I hate jobsworths! I wasted four hours yesterday giving a guided tour of the loft space at work to a surveyor who instead of condeming schools water storage tanks and 1960 fire hose reels as being potentially lethal as well as archaic and delapidated decided instead to base his report upon my inability to test a shower on a weekly basis on account of it having all the donated carp for the school fayre dumped under it as the only available bit of storage space in the building. Imbecile. Of course I don't usually keep 200 cans of beer in a shower. I generally find one will suffice and even then it gets diluted by the spray.
Got home to find OH pished as a fart which considering it was only 7pm was rather impresive. Clearly hes taken the nurse literally and has decided to drink his way to a heart attack whilst eating as much fatty artery clogging food as possible to speed the process along. Can't believe hes such a selfish g!t, well actually I can.
Got nothing done yesterday thanks to being stuck at work until lunchtime. Need to go shoppng this morning as the freezer is baren but am only planning on going to Lidl as I'm not in the right frame of mind to do anything more than fly through the door, grab the bare essentials and depart again. Perhaps this is the secret to a very small shopping bill. Only one way to find out.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Escaped from the evil clutches of Lidl £60 lighter with a boot crammed with food. Sadly this is not as remarkable as it sounds. I have a very small boot. Hopefully have 2 weeks worth of bread, a months worth of cheap dog chow for the old dear and lots and lots of very low fat chicken and quorn to feed OH. Does feel a bit like a pointless excrecise if hes hell bent of self destruction but it won't do me or the DDs any harm to eat a little healthier than we do. Sausages seem to feature on the menu a little too often at the mo.
Am grabbing a quick cuppa before continuing my one woman quest to train the ginormous hedges or at least reduce them to a point I can see over the top of them. Tis a a bit pointless living in the most beautiful place in the world if you can't see it from your window. Mind you once I've down that I'll ned to wash the windows..... it really is never ending. Second load of laundry is on the line, need to stick a third in before I start the frivolaties.
OH has phoned in a very jolly mood. Found out today that he got a performance related payrise, one of only two people at his site to be awarded them. Hes most chuffed whilst the other chaps are very very cheesed off.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Avoiding going to bed because I kno I own't sleep. My arms and legs are soooooo itchy its untrue, like having a permanent case of pins and needles and its all the fault of a very dopey pekin who decided that it would be fun to clamber out of chicken land via a very thorny hedge to sit on a clutch of eggs in the middle of a giant patch of super stingy nettles. Hen and 10 eggs have been transferred to a temporary holding pen whilst I shuffle animals around to make space. Clueless when they'll hatch or even if they'll hatch.
Meanwhile was rather late for work when I eventually remembered that thats where I was supposed to be. Hedges annhiliated. Gate posts, dogs nose and most of me paint covered. Remind me never ever ever to tackle anything with a masonry brush without first changing into overalls. I'd forgotten how far the splatter flies.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Turns out the bit OH forgot to mention in yesterdays incredibly brief phone call was the unexpected arrival of a summer bonus. It won't land in his account until the end of July but when it does it will take us sub 10K. Seems an eternity since we were rarely managing to make ends meet on a monthly basis so to hit the 10K mark will be a huge milestone. Menatally being sub 10K will be huge. Just have to remember not to get too carried away with the excitement of it all. More importantly must remember that once we reach that point theres the new roof on the house to think about and the damp proofing of the fireplace and the watertight pebble dashing on the outside of the house and a couple of windows and a replacement voiture for moi to think about in the not so distant future.
Still I have to survive today before that little lot happens and today is Sports Day.... whooppeeee... not.... the place will be over run with parents for the entire day which makes doing anything a nightmare. Before the majority of them get underfoot I need to transport several dozen mats to the field for the oiks to sit on, 300 or so chairs for parents and then theres the small matter of a dozen or so gazeebos to stop the little darlings getting sun stroke. Parents, as usual will be divided into two camps.... those who watch me work and those who assist by grabbing a chair from the pile and putting it in the most awkward place possible. Of course sitting on the finishing line is a great idea.
Started a sweepstake yesterday on the number of children reduced to tears by irate parents who berate them for not trying hard enough. Sad but unfortunately true. The figures are offset by the number of parents who burst into tears of joy and go OTT with hugs when their little darling makes it to the finish line regardless of the race outcome. So 0 would be equal numbers of both whilst + is more angry mums and - is more teary mums. We're easily pleased and more importantly we'll bet on anything.
Some iijot suggested we should have a staff race which meansinstead of floaty see through dresses and sparkly shoes the ladies have to wear PE kit and prepare to get sweaty. Since by that point in the day I'm most definately a parent I get to take mug shots for the school website instead. Such a shame.
Have started upon my quest to lower OHs weight by using stealth tactics, skimmed milk and lots and lots of vegetables. Poor chap. Workingon the basis that if its not in the house he can't eat eat thier is a small sliver of hope that this is achievable of course its rather pointless when he lives on bacon butties at work but a girl can try.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Hi Moo
I appear to be having the same problem with my DH, he went to the hospital yesterday for an appointment re his stomach problems. He has put on 7lbs in 6 weeks!!! (I know most of us do this over Xmas anyay)
He told the doctor that he has changed his diet and we eat healthier blah blah and she said it might take a long time for the body to adjust so it should just fall off soon!! :rotfl:
What he actually neglected to tell her was that we have always eaten healthy but his own diet is abysmal. He doesn't have breakfast or lunch and then eats all evening after a massive tea.
