I can see how someone on £26,000 might need a bit of extra money (to PAD!!!) but at £50,000?!?!
I think it has all been speculation at present regarding any change to this but it's bound to happen soon.
I think the changes announced in the budget are to do with chldcare which is paid via Working Tax Credit because at the moment they spread it throughout the year even if you only have childcare to pay in school holidays which can make it difficult to budget for some.
Also they are going to allow people over 60 who are still in work to claim Working Tax Credit if they work 16 hours instead of the usual 30 hours. I think this is good news for them.
From April 2012 the child element of child tax credit will rise by £4 if you have a child aged one or two. (at the moment you get a baby element until the baby is 1)

i understand but i have to disagree slightly, when you mention someone on £26k a year may need help, do you mean one person or a joint wage as when the national minimum wage comes in at £12,410 and people manage on that then another £14k is a big lot of extra money compared to some, this is not a personal dig at anyone by the way i just feel, ive managed for many years on the national minimum wage or just above and with budgeting and trying to be sensible i have managed like im sure many of us have,Debt as of 20/4 £6921.20

but I thought they were keeping tax credits for incomes below 50k-maybe I've got that wrong. Also assumed that angelic isn't earning more than 50k a year unless she's keeping it very quiet
Angelic doesn't even earn a tenth of 50k
Angelic's OH works with cash, thousands of pounds everyday and gets 10k a year...we're, unfortunately, one of those poor families with take or leave it jobs, we take in less than 1k between us every month
We're not one of those poor 'rough' families though (Jeremy Kyle style)...we hide our poorness very well :rotfl:
I think there's been a lot of speculation surrounding TC/WTC so lets just keep our rfingers crossed that they don't change too much.
I know that some of you won't get them and do struggle on 'just' your pay but to those who are receiving them, they are like a lifeline.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10
Aim for 2011 - pay off car loan £260.00 saved

I know you weren't aiming it at me...I just thought it sounded like those who get TC, we're kind of rubbing it in a little bit to those who don't...I wanted to justify my reason for getting themStarted PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

Hamster I mostly do agree as my parents managed to bring up my brother & I on quite a low income from my dad's struggling bike shop. We never went on holiday or had extravagent things but never remember feeling like we were missing out either-probably lucky that we lived in the middle of nowhere-the outdoors is free
Maybe I'm wrong but everything also seems more expensive now, especially houses. If people are living sensibly but still can't manage then wages are too low & I think it's right they should have some extra help. Maybe the new government could double the minimum wage :rotfl: Angelic must be doing brilliantly-I can barely manage on my income & that's without adding children into the mix!! & sorry angelic for discussing your income in your absence
