Assume the note is genuine untill it is proved fake. The shop does not have to accept it if it has doubts and if it decides to retain the note you should be given a receipt for it and the police should be informed.I would contact the police as your friend is either a victim of fraud,by being handed a fake note,or theft, the shop has taken the money and kept it.I would also contact the head office in writing and complain about the unproffesional way you were treated. They seem to be assuming the person who handed the note over was aware it is a forgery.Good luck0

I just spoke to a lady at the bank of england who is appauled at my treatment. She advised me to contact trading standards, as the BOE can only advise companies, but she was shocked at how they dealt with the situation and told me not to give up.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

no way would I accept something like this, phone the police and make a complaint . until they can prove that the note is a fake they have stolen it from you and if they believe that the note is fake they should have called the police when it was confiscated0

perhaps next time you go in ask for cashback...say £100 or so! take the money, pop it in your pocket declaring "those notes were all fake" refuse to hand them back or acknowledge that you took them and refuse to leave till they hand you your 'real' £100.
at the very least it should make the manager realise what an @rsehole he was being when dealing with you first time around. If you make his life miserable by playing games like this all the time im sure he will give in and give you a poxy reciept.0 -
Dont worry. Wont be dropping this. Like a dog with a bone when something annoys me lolI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

Either return one final time or call and try to get it recorded. if you cant it isnt a problem as the till would have shown £20 up, if they did not hand over any goods purchased. They will also have CCTV, but the tape will probably be wiped after 7 days.
I would then make a formal complaint to police ASAP at least so you have it recorded and they can advise a course of action
You cant just whip money off someone and claim its conterfeit with no recourse
IMO I would get a move on though as time is against you.. there is no point in making a complaint 3 weeks after
Oh and I can assure you, local press would have a field day, give them a call or if your shy email. I did that about my local pool 6 momths ago and made the front page he he he
Section 1 of the theft Act 1968 A person is guilty of theft if: he dishonestly* appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it.
* although they have handled it wrong I doubt you could assume or prove dishonesty0 -
I agree with everything above but what happens if you go to the police/press and then it turns out to be fake0
-
I don't think it matters whether it's fake. it's the way in which the entire situation was handled. They cannot tell me it's fake, the bank has to.
Going to ring trading standards and then if the lady i spoke to hasn't rang back tonight i will call the police in the morning and then the paper (if my friend consents)I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
I am sure you friend wouldnt have wanted to go back if she had knowingly handled a counterfeit note. A good lesson to be learnt, make sure you know what to look for in future... esp if she deals with money at work0
