OH decided not to go to the show in the end which meant not spending £50 or so getting there, getting in and having lunch. Instead he spent a morning zeroing his latest gadget for the pistol which now transforms it into someting you slap a lazer on and zap without really putting much effore in . OTday hes planning a trip to the shooting range. Did I mention Sundays complaint that hes bored of shooting? No? Must have slipped his mind too. Although his is contmeplating part ex-ing one of his rifle for something else.... cue a four figure expenditure with a small reduction. Why can't the boy collect stamps or find a marginally cheaper hobby?

Managed to donate four bags of tat from the DDs room to the school fayre. So far neither of them have noticed the absence of stuff nor the aborted attempts at tidying their rooms. If only it were as easy to get rid of the stuff OH never touches although I fear he may notice the absence of the Landrover wing he uses as a coffee table and the bulkhead tha everybody kicks on the way to the dining table. Did suggest he did some work on it whilst its dry but the end result of the conversation was the removal of the bits hes already fitted in order to spend more money so that Ihe can put them back on. Not entirely sure why this is nescessary but then I am merely a bubble headed bimbo. The finer points of a slowly rusting hunk of metal are clearly way beyond my understanding.

Escaped the dentist without a no show fine but did get the usual rant about receding gums, too much coffee etc etc and most importantly flossing every day. Erm yeah. Of course. There are days when just staying awake long enough to clean my teeth requires a bit too much effort.

Finally crammed the wheelie bin to the point at which adding any more will result in the bin men refusing to empty it. Mostly its full of puppy poo. Can't believe just how much the hairball poops. Tis truly astounding that one so small can carp so much.

Plans today involve washing all the dogs treasured possessions and flea bathing the little darlings. After that I'll clean the bathroom. Oh joy!

Having the day from hell. Whacked my head on a sticky out bit of wood that the victorians clearly thought was a most excellent architectural feature on my way to work this morning. Narrowly avoided knocking myself out but have a nice gash and a multicoloured egg on my forehead. Met OH and the DDs at puppy school straight from work. Was greeted by DD2s dinner landing on my boots. Arrived home with DD2 whose first request was choclate spread on toast as her tummy was a little bit rumbly. The superstitious would claim these things come in threes and so the third crappy bit of news of the day is the emergency budget. Looks like we loose out on every level. The £1000 increase in the level of taxable income will be negated by the reduction in the threshold for 40% tax so overall we'll pay more tax on OHs earnings. We also lose child tax credit and pay 2.5% more VAT. Oh joy.

Will be having an incredibly short day at work today as DD2 will be home for the day, not that theres anything at all wrong with her now but having puked she has to stay off for 24 hours regardless. Means we can leave the instant the playground gates open which is most excellent news. Have promised her we'll spend the day baking cakes for tomorrows schol fayre which will mean an incredibly long day although hopefully I'll get home before 11pm. Can't face being there any longer.

Have stopped reading bita about the budget. The more I read the more despondant I become. More NI to pay, move tax on fuel more going out and less coming in and the things we do buy getting more and more expensive. Admittedly in our position its just annoying. Its not like we're destitute and can't afford to eat or clothe the children but it does mean that debt repayments will take longer and when we finally get there the wndows for the house will cost more as will the rendering and just about everything else. Its not enough of a hike to make me want to get it all done before the prices go up in January though as it would mean paying £50+ a month more in interest each month for a few years which is likely to be considerably more than the VAT increase we'll pay if we save up to do it.

    Moan over.

Managed to do four loads of laundry yesterday as well as a mamoth tidy downstairs and a teeny weeny bit of vacuuming. Hoping to do as much de tatting today which should see me transforming the welsh dresser and the shelving units into dustable items rather than radom piles of carp wedged into any and every available space. Keep looking at the giant cobwebs and thinking I need to start Fly Ladying again but I need to find enough space to FlyLady first. Perhaps that should be my project for the summer.

Have booked the ferries for the trip to OHs mums and arranged to take the DDs to my parents for a very very quick visit this weekend. Also paid the deposit for DD1 to go to Pony Camp during the summer hols. Just need to work out whan I'm going to manage to do some work over the summer and book the childcare before all the places are taken. OHs boss keeps changing his mind about course dates which is most annoying as OH will be having the DDs on his days off which saves £100 or so in fees but only if hes here to have them.

  • Hi Moo

I've been thinking of Flying again, having spent the last three months or so DIYing instead. The two really don't mix - I either make dust or properly clean dust, but the latter is very pointless when the next day it'll be coated again. But the MIL is visiting in a week and two days, so something will have to be done. SHe'll clean it alla gain anyway, but I'll need to show I'm not a slovenly ho she likes to think I am!