The funniest thing was he told me this and then I caught him eating a twix just as I was serving tea, I did treat him like a child and snatched it off him.
I think it is all these wasted calories that are the problem.
I also suggested he think about exercising more ie walking up to the chickens at night instead of driving (probably exactly the same time but saving petrol/environment and having exercise)!!
Glad you moved the Pekin, you don't want the same problem as before.
We have had a natural hatching of a gosling (instead of an incubator hatching), the problem however is we had 3 geese on about 8 eggs, 1 has taken over the role of mum for the one gosling who looks pretty shocked by all the hissing if we even venture near them.
The 2 ganders have taken to sitting on the floor of the hut to protect them and the other 4 females have been standing nearby wings outstretched hissing for england!
I have put water and chick crumb in the hut by the door but had to risk life and limb for this - not sure how the poor thing will eat or drink anything when it has 7 geese protecting it!!
I will try to get a picture for you!! It is so sweet when it is asleep under mum's wing on her back!!
I did wonder how wild goslings survive because surely no one gives them chick crumb and they must just live on grass?!?

Fianlly remebered I hadn't had dinner at 10pm last night. Its been a mad 24 hours. 5 silkies rehomed, one broody hen happily incubating 10 eggs, 10 more metres of overgrown hedge tamed, both whelie bins overflowing with hedge clippings. Downstairs floors washed and vacuumed. House looks marginally better for it.
Started today with a DooYoo. Need to get breakfast, water DD2s plants, release the hens and turf DD1 out of bed in the next 10 minutes otherwise I'll be late to work for the fourth day in a row. Left early yesterday - shhhh - so that I could collect the hens at a reasonable hour means I have tons and tons and tons to do first thing this morning to remove the last traces of sports day. Also have to stomp on some ridiculous idea the PTA have of persuading the school cook to make 250 christmas puds as a fundraiser. Don't think they have a clue how much work that will entail or how expensive it will be especially as they can buy them in from a commercial producer specialising in fundraising at a reasonable price. Plastic containers alone are 61p without ingredients.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Whoo hoo its the weekend and that means its the only day of the week I can have a lie in as we don't have to be anywhere until 10am... clearly thats why this morning was the one morning that OH decided that 5am athletics were a great way to start the day. Consequently I feel like a brain dead zombie and could happily go back to sleep for a week were it not for the revving of his engine outside our open bedroom windows which briefly woke the DDs who managed to stagger as far as the master boudoir and collapse in a snoring farting heap under my duvet. I gave up and got out of bed. Have bored myself to death clearing an inbox full of football related surveys most of which had closed because they've been there for a few days.
Managed to get tons done yesterday which included pairing an enormous pile of odd socks most of which I'm confident no longer fit anyone. Hoping to make it to the end of term at which point I'm going to chuck out all the DDs formerly white school socks. None of them are even vaguely cose to being white. In fact I'd go as far as to describe them as revolting. Not entirely sure what they do to them but they are beyond salvage. I learnt a long time ago that the most sensible approach was the five for £1 value socks which disintegrate after 4 months of wear which is about the length of time it takes the DDs to wreck them completely anyway.
Finally found the bottom of the laundry pile having done a mahoosive amount of ironing hampered by the four legged fiend who decided that since the wriggling cable from the iron was out of bounds the most sensible place to play was between my feet with a giant cardboard box. At least I knew precisely what she was up to the whole time.
Starting to feel like I'm getting on top of the housework and all the other things that need doing. Of course theres loads and loads that does need doing but I'm making a point of trying to fit in 4 hours a day of house stuff which is making a big difference, especially now that DD1 is being very helpful in the hopes thet she'll be allowed to go to Pony Camp making it her third extra holiday in six months.
Only £2.50 to go until I reach the £50 payout on DooYoo and 45p to go to Pure Profiles £25... not that that one will happen anytime soon as its taken 4 years to get this far. Still its another £75 in the fairly near future.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
" ... 4 hours a day of house stuff..." ye gods woman, that's terrifying.
Totally agree re the cheap school socks though - I suspect that my DD removes her shoes the minute I leave her at the school gate & she then proceeds to role play at being impoverished & consequently shoeless bumpkin all day !0 -
Spent yesterday afternoon transforming the stagnant containers of slime into sparklingly clean fish tanks. Hoping to persuade them to reduce it to one big tank instead of two as no one seems to be bothering with them. Did more washing, even more tidying and finally cashed out of Pure Profile.
Broody hen is bored of being broody. Will give her another couple of days just to make sure and then will put her back in with the other hens.
Spent today shooting. Managed to get my personal best. Am now completely kettled but have loads to do in preparation for tomorrow.
Came home to find a cheque book from the Halifax on the doorstep. Since we don't get post on a Sunday I can only assume it was delivered elsewhere in error. Funny thing is they have yet to request a copy of my signature so writing cheques could be very interesting.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Must remember to go to the dentist at lunchtime. Have left myself post it notes all over the house and the car to make super duper sure I don't forget.
OH is contemplating going to the Cheshire County Show for the day but doesn't want to go on his own. Not entirely sure how he plans to get around that one.
My plans for the day involve watering plants so that they don't keel over and die, doing as little as possible at school and returning home to tackle the house. Again. Two days of everyone at home and the place is unbelievably bad. Ruthlessly chucking stuff out seems to be the only solution. Although as fast as I turf stuff out other tat seems to migrate downstairs to fill its place. Hopefully I can cram another couple of carrier bags worth of stuff in the wheelie bin before it departs tomorrow.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
