I don't know if I can be bothered to get all the info they want together. They don't wantto say what they will include or not: I was told today to send everything we pay and they will decide what is relevant. I was also told that if our residual income is more than the grant would be then we are not entitled to anything; that'll teach me for being frugal!

Ho hum. I'm pretty sure there will be more than 2k per year left over if they include my Student Finance as long as we don't eat :)

No grounds for them to accept it, assessment looks correct.

    Hi Taiko,

My wife has started her under graduate university course this september (Sep-2011) and we have 1 child. As part of the student finance application we applied for a Child Care Grant and sent the required evidence of outgoings by post. However, we received a letter that based on our situation we are not entitled to Child Care Grant or Parents learning allowance for Academic year 2011-2012 since our net income was much higher than our outgoings. However, recently our household financial situation has changed quite a lot and we are finding it very difficult to afford child care costs £800 per month due to the following reasons:

    1. Mortgage payments have increased significantly due discounted deal coming to an end and having to re-mortgage
    2. My income is based on salary + dividend basis. The dividend aspect has dropped due to poor perfomance of the company and hence net take home for the financial year will be much lower than previously anticipated.
    3. We met with a car accident and our car been written off. We now need to get another car on finance as we did not have comprehensive insurance.
    4. Also, I need to take a personal loan for some home improvements to sort out heating and electrics in our flat.

Can you advise we can re-apply for child care grant for the current year? Based on income / outgoings stated below, what % of childcare costs can we expect as a grant?

    Net Income:
My net take home: £2100 per month (£7000 salary per annum + £18000 dividend per annum which can be variable)
Wife's net take home: £570 per month (£7000 salary per annum)

    Eligible Outgoings:
    Mortgage: £1400 per month
    Council tax: £105 per month
Car hire purchase: £300 per month
Unsecured personal loan for home improvement: £400 per month.
Life / Medical Insurance: £200 per month (including premium paid to overseas insurance company)

Also, for which period is the net annual income considered for the grant calculations? Is it the estmated income for current academic year (in our case Sep 2011 - Aug 2012) or is it based on the previous financial years income? or is it another period?

Can you confirm if the monthly payments towards the items listed below are eligible outgoings for pupose of calculating childcare grant?
    • Unsecured personal loan for home improvement
    • Car Hire Purchase / Lease payment
    • Life insurance premium paid overseas (Indian insurance company)
    • Health Insurance Premium

Sorry for so many questions at one go, but we really appreciate your help at the moment.

    Thanks a tonne in advance.
  • Hi, Sorry for jumping on this thread, I am currently being re-assessed by student finance for my childcare grant and parental learning allowance. I have included a full income and expenditure and proof of all my outgoings etc.
I was just wondering if anyone knew how much Student Finance allowed for housekeeping and gas etc.
I understand they don't ask for proof of any of this so I am assuming that they have set allowances according to the ammount of people in your household. I am married with three young children and have worked out that if they consider all of the outgoings that I have sent ( mortgage, council tax, car repayment ) that I have around £400 per month spare, my childcare will be £800 per month and then we obviously have all our other bills they don't ask for proof of and our housekeeping and food.
Surely I would be entitled to something, we don't have a penny to spare at the moment !

    Hi,
I wonder if you are still around Taiko...
I am looking to start an MSc Social Work, and apart from the usual Social Work bursary and fees paid by the NHS, I can't get a student loan because it is postgrad study. I have read that I could be entitled to a PLA and CCG.

My husband's NET income is roughly 1340pcm and 243 childcare vouchers. We do not qualify for childcare element of tax credits and don't get WTC at all (with one child we get £520 a year CTC, but will have 2 children by the time I go so CTC will be about £2500pa). Ch. benefit is currently for one child but when I go we will get £1757.60pa.
I will get £3075 incentive to train bursary plus £2215 graduate bursary.
So our net income each year, including cc vouchers (before any overtime my husband does - not very often these days), is roughly £29000 a year (say £29500 for arguments' sake).
Mortgage is 6324pa. Council tax £1275. House ins. £350. Life ins £150. Childcare for child one is supplemented by early years funding; after the 15hrs EYF, we pay about 4500 a year for full time; child two is going to be a further 5500 a year.

Will we get any help? Thank you so much in advance. :o)
