    I'm really struggling with readings. We are having a humanist ceremony and I'm looking for something a bit different....just don't know what!

    Aw - our pooch is a boarder collie too! a big softy but very lovable... sorry no pics to hand.

    Our hymns are in order: All things bright and beautiful/morning has broken/lord of the dance. We wanted three but you only need two. You also only need the religious reading for the marrige to be legal. We havent chosen this but will prob go with one of the popular ones (1 Corithians 13 or the song of soloman). I also want WB Yeates 'he wishes for the cloths of heaven' but my vicar may not allow it as he is very strict about relevant readings - have yet to ask. Failing that will have good old shakespeare...

    check out the church service wedding planner. Its actually very good and will generate and OOS for you (although will need lots of editing).

    forgot tosay I am pinning up this at the reception venue. I thought it a bit too twee for the church service but love dinosaurs...

    A Lovely Love Story ~ by Edward Monkton ~

    The fierce Dinosaur was trapped inside his cage of ice. Although it was cold he was happy in there. It was, after all, HIS cage.

    Then along came the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

    The Lovely Other Dinosaur melted the Dinosaur's cage with kind words and loving thoughts.

    I like this Dionsaur, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur. Although he is fierce he is also tender and he is funny. He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now.

    I like this Lovely Other Dinosaur, thought the Dinosaur. She is beautiful and she is different and she smells so nice. She is also a free spirit which is a quality I much admire in a dinosaur.

    But he can be so distant and so peculiar at times, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur.

    He is also overly fond of Things. Are all Dinosaurs so overly fond of Things?

    But her mind skips from here to there so quickly, thought the Dinosaur. She is also uncommonly keen on Shopping. Are all Lovely Other Dinosaurs so uncommonly keen on shopping?

    I will forgive his peculiarity and his concern for Things, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur. For they are part of what makes him a richly charactered individual.

    I will forgive her skipping mind and her fondness for shopping, thought the Dinosaur. For she fills our life with beautiful thought and wonderful surprises. Besides, I am not unkeen on shopping either.

    Now the Dinosaur and the Lovely Other Dinosaur are old. Look at them.

    Together they stand on the hill telling each other stories and feeling the warmth of the sun on their backs.

    And that, my frends, is how it is with love. Let us all be Dinosaurs and Lovely Other Dinosaurs together.

    For the sun is warm. And the world is a beautiful place.

    I love the dinosaur story, I was thinking of that for the non-religious reading. Another one I like is this:
    Tin Wedding Whistle:
    Though you know it anyhow
    Listen to me, darling, now,
    Proving what I need not prove
    How I know I love you, love.
    Near and far, near and far,
    I am happy where you are;
    Likewise I have never larnt
    How to be it where you aren't.
    Far and wide, far and wide,
    I can walk with you beside;
    Furthermore, I tell you what,
    I sit and sulk where you are not.
    Visitors remark my frown
    Where you're upstairs and I am down,
    Yes, and I'm afraid I pout
    When I'm indoors and you are out;
    But how contentedly I view
    Any room containing you.
    In fact I care not where you be,
    Just as long as it's with me.
    In all your absences I glimpse
    Fire and flood and trolls and imps.
    Is your train a minute slothful?
    I goad the stationmaster wrothful.
    When with friends to bridge you drive
    I never know if you're alive,
    And when you linger late in shops
    I long to telephone the cops.
    Yet how worth the waiting for,
    To see you coming through the door.
    Somehow, I can be complacent
    Never but with you adjacent.
    Near and far, near and far,
    I am happy where you are;
    Likewise I have never larnt
    How to be it where you aren't.
    Then grudge me not my fond endeavor,
    To hold you in my sight forever;
    Let none, not even you, disparage
    Such valid reason for a marriage.

    Hi Everyone,
    Hope you dont mind me joining in as I am to be married March 5th not April ,no seperate forum for march brides :-(. For me thats less than 8 weeks to go.
    I live in Shropshire and I was lucky enough to find my dream dress which is Alfred Angelo at a shop called simply brides at a really cool price (this is a barnados that stock ex display and end of line dresses). I also hand made the invites and sent them out this week, cost us approx £50 and I got all material from ebay, the only thing I am struggling with now is a design for our cake as I am not sure what to do, we are having 3 no square fruit cakes made but as yet do not have a stand and i am not sure if these can just be stacked on top of each other!! I have loved reading your stories on this thread and couldnt help but join in as I am soooo excited x

    Welcome Terri! Your always welcome on this thread :D

    squee! well done for getting the invites out Mrs Moore2B.

    I just got a call from my mum to say her invite arrived safely in rural Norfolk this morning. Weird as I had posted them all second class in Oxford yesterday. Just goes to show its not worth paying first class I guess...

    Have had our first RSVP, a letter. Hoping for more cards!
  • how exciting aarchk.
    Im gonna miss out on the different RSVP's. We have put the menu choice on the back of ours with selection part and also a song request on the front so there will be no cards as guests will fill in those.

    Evening ones im hoping for some nice cards though!

    I forget your in Oxford! So close to me! x
