I am sure you friend wouldnt have wanted to go back if she had knowingly handled a counterfeit note. A good lesson to be learnt, make sure you know what to look for in future... esp if she deals with money at work

True, but if they were easy to spot there wouldn't be any around.

Im not saying they are easy to spot, just that if you friend is working in an environment of regularly handling money it would be useful for her to learn the signs :-)

True. To be honest unless the note was bright purple i wouldn't really look. Funny that when we hand notes over they always check, but as a customer i never check the notes i recieve. Funny really.

I've read the posts up til now, but my first thought hasn't come up yet so I thought I'd post.

In the situation given how is anyone to know whether the note the manager eventually passes to the police is the note your friend brought into the shop? What's to stop him/her from taking a note he already knows is fake to the police and pocketing the one your friend gave?
I don't see how the Coop can come out well in this. Since no receipt was given it's only your friend's word against theirs regarding the particular note and I am sure the press would have fun reporting this as it's neither transparent nor fair.

    It's only a game

Some good tips for £20 notes

1,If you look closely at the holagram it doesnt change from the pound sign to the number 20 when you tilt it on the 2nd & 4th holagram image.

2, On a real note the writing that says BANK OF ENGLAND is raised if you feel it with your finger and on a fake one it feels smooth.

3, If you put a fake note up to the light the Queens head watermark that is on the left side doesnt resemble the queens head at all.

4, The silver foil line is fake because if you rip where its supposed to be it will rip straight through where on a real one it doesnt rip through the foil line.

5, Finally the paper feels different to a real note and is slightly yellower.

They are not legally allowed to give it back.

Even if you got a receipt for it, it wouldnt have done any good because you couldnt claim the £20 back from anyone, well, only the person who created the forgery and they will be long gone.

Its no one elses fault, so the shop/police/royal bank of england wouldnt refund you, its not their fault so why should they be £20 down.

So a receipt under these circumstances would be useles.
So its a sorry from me but the customer loses out.

I think you maybe really should do some legal research, going to the papers is a bit OTT and ithink you may end up with egg on your face.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I don't think your quite understandin the thread a receipt was wanted incase the £20 note wasn't fake in that matter there is no reason be it legal or otherwise that the person cannot be refunded the £20 that was taken.

Yes if its a fake its understood that it can't be returned. The shop won't be £20 down as it was never taken as payment for anything it was sieezed.
