Slim Fast

Has anyone actually lost weight using slim fast? If so, how quickly have you lost the weight?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Slim Fast is just a drink to fill up your stomach and dull your appetite.
You might as well save your money and drink a glass of water.

I lost a stone and a half on it years and years ago (took a few weeks), but I was constantly hungry. It's not worth it - what's needed is a slow and steady permanent change to food choices and lifestyle.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

But is it better to use something like slim fast than not eat at all? I drink throughout the day like water/orange juice/fruit smoothies (Innocent/PJ).

I too lost a stone and a bit on slim fast. It is not the way to do it though, and I put it back on.

Loosing weight is all about changing behavior.

You cannot 'not eat at all' for the rest of your life. You cannot be on slim fast for the rest of your life.

What you have to do is slightly up your activity and slightly decrease your calorie intake a bit at a time until you are burning slightly more calories than you are eating. Then your weight will go down.

It's boring, slow and you won't look good in a bikini next week (I still don't, but I only have Mrs Toothsmith's word on that :D ) But it's the only sustainable way to do it.

My biggest was 17st 9 yrs ago. I'm now 14. I would like to loose another stone -stone +1/2, but I regularly cycle 40-50 miles and can do cycle rides over 100m as well as doing the Gt Nth Run every year for the last 5 years, so I'm pretty fit now. I just like food too much.

Slim fast kick started it, but it was the change in lifestyle that really did the job for me. Buy some trainers, or a bike. It's much cheaper and more effective than stop/start fad diets.

I never have breakfast, I know it is the most important meal of the day, but since finding a mouses foot in my cornflakes when I was 12, I just can't stomach eating anything out of a box.

So, knowing that I have to lose weight which means having 3 balanced meals a day, I knew I had to do something, so I have the coffee slim fast shake for breakfast. This is enough to keep me going without snacking, I then drink lots of water during the day, as I do a lot of driving, snacking is my main sin, so every day at around 11.00am, I have a drink of fruit juice with psyllium husk in, this expands in the stomach and gives a feeling of fullness and takes away the snacking urge.

I have been following this routine since I came back from holiday on June 14th and have also been taking Biofirm tablets, the combination of everything including cutting out excess fats and sugars has left me a stone lighter and feeling considerably better in myself.

That wins a prize as the strangest thing I've read for a long time!

Slim fast won't have any real bearing over the rate you lose weight, a balanced diet with sufficient cardio will. You lose weight by having Calories out > Calories in. Slim fast is a relatively low caloried drink, so yes you can lose weight while drinking it; not as a direct result of drinking it but instead the calorific deficit through a healthy diet. The point is, don't overthink it, the forumla for weight loss is simple and Slim fast is a good snack/ alternative food source. Use it in conjunction with your balanced diet & the weight will come off! Don't think of it as a miracle cure though, you need a balanced diet for your macronutrient requirements & slim fast is an expensive alternative.

With regards to your Question about smoothie's, Juice etc... I'd advise against it. A glass of juice can be comparable to having a number of pieces of fruit. Do yourself a favour and try to eat porridge for breakfast, then you won't require a mid-morning snack to keep you going and for your drink take green tea, a glass of water, or a cup of tea. If you do need a snack then have a piece of fruit. You can also drink milk in the morning (ignore the common misconception about drinking milk on a diet, just not full fat).

I don't think I'm going to try slim-fast. Instead I shall just cut out all crisps, cakes, chocolate e.t.c I work everyday so I don't really snack at all. I shall just have 3 meals a day and that's all.

I'm so paranoid of people thinking I'm overweight it's getting really silly. I'm a size 12 which I know isn't that big but I strive to be a size 8/10.

Your nowhere near overweight! And I bet you look better than me in a bikini!

Cutting out ALL crisps cakes & choccies won't last forever, and will just make you crave them. Cut out some, and use the stairs instead of the lift, or walk a bit further each day.

Little changes that can last forever.

I'd be far too embarassed to wear a bikini.

Thank you all for your great advice.
