    Hi Cindie,

    This older thread should help:

    sole plate of iron (cleaning)

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the replies together.

Thanks for the tip. Do you do it whilst the iron is hot or cold.

    Hello,

I am very lucky in that my Mum comes to my house while I am at wwork, and does my ironing. However, she quite often leaves the iron with some "stuff" on the plate.

I looked a t cloths to clean the iron, but at £2.50 a pop, I wondered whether there was some OS method I could use?

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Hi julliff

There's an older thread on cleaning an iron that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Oops, I've ironed OH's shirt and some iron crud came off on the collar. Won't scrape off.

Q1 - Any ideas how to clean shirt
Q2 - how to clean iron so it doesn't happen again!

    Thanks

For the iron you need descaler as it's limescale, vineager or lemon juice may work, check out the "uses for vinegar" thread. May work on shirt but may stain!
    Good luck.
