Hello, I wondered if you might know off hand if it's worth applying for PLA or the Childcare allowance?

DH Monthly income 1330 (1329.and some pence) Net (ie £19995k gross)
    CTC 164 4 weekly
    CB 80 4 weekly
Student Loan and grant works out to 541 per month ie 6.5k per year total paid to me

    Monthly Outgoings
    Mortgage 350
    Endowment 67
    Payment protection 9.00
    Council Tax 85
Childcare 90 per month on average

I paid the buildings and contents for the year at £190.00

I don't think any other bills count such as car insurance? We have no loans.

Edited to say: 1 Child, aged 7.

Thanks for looking if you get chance.

Need to double check. For some reason, something is bugging me about social work entitlement for a 2nd degree.

    Heya Taiko

Just seen something on The Student Room where people have said that Social Work is classed as a professional qualification so should be entitled to Student Loan for people who already have a degree...

Phone student finance and they initially said no and then yes!

Is this what was bugging you??? I hope so!

Confirmed using SSIN. Oddly, the words "Social work" were removed from the regs. They're in the SSIN's though, so it's ok for some support. Will do full calculations as and when.
  • Taiko you are a star! Woudl appreciate some calculations as the form won't let me progress once I entered my existing degree! SF told me to fill in a paper copy and send it in...

    Many thanks also to SSN!
  • Taiko, you are a star for working all of this out for people! I don't understand why the student finance calculator doesn't do it for people, perhaps you should forward HMRC your spreadsheet!

I didn't even know I was entitled to PLA as I don't need the CCG, but having read these forums I've sent off proof of all of our outgoings, but I don't see anything on how to work out how much we might get.

I know you're incredibly busy, but if I could be really cheeky could you do some calculations for me too? If not, don't worry, or if possible I could do it myself if you let me have the spreadsheet (I'm pretty PC literate and quick to figure things out).

My OH earnings for the year will be around £4k (I've always been the full-timer while he has been the part-timer/househusband, he is looking for a full time position)

My loan and grant are £7399 for the year (I have earnt around £7200 gross for this tax year from the job I have left)

CTC is £82 per week (I'm querying this at the moment)

    2 children aged 14 and 16 (16 yr old doing A-Levels)

    Rent £86.71 per week

Council Tax £136 per month (without the discount which hasn't been applied yet)

    Contents insurance £10 per month

Like I say, no worries if you don't have time, I would just like to know if I am entitled to anything.

    Taiko

can you please do a calculation for me, I have been awarded full PLA and about 80% of my child care costs but now my partner has been awarded a car allowance and I'm worried about being over paid or havin the grants taken away. The increase is £3000 per anum £1800 after deductions
    Here is my info

    2 children

partner income after tax, NI, and student loan deductions 16,600

    working tax £0
    Child tax £5000
    Child benefit £1755

    Household deductions

    Rent 2100
    council tax 750
    Hp for car 2796

    child care 110 per week.

Rent increases in October to £400 per month dont know how this will affect it, so 11 months@ £400, £4400 for year.

Thanks in advance if you can look at this for me

All these will need to be done at a later time. I'm a bit swamped with things right now. Will do asap.

I don't think they take the car loan into consideration, I was told by student finance they only count Rent/Mortgage, Council Tax, House Insurance, Life Insurance. No debts and no other household bills are counted.

Is your rent and council tax £2850 per month or is that the amount over the whole year? Because it seems either ridiculously high  or ridiculously low :T !

Don't worry Taiko, I'm hoping they receive everything in the next few days so I should hear something in the next couple of weeks, and to be honest it's money I never expected so I'm not counting on it otherwise I'll be gutted if I don't get anything! I'm seeing it as a welcome bonus if anything materialises!

Hope everything is ok, looking back through the thread you've obviously had a rubbish time of late, you need to concentrate on you and not on us! Take care x
