Good luck with it, I’ve seen rads/condensers stay leak free with quite severe bends in them but if they are touching they will rub holes in each other.

If you can’t see if they are touching one trick is to slide a strip of cardboard box down into the gap and then move it sideways to see if it jams anywhere. If they are touching a couple of spacers on the mountings will usually do the trick without having to dismantle & re-gas.

Obviously if you can recover from the dog owners insurance just replace them.

Hey bud. I can't actually see whether they're touching at the moment because of the way the front panel is designed, but i'll bare that in mind on Saturday. Thanks :)

    Hi

I don't post very often, but read your thread and didn't want to read and run.

I hope you're okay and the whole incident (and the attitudes of some of the people on here) haven't left you too shaken. The situation was just one of those things that happen and there was nothing you could have done differently. A number of people have suggested that if you had more driving experience it might have made a difference...if it helps, I've been driving for 13 years and I drive 50k a year and I know if I'd have been in your shoes there is nothing I could have done differently, in fact credit should also go to your mate for avoiding going up the back of you and making a bad situation worse.

I sympathise over the car too. My second car was a nearly new Fiesta that I took out a massive loan to buy and a week after I got it a taxi driver pulled out into my driver side wing. I was mortified and hated driving it until the repairs were complete. They cost about £1500 too...don't think that was helped by the fact it was a beautiful, quite rare purple colour.

Hope it's as good as new again soon and you get over the shock okay.

I had a front drivers wing, and dint on car door fixed and one wheel trim replaced last November on 9 years old Ford focus, this was hit and run job on my parked car and it costs £616 on insurance £250 paid by me) this including courtesy car for a 5 days (including weekend). Same panel I had replaced 6 months previous due to rust and a friend of a friend did it for £250, and that was at least £150 cheaper than anywhere else

Labour, paint and parts can rack up a bill very easily.

Almost forgot at time I had a bumper replaced with ex reconditioned one which got resprayed that costs me just under £100 seeing as they were doing work anyway, I paid for that separate nothing to do with insurance work just done at same time, costs came down because they were already going to respray

Hey bud. Thanks for the reply. Thanks for the good words also! What year Fiesta was it? I think i know the colour you're talking about aswell! And yeh, it's a nice colour! I do like the odd colours, my colour is also quite rare which is nice!

I agree about driving with her damaged. I also feel it makes me look like a bad driver, driving around with no grille, a cracked bumper and a massive dent in the bonnet! :(

Hopefully though, my parts should be out of the sprayers tomorrow and will be fitted Saturday! Then she will be pretty again! :)

Umm, you said earlier that the mountings for the headlights are bust - have you been driving it round like that or have you at least done something to fix that??

    What a nasty venomous response!!

You clearly have no idea how much car panels cost to replace, and seem able to tell the car is fit to drive.

I would say its very obviously £1500 from a main dealer whos going to do an insurance quality repair OR £800 to have it done in a smaller independent possibly with non genuine or second hand parts.

Also whats with all the 'uni' remarks?? You got a chip on your shoulder?

Also, would YOU want second hand parts on your car? Why should the O/P have to just roll over and pay for this himself?

People like you really get on my tits.

The O/P has been very decent and not risen to your bait - personally i think i would have told you to !!!! OFF

    very mature!

no i dont have a chip on my shoulder, but perhaps you do?

yes i know quite a bit about panels and garage costs 1. ive sold thousends of panels, i used to work in a motor factors supplying them to repairers.

    2. ive painted more cars than you've had cooked dinners.

    3. theres inconsistancy's in the OP's details of what parts are broken.

    4. take the dog owner to court by allmeans but still the OP will be out of money in the short term if the dog owner pays monthly if the dog owners on benefits if won at court.

5.i see nothing wrong in second hand parts no matter how old the car is its Money saveing isnt it? and yes i have second hand parts on my car.

    6. theres no remarks about uni, just slang for university and no remark intended.

i wasnt "baiting" anyone into a negative response either you read too much into my post.

It's cabletied at the moment to stop it falling out, but i haven't driven at night for that reason.

Fair enough, this is what it's costing though. The bumper as it happens is second hand... And i see no inconsistencies with the parts i have listed as broken?

Front panel, Front grille, Bumper, Bonnet and the Aircon Condenser is dented and bent, but still appears to function.

If you're such an "expert" on bodywork it surprises me that you cant tell that replacing a front bumper, bonnet, grille, headlight, possibly front panel and possibly radiator and various ancilliaries wouldnt easily come to £1500 for an insurance quality job. And that it couldnt be done for much less using non genuine or second hand parts - a point the O/P has long since clarified.

Also, just because you've "painted more cars than i've had hot dinners" didnt stop you coming across as a prat and also isnt particularly relevant - I was an underwriter in the motor trade for going on 15 years, and still have close ties to it, (and therefore, have prepared more cars for resale than "you've had hot dinners") so i'm very well used to estimating damage / repairs to cars prior to resale, so it surprises me that an "expert" like you cant?

Obviously there are inconsistencies from the O/P as to what parts are broken - hes not an "expert" like you.

Also, did you see what i did there included double quotes around the word expert to belittle it - just like you did with the word uni.

My point RE: second hand parts - the O/P shouldnt *have* to now accept parts off scrap cars on his pride and joy over something that clearly wasnt his fault.

Yes, i have a chip on my shoulder - against morons like you trying to make a fool out of people

If you have sharp edges (i.e. broken bits of bumper) at the front of the car the boys in blue might well consider your vehicle to be a potential hazard to pedestrians and pull you over. Quite possible that your vehicle in its present state is unroadworthy, so certainly no valid criticism of you for not driving it in that state.

Thanks, yeh, i did also wonder about that, i've had no trouble so far, but like i've said, i've tried not to drive because of the damage. Hopefully i won't need to worry about the damage soon! Just the money -.-'
