send it back and then they post you a registration number, etc. etc.

If you phone up, they will make the transfer for you. If you try to transfer the whole amount, they will say that if you are closing your account you can only be sent a cheque. That made things too slow (how long before they send it out, then a couple of days in the post, into my bank, and then three or four days clearing?).

If you want to do it by phone, I suggest you transfer all but £1 to your non-Tesco account, and then next week ask for the account to be closed and the cheque for £1 sending to you. I wouldn't mind waiting a week or so for only £1.

Anyone got the points yet? Keep checking my online clubcard account to see if they are - will let you know as soon as they appear.

The points won't appear online yet. I remember the leaflet says it'll appear on your November statement, and so I can only imagine around then. Just wait a bit longer.

I have just spoken to TPF and been assured that as the £1000 was in the account on 30 September, it is ok to move it out now. The gentleman I spoke with told me he had seen a copy of the leaflet and that all staff members were aware that the cut-off date was 30 September. I have moved my money to my Abbey esaver. I will be calling back at the end of the month to make sure I get my points.

I just called to close my account (hopefully I will get the points) it took me two minutes. Went through the security questions on the phone banking, told her I wanted to close and said she will send a cheque.

    Seemed too easy!