I'm in the very fortunate position of having amother in law who hates me with a passion matched only by her venemous hatred of her son in law. The mucho positive side of this being that shes only ever been here twice. Once for a whopping three hours the week DD2 was born in order to take the obligatory photos of granny holding newborn and prior to that for her not reallly a brothers funeral.... saved her the trip to ID the corpse by doing it myself with a police escort. Note to self: is best not to crack smart !!!! comments about bumping people off when in a confined space with a police officer. Poor bloke thought I was confessing to murder and had thus trapped himself in a very small rapidly moving vehicle with a murderer. Bet a change of undies was required that day. He'd only ever spoken to the woman on the phone and was firmly convinced she was several sandwiches and a picnic basket short of a picnic. No chance of her visiting here ever again. Doesn't get me out of visiting her several times a year though although I dread every back stabbing moment of it.

Today heralds the arrival of the school fayre. Am avoiding my inbox after a barage of truly ridiculous last minute e-mails yesterday.

Spent yesterday afternoon baking as school have another cake based fundraiser for something else tomorrow. Figure 100 buns will do for two children for two events. DD2 had a fab day off. Pretty confident that whatever it was is out of her system so will be sending her today. Shucks... there goes my excuse for carp avoidance. Walked into work yesterday to be greeted by a life size horses head. The sort that wouldn't look out of place in the trophy room of a stately home. Apparently all I have to do is attach it to something so that it doesn't fall over and more importanly so that it can be returned undamaged from whence it came. Laugh? Out loud? Me?... oh yes I did. Not entirely sure how many more ridiculous requests the PTA will attempt today. I suspect it will enter into double figures.

Made the mistake of going into a classroom to shut a window on my way home. Spotted a puddle of multicoloured water aon the floor and made the fatal mistake of investigating. Some incredibly lazy slovenly ho had ingeneously tidied her room ready for new parents to poke around by cramming everything under a display table and drapping it with a tablecloth. This included an improvised bucket brimming with water and dirty paintbrushes. Sadly the object of choice was a dustbin with a crack in the base hence the giant puddle. Left the room dry but rather messy with several wet objects draped over chairs to dry out. No doubt I will not be popular this morning but at a guess marginally more popular than I would have been had I ignored it entirely.

Planning to make my escpae form school fayre prep no later than 11am. Tis the only way to guarantee lunch and dog walking duties are achieved. Need to visit a cashpoint to facilitate the DDs many purchases of random and unnescessary carp. Also have to remember to take in multiple costumes for the many displays they're involved in more crucially than that I also have to remember to watch them. Me think I may meed to locate a watch for the duration. Fingers crossed I can find one with a functional battery.

Am looking forward to the day much like a chap looks forward to his impending vasectomy. Unfortunately this won't involve a little pr!ck, well technically it will but I find it best not to refer to certain parents as such in public.

I survived the school fayre although my body and my wallet are still in a state of shock. Since when do activities at a school fayre cost £3 a go????

    Climbing wall £3
The worlds smallest go-kart track £2.50
    Trampolines with sky harnesses £3
    Rotating tea cups £3
    Mobile play centre £2.50
    Hook a duck £1
and the most heinous crime of them all £1 for 3 goes on the tombola

Don't get me started on food. £2 for a tiny hot dog and an extra 50p for a teaspoon of onions

Needless to say "No" was on repeat on the maternal quote-o-meter. The world has truly gone mad.

Finally got home at 10:30pm having spent over an hour carting the unsold beer inside. Apparently its not on sale or return and so someone has to come up with a cunning plan for shifting on approaching a thousand assorted cans and bottles. Talk about over ordering.

Whinge, whinge, whinge... that said the DDs had a whale of a time, albeit a very brief one. They bought cakes and second hand books and yet more plants and tried a copule of activities. Even so £20 was gone in a little under 20 minutes.

Today will involve dealing with the aftermath in the hopes that some of the teachers stand a chance of teaching today although several classrooms are major disaster zones and at least one is a tad lacking in furniture. Safe to assume I won't clap eyes on the PTA again for quite some time.

Need to fit in a wee spot of packing at some point and remember my dads birthday pressiebefore heading off to visit them tomorrow. Glad I didn't agree to go there tonight as I'm shattered alreday and I've only just got out of bed.

Bet you can't guess how many members of the PTA turned up to help clear up the aftermath of the summer fayre... you'll be amazed... well actually you won't.... six people turned up, stood around chatting, watched the boss and I wash up and then watched us move 40 bales of hay and sweep the playground. One of them helpfully pointed out that next year we need quite a few more parents to help..... reallly.... gosh.... is it really wrong to hope that the woman in question gets huge amounts of big pustulant zits on the end of her nose from all the chocolate she was shovelling down her throat?

GOt home hours later than anticipated. Really can't be arsed to do anything. Haven't even managed to get round to hanging the washing out although I have stuck another few CDs and DVDs on Music Magpie whose payout has reduced quite drastically. Almost everything I listed was 30p. Still better in my pocket than gathering dust unwatched on a shelf. Pretty sure that at age 7 DD2 has outgrown Tomos y tanc A'l Ffrindiau. Will find out for certain in the not too distant future.

Moo have you checked to see if CeX are offering better prices for the things you're magpie'ing (and mm is up to 10% on quidco), I've found that I'm getting better for somethings splitting the orders - although I've a CeX in town so its easy enough to pop in with small numbers of things.
