  • I had a letter this morning from one of my credit card companies informing me of a rate change, but giving me the option of keeping the rate the same and having the account closed once I've paid it off. I rang them, as it's the card I'm trying to pay off anyway and only have £50 left to pay, and I was informed I could keep the account open and keep the rate the same. Apparently I'm one of the customers who they decided can keep the original rate?? I'm sure it's a con of some description, but I would prefer to keep it open for a bit just as a safety net, I don't have the card itself but am worried about any major emergencies as I don't really have any savings. Do you think they offered to keep my rate the same as I've paid off so much (over 2k including a BT to another card) in the last few months?

I reckon it's impossible to say Miss Psycho :) .
I've had so many conflicting messages from credit card companies in recent years that I've all but given up trying to make sense of them. I've had companies threaten to close the account because I don't use it enough and I've had the same threat for using it a lot. I might pay a big lump sum to one and get my limit increased as a "reward" (not so common these days) and I might pay a big sum to another company who promptly reduce my limit to just above what I owe them. With one card, they drop my limit a few hundred pounds every few months as my balance reduces and THE SAME COMPANY phoned me up to ask if I wanted to transfer a balance at a good rate. Conflicting messages from different companies is one thing but I don't expect them from the same company. When I asked how much I could transfer (bearing in mind you can't go above about 95% of your limit with transfers) it worked out at about £99. The minimum transfer is £100. I asked the guy if he was extracting the urine out of me. He did apologise after telling me that there is a lag between a limit reducing and them being informed. It was quite funny really and we had a laugh over it.
So, bearing in mind the above, yo've got as much chance of a lottery jackpot as making sense of credit card policies. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I've more chance of understanding women than understanding credit card companies :D .
  • £297.98 to about 4 different credit cards/catalogues :(
Feeling rather down today like many of you so will jump off.Im feeling slightly better for having Padded though so there must be something in it eh :D

  • That amused me, thanks Paul!! I figured there wouldn't be a reason for it, but glad Euro had the same . I was just worried it was some sort of con, but seeing as I'm paying it off this month and then not using it except in an emergency, I shouldn't panic!

But we aren't the complicated ones, sorry Paul, it's you men!!

  • Hiya guys, not been here for a long while as not been able to PAD... or do anything in fact!
OH still hasn't got a job, and doesn't appear to be looking very hard IMO! So I am at the point of near financial meltdown :o

I have had to cancel all the DDs for the debts, and will today be writing letters to all of them offering token payments until OH gets a job.... our budget is tight as already, and whats pushing us over the edge is the debt repayments...

I have also been moved to another store (a good thing) but the fuel bill have quadrupled ( a bad thing) which also has not helped the budgets :(

I am thoroughly skint (can't even afford to buy ink cartridges for my printer, so will have to hand write all the letters) and am totally depressed by the whole situation!

    Ho hum!

    Sx

Sarah. Maybe someone on here would print them out for you and post them to you if you were OK giving out your address by PM? If you want to keep account numbers and debt amounts confidential you could always leave a space and just fill that bit by hand. If you save the files as pdf or rtf I believe they keep their formatting. Alternatively, if you have the money for a bit of photocopying you could always do a standard letter by hand, copy it a few times, and fill in the relevant details after copying - a sort of stone age mailmerge :) .
I would be happy to do it for you if you wish - or perhaps you would feel happier asking one of thew ladies?
  • Sarah... Pauls suggestion is a brilliant one, I'm happy to help too xxx I've been useless this last week giving any advice or help as I seem to have lost any brain function sorry. xx

We are simple souls really with one track minds - usually dirt track :D . We are unable to think of too many things at once. I was trying to add something up in my head, then someone asked me what the weather was like. The result? I forgot my name.
  • I can do that and I'm not male.... I'm always forgetting something that was said literally 2 seconds before. Never forgot my name though;) If I'm this bad now, at 24, I will probably forget my name before I'm 30 I reckon and senile dementia is a dead-cert!:o
