OS Daily Thread - Monday 8th March

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 8th March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Donnygal - hope you had fun at the bar and that the singer was good.
jc - the idea of you and your husband throwing some shapes made me smile!! I hope you have a nice time when you get there.
Noahs - I love what Noah calls his eggs, that is so descriptive.
N9eav - I love BBQ food, how nice to have a conservatory to enjoy the sun without the cold.
Lamewolf - Hope you are doing OK hon, and are regaining your equilibrium a little after the upset of the beautiful she-wolf dying.
flutterby - to some people, heating things up in an oven IS cooking.. giggle.gif You will be able to impress them no end when it's your turn to cook.
Hester - Glad your husband got paid eventually, can't believe they didn't sort it out before!
Julie - I hope your dear daughter is feeling better, it's so sad when a relationship breaks up after so long a time.
Jayward - Hugs to you hon - hope you got on ok with your appointments.
Redruby - Glad you had a good day yesterday!
th_sunsmilie.gifYesterday in my little part of South Devon was really cold but it was sunny all day and the cat basked in it with a smug grin on her face as she was on our bed for most of the afternoon in a big patch of sunlight. Today feels cold but it's too soon to judge whether the sun will come out.
My dwarf cherry tree arrived and is now soaking in a bucket of water ready to be planted later today. It already has buds on it and they promise fruit this summer so looking forward to that!
HShungry.gifBreakfast will be a tin of rice pudding.. I found a small one at the back of the larder and decided it would make a good breakfast treat!!; lunch will be chicken and HM coleslaw open sandwiches, and dinner will be gammon cooked in cola with green beans and fried potatoes.
I hope everyones week starts well and that anyone feeling poorly feels better. With love and light for all.

    Morning peeps

OOH! its cold this morning, thick frost everywhere and the car needed a good scrape before i set off.

Seems like we are in for a busy morning w*rkwise, lots of peeps seem to be out and about early, i usually hardly see any traffic at 5am but there was a fair bit today.

Can`t decide what to have for brekkie later, think it will either be beans on toast or sardines on toast - decisions decisions :D

I`ve planted the first of the tiny seeds that have sprouted in the airing cupboard upstairs and now i`ve put some tomato seeds in there to see if they will do the same. The ground is too frozen outside to do anything atm which was a bit disappointing yesterday as when i got home i was in a gardening type mood.

Tea tonight will be toad in the hole with veg and lashings of onion gravy YUM! i`m quite looking forward to that, we were supposed to be having salami omelettes and wedges but DH used the last of the salami to wrap oldie doggies tablets in so i`ve altered the meal planner slightly.

Not much more to report so i`ll stop rambling now :D

Have a lovely day peeps and wrap up warm.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Morning Diva, Sunnyday and all to follow.

Its freezing here today, hoping for sunshine again later.

Office day today though hope to fit in some housework and ironing too. Used my new lakeland squegee to clean windows Friday and it definately makes the job easier so plan to try and get more done today, especially now the sun is making an appearance.

Chicken curry with leftover chicken tonight. Have some tinned salmon left over so that will be my sandwiches for lunch.

    Have a great day.x

Morning. -4c here and frost today. Winds are light and it looks a perfect day. Fishing was cancelled though :( Too much swell and wind out at sea. So no getting my tackle out today... shame it needs to be out
So I have a day to myself and pottering seems to be the game of the day.

I managed to clean up some of the garden yesterday. I need to repair the greenhouse and start to think about digging the veg plot. When the ground thaws out. My garlic is coming up already, which is one thing.

BBQ worked well, tasty good, corn on the cob from the freezer we grew last year.... delicious. red wine and Lark rise to Candleford by the fire..... Not a bad evening.

    Well, folks Cheers for now..

    Morning all,

Very cold here today, apperantly it will feel like -1 with the wind chill, I have a lot to keep me busy inside and in the warm, I will have to wrap up warm later to take little dog for a walk.

I need to do an online shop today, I am not sure if I should get a fortnights worth or not, we have gone nearly three weeks since the last delivery, but I am nipping up the shop for forgotten things, and spending too much, I think it might be cheaper to do it weekly

House needs a good going over, and I have at least two loads to do in the wm.

Not sure what dinner will be, need to go and check the freezer.

I got lots of lovley gifts yesterday, my dd got me a beautiful bracelett made from shell when she was in spain.

OH got me a new pair of hunter wellies, and wellie socks, a bird house, herb planter, a hugs box of Hotel Chocolat chocs, ear phones, I had such a lovley day :D, thanks again for all your good wishes.

I wanted to say, thanks of the OS lady who offered to take my curtains up for me, you are a star, will find out about postage today :T

Hope you all have good days xx

Just done an online shop to be delivered Wednesday so I have all the ingredients for my marathon baking day on Friday.

Best get a move on, work calls :(. Hope everyone has a good day xx

Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.

N9eav - you're very cheeky this early in the morning!

