The parentals are due in approximately five hours. Both DDs have wet beds which means an awful lot more laundry to do. Had to make an emergency trip to B&Q last night for a light-tube after the one in the kitchen decided to di. Fifty quid later we also have an outside light, a new builders trowel and some wood filler. Furthers detours resulted in new riding boots for DD1.

Spent the afternoon busy doing nothing. Or at least whatever I did do made no difference whatsoever. The evening was spent chaufeuring DD1 to and from a party whilst attempting to help DD1 with her homework and still keep a straight face. Wikipedia is clearly not the best place to identify brass instruments especially when DD2 is decribing them as like a giant seashell with a horse hay net stuck over it .... that'll be this then.

Liberated a giant pork joint from the freezer yesterday for tonights dinner with the parents. SHould be enough surplus to get another weeks worth of meals from it assume I freeze it before OH and the DDs start making sandwiches with it. Also need to whip up a couple of dozen buns and cakes and wot not for tomorrows end of year awards ceremony at the riding school.

OH is feeling more enthusiastic about things and is currently trawling E-bay for a vehicle vaguely suitable for doing the Dakar Challenge. Its turning out to be considerably harder than expected to source a left hand drive Lada 4x4 with some slim chance of it passing an MOT. Still at least its keeping him out of my hair and giving him something to get excited about. Hes only been sober for 3 weeks but its made a huge difference in his attitude towards things which has made life far more pleasant for the rest of us too. Remind me I said this when one or more moss covered dilapidated oil leaking wrecks materialise on what little space is left on the drive.

Washing on. Spuds planted. Vaguely toyed with the idea of DD1 joining the spuds having woken up in a truly obnoxious mood. Expanded the planned veg plot to the adjacent bed simply because there were more spuds than available ground space. 3kg of seed potaotes goes a very long way. Now have to wait until the end of June to harvest them although they're occupying the space earmarked for courgettes which will need to go in before then. Might have to harvest a few as new potaotes to create enough space. Will figure that out a bit nearer the time since the courgette seeds are still languishing in their packet its not a problem with any sort of urgency and based upon the eroneous assumption that the hound from hell won't unearth them in the meantime.

The washing up beckons. Would far rather be outside enjoying the sun. Life always seems better when its sunny out.

    Aha,

so jogging around imaginary island is for marathon training purposes.

Well then, I boldly quit as I have no intention of ever doing that ... unless there's a Gordon holding a large Johnny Depp with a lemon at the other end ... or vice versa. Full credit to you though :T

The Dakar challenge is much more my kind of thing. I cant run in anything but trainers :( but can drive in 4 inch wooden wedge heeled sandals. They'd double up as fire wood too :rotfl:

I can't run period. The presence or absence of trainers makes no difference at all.

Yesterdays visit from the parentals was fab. Granny assisted DD2 with baking cakes and gingerbread men even finding the time to make her own minature male genetalia which DD1 decreed looked like a cow without legs or a very wierd frog. Boy is that child in for a shock.

DD2 showed Grandad round her veg patch and enlisted his help in weeding. It was all very laid back and we had a great time. OH most definately did not and went out of his way to be a complete git spending as much time as possible on the PC and left the dinner table half way through dinner to sit on the sofa and sulk. Fortunately my parents ignored this and eventually left when the DDs went for thier bath at which point OH drank the majority of the bottle of vino purchased earlier in the week. He managed to be civil to me all evening but theres an inch left in the bottom of the bottle which may well be an excuse for a wee tipple tonight. Am hoping that he'll see it as a blip and chuck it in tonights gravy or just chuck it down the sink. I'm most tempted to do that myself but can see him hitting the roof that hes being treated like a child.... hes certainly behaving like one.

Plans for today are more hectic than normal and involve being in three places at once. Have to cram in half a day at work doing something productive quite what I've yet to decide on. Have a stack of baking to take to the pony school BBQ and another trip to the vets as well. Also have an armchir thats 4 foot deep in clean laundry and more on the airer and yet another load in the washing machine.

Am waiting for Santanders tediously slow transfer service to bung last Fridays wage back into my current account so that I can pay several bills which are due between bank holidays. Need to get thm done extra early since I get the feeling the UK will be run on skeleton staffing levels for the next few weeks and pretty much everything will take longer than normal.

