Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing!!
I'm getting married on Fri 15th April..... had to do it on a Friday so I don't miss any football at the weekend!!
I went and had a look at a venue yesterday with my Maid of Honour and fell in love!! Booked it there and then so now it feels like its really happening!!
I read a lot of you have been looking at/found your dress already.... I want to lose a couple of stone for the big day so want to leave shopping for my dress til as late as poss.... how late do you think I can leave it??
Welcome snoopy and congrats.
As for your dress im in the same boat, ive lost a stone already and hope to lose at least another 2
I was going to wait until Oct to start looking but the dress shop staff have all reassured me (no matter which shop ive been in) that the alterations would be no prob and im better off gettintg started on the looking.
Hope this helps? x:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

I need to do that too, how do you do it exactly? I keep getting confused
We gave notice last week. You book and appointment with your local Registry office, then you have to take passports/birth certs/utility bill with both names on/devree absolute if applicable. It takes about half hour, and they just ask questions like date of birth, where you live work etc, fathers name/address. You both have to answer the questions for both of you independently but it is painless! I think it cost £40 each to do it but I can't remember cos OH paid
We're getting married on the 8th, and we've booked the venue/photographer/video/honeymoon and paid deposits, I've ordered my dress and paid the deposit, I designed our wedding stationery on Vistaprint (used notecards, and did opening ones for the main invites, and double sided note cards for the evening invites). 50 day and 30 evening was £50 which I didn't think was too bad. Got £5 Quidco too and free postage. We were going to make our own but it was £40 just for the card, inserts and envelopes! We are going to buy some gem flowers in our colour scheme to customise the invites slightly so they don't look like basic Vistaprint offerings lol
Looking for shoes now0 -
It might depend on where you are, but in Milton Keynes it costs £33.50 per person (daylight robbery if you ask me!) - so long as addresses are correct we were told to bring birth certificate, passport and driving licence... so cue a mad hunt to try and find OH's birth cert this weekend.
Like Happy Girl says, you make an appointment to give notice at your local Registry Office (the council you pay your council tax to), regardless of where you're getting married. Our venue is under Aylesbury Vale District Council so I'm told they will then contact us about booking a registrar (though I've already phoned them to make a provisional booking for the time we want).
Not sure about other areas, but in MK there was a 7 week wait to get an appointment to give notice
HTH, and off to see the venue now eeeeeeeee!!!!!xx

Im off again dress shopping this weekend. Im finding it easier to quickly discount some now and pick ones i like.
Is it true that you just know? Ive found a few I love but not sure if thats 'the' feeling? x
It's so difficult to know I think. I'm not convinced that there is just "The One" - I found 2 that I loved, absolutely loved, and 4 or 5 that I was really happy with. In the end the one I chose had an element of pragmatism to it - it was cheaper by £80 compared to the other one I really loved, it had a lace-up back so easier to adjust on the day and the detachable train is just genius. But I could have been happy in any of 3 or 4 dresses, no question.
I think it can put a bit too much pressure on, in a way, to find "The One". There is an element of finding "the perfect dress" to it, in that you know you like a dress when you don't want to take it off & keep staring at yourself in the mirror (do try it with the accessories as well - tiara, veil etc, it can really make the difference)! But I do think that, unlike the groom, there can be more than one dress that you love.
Also, when you do go, my advice would be to just take 1 or 2 others with you. I took 4 people on my big wedding dress shopping day and while I love them all dearly, it confused me so much I ended up in tears in one shop, just because they all had different opinions, and I was really confused and overwhelmed!
Anyway, hope that helps & enjoy the rest of your dress shopping0 -
Seeing the venue all properly set up for a wedding on Saturday made me fall in love with it all over again. They've now got a swanky seating area so the oldies can escape the music if it gets too much and the marquee is massive (so much so that I'm thinking about how to best fill the space... any ideas?)
Giving notice was painless but I was so nervous! We were panicking beforehand as we only managed to get hold of the short form of OH's birth certificate but they do accept that so long as you take your passport. But the first thing they do is check your venue has a valid marriage licence... and ours had run out on 25th April!!! Then cue a long phonecall only to find out they just haven't updated the computer system (phew!) Kinda wished we could have given notice together as they asked questions about father's name/occupation and mine died when I was 5 so got a bit teary (especially as I'd not long read the father/daughter dance thread on here). Took about 40 mins in total and now just have the 15 days to sit and hope no-one objects before going to pick up the certificate.
Anyone else have any updates to report? xx:heartpuls Married the Man of my Dreams on Friday 8th April 2011 :heartpuls:female: Little Lady Due Friday 8th July 2016 :female:0 -
Weeeelllll Ive found my dress!
And booked the florist and foend a hair and make up artist/stylist!
Also just spoken to Travel Counsellors and they are pricing up our honeymoon!
Sorry to hear about your sad time Jemma, must have bought up a lot of memories reading the father/daughter dance thread then that at the licence people. My dad is terminally ill so can imagine how emotional you are. HUGS xx
Im meeting the vicar tonight to book wedding time and discuss legalities etc then I need to apply for licence too.
Where is your venue? My OH knows Milton Keynes well as his HO is there:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

Awww thanks Mrs Moore To Be... I'm still planning to have the father/daughter dance (Luther Vandross works in this case!) but with my mum or cousin who (hopefully when I ask him!) will be doing the father of the bride speech as my mum hates talking in front of people. Sorry to hear about your dads terminal illness... I really hope he makes it to see you walk down the aisle on your big day
Exciting!!! I love hearing everyone's progress! How did it all go with the vicar? And what is your dress like (or does your OH frequent these boards... mine does so I can't say too much about my dress).
Our venue is Silverstone Golf Club, right opposite the circuit so I'm praying they don't announce any races for that weekend. Looked at places in MK but they were either really run down or too expensive
What time are you all getting married? Family have been arguing with us but think we've finally settled on 1pm... late enough for me to get ready and family travelling from up North to get there but early enough to make sure people actually want buffet food after having a massive carvery for lunch! xx:heartpuls Married the Man of my Dreams on Friday 8th April 2011 :heartpuls:female: Little Lady Due Friday 8th July 2016 :female:0 -
Ahh that will be nice with your mum/cousin. Im thinking of having 'I loved her first' by Heratland as the father/daughter dance. I dont advise you youtube it as it has me in floods!
Went great with the vicar, we were with his for 2 hours! He went through the whole service with us, vows and all, I thought he had married us there and then! :rotfl::rotfl:
I know your venue, fingers crossed for no racing that day then!
We have gone for 12.30pm for wedding. Its hard to know the timings, I would like a gap before the eveing but not too much of one... arghhhh also dont want it to be rushed. no pleasing me!
Anyone with anymore news? xx:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

:wave:Thanks for the welcome!!
I'm starting to feel like I am really getting married now..... got the venue booked, going to register our intent to marry at the town hall on Monday AND think I've found someone amazing who will make the dress of my dreams for me!!
Just been looking at bridesmaids dresses..... would really prefer them all (3 adults) to wear the same dress, but they vary hugely in size..... has anyone else had this and know of anywhere we can go that will cater for them..... smallest size 10 largest size 22/24.
Loving hearing everyones plans so far.... and not worrying that I've got nothing done now!!♥.0
