OK. The increase in the price of an adult passport is £15. We will all have paid £51 for our current 10 year passports - that is £5.10 per year. The new price will be £6.60 per year. Remember that a ten year passport is actually only good for nine and a half years as no country will allow you entry with less than six months on you passport on the date of return to the UK (I guess there may be some countries that do).


A saving of £15 is approx. two and a half years of a new adult passport. So, if you have two and a half years left to run on your current passport (only really valid for two years) then it is worth renewing your passport by the end by 5 October 2006. A shorter period and it makes even more sense as the overall financial advantage increases.

Does anyone know if we need new passports from next year to travel to the USA? My existing UK passport was made in 1998 and expires in 2008 I believe. Don't want to re-new if it's not necessary for the US. Thanks.

Just found someone professional and not related to sign my son's form and photos, and will be going there at 6 tomorrow, and can post up until 7:30pm locally. Do you think this will be ok? His actually needs renewing so it certainly makes sense to try and get it in. (I too was surprised that we wouldn't get a free extension). I could also keep it on me overnight and post as special / recorded etc delivery in the morning.

No, I have not applied yet! My passport expires in March 2007

All applications have to be in by the 4th so you’d not get an online one in by then.the online application is the same as a normal one but they print your details for you and post it to you.you then have to send it off in the normal way.the online applications can’t be checked @ the post office either and there’s only one office in the country that deals with them.get to the post office by Thurs and save some dosh