Still unsure whether OHs bro. is arriving towards the end of the week. Equally nothings been confirmed about OHs jolly so don't have a clue when he'll depart or return. I really couln't care less either way but it would be nice to know so that I can plan some stuff for the DDs.

Can't understand why. It isn't as if these aren't things that he does with the DDs on occasion. Is this a long standing issue with your parents?

YOur previous posts had me gently laughing this morning, but then read this one and was pretty:mad: on your behalf. Such a shame that he broke his run of sobriety. Can you talk to him about it or would that just result in more drinking.

I needed the laugh this morning, as am having to fly back to the UK as my dad is very sick....:(. Not the way I wanted to come back....

I hope your OH has realised that he behaved badly yesterday and has chosen to pour the remains of the bottle down the sink himself.

But don't let him forget what a long way he has come in the last 3 weeks and what a great achievement that is so that he can see that it is not worth seeing this as anything other than a blip.

    Fingers crossed for you.....

I second what Maty says. It is just a blip. After all this kind of thing happens when people are on diets and then have some chocolate or something. Yes you both need to acknowledge the behaviour when your parents were there but why did he act like that and THEN drink the wine. Is it is way of punishing himself do you think? Sorry you have to deal with it but it is a long road.
Chev, I really hope that your Dad is ok. Have a safe journey.

No vino consumed last night but the remenants of the bottle are still on the worktop which is progress of a sort. Normally it would be consumed simply because it was there.

OH claims to have taken himself off for some space to avoid saying something to my parents that he'd regret. Quite what or why he didn't say. Don't think it was anything to do with the DDs though. Considering the things that seem to make him fly off the handle it could have been something as daft as stirring his cuppa in the wrong direction having used the same spoon in a cup containing sweetener. Whatever, he was he was back to his new and improved self yesterday.

Spent the majority of yesterday in the sun painting sheds and fences and generally pottering about outdoors. Bunged cement in a few of the craters that have appeared in the playground thanks to the many huge trees randomly planted throughout. Got lots of itty bitty things done and am planning to continue the outdoors theme by cobbling together a coldframe from whatever I can find lying around. Also need to build a giant box with hinged lid for the local sailing club but am putting this off as long as possible since my woodwork is most definately not up to the standard the boss thinks its at.

Made it to the BBQ a tad later than everyone else but in plenty of time to scoff my way through a vast array of delectables even managing to have thirds of the most mouthwateringly delicious carrot cake imaginable. Assisted the younger children with a treasure hunt and was most gobsmacked when DD1 won the award for most improved rider, clearly not as gobsmacked as she was because she had to be told twice by the instructor that it was her and not one of the other children of the same name. She was still grinning at bedtime and went to sleep with her rosette attached to her pajamas.

At the end of a very hectic day we returned to the vets with the hound from hell whose pad is healing nicely. So nicely in fact that the dressing has been removed and we have instructions to leave it free to air under supervison but not to allow her to lick it. We also have to bathe it four times a day using cotton wool in circular motions and then dry it and apply cream and a sock all without it getting dirty or slobbered over. Considering that the hound was slobbering over it in the vets when the art of circular bathing was being demonstrated this was reviewed and the latest cunning plan involves dunking paw in bowl of dilute wound cleaner before drying with kitchen towel, slapping cream on and bunging in a sock as fast as humanly possible whilst constantly feeding doggy treats. Of course whenever the sock gets wet or dirty or shreded by the daemon dogs teeth this has to be repeated. We've already gone through a dozen socks since yesterday. Its a great way of getting rid of the stuff in the odd sock bag though. Back again at the end of next week for another check up assuming all goes well. Back earlier if I'm not happy.

Have a lazy start to the day today since I'm not going to school until after I've abandoned the DDs at the riding school. Need to visit a cash point on the way and a plumbers merchant on the way back. Am also wondering if I can get away with building my box at home at some point next week which would mean I had all the stuff I needed at hand rather than trying to improvise with schools stuff. Would also mean I could do it as and when which would save a few hours vacation time for some future holiday rather than using it just because I haven't got enough hours in this holiday. Can't see my boss giving a monkeys as long as its done by the end of the holidays. Will be using this as an excuse to visit the big B&Q which is conveniently situated some 1/4 mile from Hobbycraft.