Dry and very frosty here this am, but at least no rain or snow. OH gone to work early but not stupid early o'clock but think that may the only morning this week that he goes at a reasonable hour!

Had a fab weekend, Fri afternoon went to local homeware store to buy net/voile curtain for my bedroom, couldn't find anything I liked ready made so took measurements to have it cut from a roll and then just needed to put a hem down each side as top and bottom already done. Gave the lady the measurements in cms as we now metric, when I got home and she had given me the net measured in inches so it was the wrong size, returned to the store to be told that everything is sold in cms EXCEPT the nets/voile on a roll as they sell that in inches! I politely reminded them that we are metric and it's against the law to sell in imperial weights/measures - I duly got the correct net (which was substantially cheaper), and a refund for the incorrect one. Think they really need to get their act together as there was another couple there who I'd seen at the counter the day before and they were complaining because they had had curtains made and they were the wrong size! But after all that I'm really pleased with the curtain now it's up.

Went out Sat evening, and I have to now realise I'm to old to cope with hangovers, had a real bad head when I woke up yesterday - when will I learn?! We stayed in the caravan Sat evening, was good although cold as water etc froze.

Have chosen the paint I want to decorate the dining room and have ordered the carpet, so OH now lifting the yukky flooring so we can crack on with the painting before the carpet is laid, we have a while so shouldn't be too bad.

Need to pop off, need to get hair done and face on, ready to face the world!!

Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Hola ! Everyone

First of all a little sad news I had a phone call from my brother at 5.30am here this morning to say the home had called him, and our 89 year old Dad had had a massive stomach bleed, and the paramedics were with him, and then another 15 mins. later to say he had died. It is sad, but a release for he is now at peace, as many of you know Dad had been in dementia since Nov 2003, and had no idea of who we were, where he was, he was also virtually blind and deaf and bedridden for the last two/three years, and had no quality of life. As none of the above were life threatening it is classed as a sudden death, and the police had to be called so, I won't know any more for a while. We will carry on with our travel plans getting back into the UK on Friday, but may forego the weekend in Kent/London, but it will depend on how things progress.

On a brighter note, the evening was brilliant this is the singer. It was a really good night, and really I shouldn't tell you lot this, but as someone mentioned getting his tackle out, a stag party turned up, fancy dress but not a problem, then one of them walked into the gents, took all his clothes off, folded them into a neat pile with his shoes on top and then walked out and joined the singer at the front, well luckily the singer did his training in the Northern working mens clubs, and handled it, he was singing Coldplays Chasing Cars at the time, and apart from stuttering with laughter over a couple of words, carried on regardless, 99% of the place just couldn't stop laughing, it was done so matter of factly. The guy (mid-late 20's and not the groom) wasn't the slightest bit excited, however, I think there were a few envious folk around IYKWIM;);):D, we may not have much money but we do see life!
Today will be cleaning, washing and packing.

    Take care - DG

P.S. Think you can get the weather to turn a bit warmer for our return:o:eek:

    morning, and hugs to all...

i am at work, but have high hopes for pegging out washing tonight, i will be slatternly and leave it out all night if the forecast is good, it's so much nicer to get it in fresh from the line than have it draped about the house...

i have a feeling that i slept witrh my heating on last night, which i'm sure will have cost me a fortune, so i will be refusing to turn it on now for ages....

i have bought lunch to work, and got a lift this morning, so apart from my weekly bus ticket, today will hopefully be a NSD...

    Good Morning Everyone.

{{{Hugs }}} to Donnygal and family. So sorry to hear of your loss, but as someone who used to work in a home for people with dementia, I know how much of a release it can be when the person you know has already been gone for a long time. However, I'm sure this doesn't lessen your sadness at your dad's passing. X

W*rk today, OH not very well, and had to come home halfway there to go to the loo IYSWIM! My cold/cough has gotten a lot worse too, but I'll get through it, I'm sure, it's really annoying though, and five hours talking on he phone at work won't be fun. No big OS plans except dinner, which will be HM veggie sausagerolls and soup, I made the sweet potato and red onion soup I was talking about the other day and it was delish, so it's defrosting now for tonight.

The Christening was lovely yesterday, my friend and her OH also had their marriage blessed by the priest and renewed their vows, which was lovely, and I had a wee tear in my eye. The baby was very well behaved and didn't make a peep! They laid on a lovely buffet afterwards, and although I couldn't get the men in my life up for a dance, we had a lovely time.

Better get a move on. Little Coco doesn't seem herself today, she was a bi funny last night too, very quiet and subdued and nervous, I'm hoping it's something to do with her being in season, but OH will keep an eye on her today and go to the vets if she doesn't perk up a bit. Anyone with a female dog care to give me some pointers?

Have a lovely day all. hugs to the poorlies and worried.

Donny, I am so sad to hear about your dad, must be very hard for you, at least as you say he must be at peace now, my thoughts are with you all xx
