from looking at the pics the car is perfectly fine to drive, all the damage is cosmetic, so really there would of een no need to have time off 'uni'.
first you say theres £1500.00's worth of damage then 7-£800.00's worth WICH IS IT? i hardly see £1500 worth of damage in the pics new bumper, bonnet, light, grill, paint. i think your exagerting the price a little i'd say more around £350-400 if parts are purchased for the repairer.

i would put it down to experience rather than dragging things through court if this person genuinly has no money they cant pay for something they havent got the money for even if you did win you wont get a lump sum more like a few quid a month over so many years if defendant is genuinly broke and on benefits, so youd still be left with a bill to get the car repaired in the meantime.

at the end of it what are you going to achieve? a few quid a month for the damage to the car if won at court, more time off 'uni'.

things like this happens in life just put it down to experience, ennoying that it maybe that your out of pocket, go to scrappy pick up the parts get quotes on painting have them painted so you can use the car for 'uni' and then fit them when you have time. wont cost you time off just a bit outa pocket for the parts and painting the £100.00 the dog owner offered could be the bonnet or light or bumper saveing you 100.00 on another part to buy.

    What a nasty venomous response!!

You clearly have no idea how much car panels cost to replace, and seem able to tell the car is fit to drive.

I would say its very obviously £1500 from a main dealer whos going to do an insurance quality repair OR £800 to have it done in a smaller independent possibly with non genuine or second hand parts.

Also whats with all the 'uni' remarks?? You got a chip on your shoulder?

Also, would YOU want second hand parts on your car? Why should the O/P have to just roll over and pay for this himself?

People like you really get on my tits.

The O/P has been very decent and not risen to your bait - personally i think i would have told you to !!!! OFF

I was wondering myself what the whole 'Uni' comment was about, he even got it wrong. So either way, joke's on him really.

    Right, Damage cost time.

My mother has a V Reg Fiesta, within a week of buying it she rear ended someone - no significant damage visble to either car. Her grille was pushed in slightly and the bumper scuffed. Oh, and the number plate was broken

On examination the bumper iron was bent as was the crossmember across the radiator behind the grille. There was questions as to whether the car would be written off as a result. The bill to the insurance company? £1200 for replacement of the grille, non visible structural elements and a bumper respray. so OPs quotes actually seem pretty decent to me considering that there will be damage we cant see in the pics and there is clear panel damage.

I think the disparity in the prices was the £700 odd if OP did it himself £1500 if he goes through the garages and has to pay labour costs etc.

Just have to add to that, its pretty much impossible to tell how damaged a car really is from a shot like that. Theres all sorts of things that could have been bashed which are hidden from sight - eg. its perfectly possible that the radiator has been pierced - which would make it far from fit to drive

Thanks for the compliment, it really means a lot :)........

Don’t get too smug, I think what she means is you are very articulate for a weed smoking, vodka drinking, dog killing young yobbo. :D

Entertaining as the character assassination is and at the risk of pulling the thread back on topic, have you been to see the dog owner again yet? Any news?

    +1

Plastic bumpers are designed to absorb the impact then bouncing back out, so it could easily have damaged the front panel and radiator.

Also, the headlight is now out of line and would potentially dazzle other drivers.

I'm going to go ahead and take that as a joke? Lol, I was merely thanking someone for a compliment : /

And no, I haven't seen him again yet, I also forgot to call the damn insurance company because I had a lot of college work to do. Dammit.

Yeah, was meant as a joke......sorry, I forgot irony detectors aren’t fully developed until early twenties so I’ll go back and add a :D to avoid confusion.

Sounds like you have got the repairs under control, one thing I would mention, if the condenser is bent make sure it's not touching the rad, if it is they will rub against each other and leak and then your £700 becomes a grand when you include cond/rad/regas

Yeh, this will be checked on the weekend, the aircon is still functioning and i've not had any leaks, so that's a good indicator so far. But as you say, this will be checked this weekend :)

Good luck with it, I’ve seen rads/condensers stay leak free with quite severe bends in them but if they are touching they will rub holes in each other.

If you can’t see if they are touching one trick is to slide a strip of cardboard box down into the gap and then move it sideways to see if it jams anywhere. If they are touching a couple of spacers on the mountings will usually do the trick without having to dismantle & re-gas.

Obviously if you can recover from the dog owners insurance just replace them.
