I woudl stay in the store until i was given a receipt or something to show the note had been taken off me and teh reason why it was taken off me0

Had it been me i would have done just that. My friend isn't that upfront or confident and i think the way in which it was handled embarressed her greatlyI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

First of all, they didnt take the note off her. She offered it in payment.
The fact is that they wouldnt give it back to her as they thought it may be a fake.
Another poster said 'I would have thought that the store would simply refuse to accept an iffy note. '
They couldn't refuse an iffy note because they couldnt know if it was iffy until
after they acceptedit.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Thats true, i have no issue with the fact they seized the note. I have no problem that they refused to give it back. My problem is A) how it was dealt with andthe fact that if the note turns out to be legal (as i do not think running a pen over the note is a 100% accurate test) she will not get the refund but the co-op will as they will be the ones who hand it to the police and recieve the crime number/reciecpt.

i don't know anything about the legal issues but if i was your friend to be honest i'd be contacting the police to have the record on file with them from her point of view - surely as the note was removed and no goods given in return with no proof of it being a fake and no receipt given then the store has effectively stolen from her?0

Contact your local press I'm sure they might like the story about the uncooperative coop0

Report it as theft to the police."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Phone them back and tape the call so they verbally admit that they took it (or am I getting too Miss Marple?) then give the police a ring. The thing that Im confused about is that they didnt take any of your details. Surely if it was fake the bank or police would want to speak with you in any case?:smileyhea0

I really dont have a clue. If there is law surrounding the removal of a potentially fake not than i would assume they would also stipulate what happens to the customer. It doesn't sound right that they can just take it.
If i knew that i would have been whipping £20's of my customers for years, could be relaxing on a beach somewhere now lolI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
If they had accepted it as payment it is up to them what they do. If they did not and just refused to give it back then that is theft, plain and simple - report it to the Police straight away.0
