    Hi MagicBoo,

Why don't you look into bacon butties or fish and chips?? We are having bacon butties which are £5.50 per head so have saved quite a bit on the evening food, which is good as the day food is costing a small fortune!!!!
Thank you Janie, it's a good idea, but we're catering for approx 150 in the evening, which works out at £5/head, I just assumed it would cost about £300 total! :( Am going to phone other companies today to see if I can get a better price and going to phone the caterers to see what is costing so much. I have a feeling the canapes might be costing quite a bit so might change to a starter to see if that's cheaper. x

we saved a bundle by dropping canapes for crisps and nuts for our drinks reception. Our wedding is 2pm and we are eating at 5.30 so we have assumed people can manage without food for a few hours. We also are doing cheese board in the evening to save money.

A hog roast is a good idea but it is now often used as the main meal rather than the evening buffet. Are they just doing the hog roast in baps with apple sauce or are there accompaniments? loose the extras and it may bring the cost down. Hog roasts are quite expensive when done properly so it could be you drop the hog roast for a cheaper option.

I think £27 per head for the main meal is quite good. We have gone for cheaper options to keep costs down and paying £26 perhead for crisp and nuts on arrival, choice of Fish/Veggie kebabs, chargrilled steak (thin ones) and garlic chicken with hot green veg, rosemary boiled potatoes, salad and choice of profiteroles or eton mess for pud. Served hot buffet style with evening cheeseboard including breads, biscuits, cheeses and pate. The wedding cake will be added to the evening buffet.

My bunting is all mixed colours but then it is being made by my mum from duvet covers and tablecloths from charity shops... I love your ideas magiboo - I think it will work!

Nice to have a chap on this thread!

oooh Bunting, where are you putting that??

I am now panicing BIG time as haven't got the invites out yet! We only set our date not that long before Christmas so not giving ourselves that much time but crikey.

On the radio yesterday the DJ was like "just think folks only 110 sleeps till the Royal Wedding!" which means 109 sleeps till ours!!! Think its started to hit home for my OH too now :p

Having major dress wobbles still not got that sorted, I so need to pull my finger out and get stuff done!! My job today will be to make a list of all jobs we need to get done - should be fun.....

Becks-we have a marquee, so the bunting is going to around the edge of the marquee (inside) and then there will be 2 crosses over the ceiling and 2 balls of flower things hanging down from the centre of the crosses. Also, our wedding is on the 30th and our invites are going out at the end of Jan.
Thank you for the food suggestions aarchk, I'm now thinking I could rope in a few favours and ask friends & family to make a tray of cupcakes each and serve them with the welcome drinks and scrap the canapes like you did. Any left over cakes can be put out in the evening again. Our wedding is at 1.30, so people will have had lunch, but I know from experience how people sometimes get carried away with the drink before the meal and are drunk before they even sit down so want to provide something to soak it up! The hog roast is just baps, nothing else, I can't believe how much is it, I think we might look at the cheese board option-it sounds cheaper and the H2b would love it!
    oh decisions, decisions!!

wba31 thanks for that, just spent all lunch looking at invite designs - did you have much to do with the choosing process as I think my OH is happy for whatever I want!!

Ladies help - how many of you made their own cards and how much approx did they cost each? Looking at Mandalay and their DIY are £2.15 + bow @ 75p and I would have to print the insert and the personliased ones where they do everything are £4.40 each... think this is a bit expensive but seem to remember spending a fair bit when I made our engagement invites.....

Magicboo - aah all becomes clear - I fancy making some for the church gate and trees :) would look fab thanks for the idea :)

I just sent my invites out yesterday.

cards & envs cost £4.99 from hobbycraft for 50 so £6.98 the rest will be thankyou cards
heart floral stamp for from Noolibird £7.99 - will also use for OOS
Pink ink pad £3.50 - will also use for OOS
Sage ribbon for decoration £7.95 for 25m on ebay
paper for inserts £6.99 but only used 1/3 so £2.33 rest for OOS
    Ink - already had
double sided tape - 79p Dunelem mills

I designed them in Quark a publishing software that I downloaded for a free trial, I was able to draw in a map and everything so it looks really professional. We didnt put extra information sheets in as we have a wedding website (a free one).

Total cost for 70 invites is = 29.58 (ie 42p each)

heck thats cheap... v pleased with the result. My incredibly arty bridesmaid loves them as they are simple but stylish and its easy to carry the theme through.

re: bunting - I have a barn to decorate to will be zig zagging the bunting accross the beams and in between. Thats the plan anyhow. Just need to measure how much bunting my poor old mum will have to make!

cant wait to start recieving RSVPS, we purposely didnt put an email or phone number on the invites to make people respond in writing. not sure if it will work but would be nice if it did!

oh B*llo*cks just realised I haven't put an RSVP address on our invitations and we've already printed them...
    PANTS!!
on a more positive note..I've just spoken to the caterers and found out that if we swap the canapes for soup, the menu will go down to £19.50/head! Apparently one of the canapes we asked for (mini lamb sausages covered in mint jelly) would have to be made to order which bought the cost up considerably! When I get home I'll talk to H2b and see if we are going to go for other & less canapes or soup instead. Do you think you would notice if you didn't have anything with your welcome drink?
Thank you for your help ladies and gent! x
