    Morning fellow nutters!

Still haven't planted the potatoes but instead I washed the kitchen floor twice and all the other floors downstairs and the fronts of the kitchen cabinets and cupboards and everything else within four feet of the floor which is incidentally the highest level of splatter that a bleeding paw wound can achieve whilst a rather over excited hound is leaping up and down whilst attempting to tell you that somethings wrong but is far too excited to let you see what it is. Ended up with her confined in the kitchen with the DDs feeding her a constant stream of dog treats whilst I bathed her paw in order to determine that it was indeedy rather serious although the volume of blood is not always an indication of this because leg and foot injuries on dogs always tend to gush. Turned out she'd managed to remove a small flap of skin from her pad on the rear toe where it joins the foot. Packed this out with gauze and lots of padding to alleviate some of the pressure but within minutes the bandage was soaking wet so plan B involved a phone call to the duty vet followed by a 40 minute drive.

Had to sedate her to let the vet get a good look. Removed the loose bit of skin and then sealed the missing patch with the medical equivalent of superglue before applying lots of v. thick padding and sticky bandages in a rather fetching desert camo pattern. Brought her round enough to send home but also to guarantee she slept all afternoon to give it time to clot. Have many instructions ranging from the daily feeding of antibiotics to the fitting of a waterproof sock concocted Blue Peter style from an IV bag and bandage. Admitedly the vet did snigger a lot as he suggested it came on and off as she went in and out although after he'd demonstrated fitting it on a partially sedated dog who still managed to lean against him knocking him over and followed through by whacking him in the nuts with her nose he agreed that maybe leaving it on all day was the less stressful option.. whether thats for less stressful for her or me wasn't overly clear.

She was most fab through out. No growling or aggression at all which you'd normally see even with the most placid of animals purely because they're in pain and you're making it worse. She was far too busy trying to open a drawer with her teeth which turned out to be the one all the treats were kept in.

Spent the remainder of the afternoon playing PC games with the DDs because she'll happily settle at the PC desk and ignore everything else going on. The dressing is a little more blood soaked than I'd like this morning but its dry which is a good indication that the bleeding has stopped. Need to phone my vets to book her in for a dressing change mid week. Its days like that which make me most glad I haven't cancelled my pet insurance. I did consider bunging the £60s worth of monthly payments into an animal emergency pot but yesterdays antics would have wiped that out rather swiftly. As it was I've only had the excess to pay. Am now £75 skinter than anticipated.

In between the mayhem I did manage to wash all the DDs bedding including their duvets plus another three loads of laundry all of which is now dry. The laundry basket was empty v. briefly but the DDs have since tidied their bedrooms. Will be vacuuming up the dog hair and an array of Polly Pocket accessories at some point today. Completely forgot to do any baking so threw together jelly in the ad breaks whilst watching HellBoy with OH. DD1s birdhouse has finally been attached to a tree which is one more thing off a windowsill. Have three days to go before my parents descend. Eek.

I know I shouldn't giggle. But you paint such brilliant word pictures that I couldn't help it. You definitely WOULD make money if you made this into a book somehow...

Having her jumping around would have been very bad both for her and for you. Sensible vet!

I love it. And with the amount of going and coming the dog does normally you would be doing nothing but putting the silly thing on and off ALL DAY. Like you don't have anything else to do!

Nice one on not cancelling the dog insurance. Certainly better being only the £75 excess skint rather than alot more....

You are worried ABOUT NOT BAKING when you have had that lot going on and done that much washing. You silly thing!

DD1s birdhouse has finally been attached to a tree which is one more thing off a windowsill. Have three days to go before my parents descend. Eek.

I don't suppose having a hound with an injured foot is a good enough excuse for delaying said visit......Good luck with keeping the house clean in the mean time!

Ahhh nooo you misunderstood the lack of baking itself was not problematic more the random 9:30pm thought of ooh !!!!!!it what am I going to bung in the demonic daughters lunch boxes... having raided the cupboards last week for the same reason and sent them with biscuits for snack (on the banned list at school) and boomerang apples... the ones that visit school on Monday and again on Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and which by Friday are rather bruised and battered and fit only for feeding chickens but visit school any way if only to fill a bit of space in the lunchbox. The cupboards are crammed with food just not the sort of stuff that makes for child friendly lunchboxes.

The hound meanwhile is making the most of this and has mastered the art of the sorry looking dog with the big sad eyes much like Droopy in the hopes that someone will liberate somthing tasty from the fridge to cheer her up. Unfortunately I keep catching her playing with her football in the garden and chasing the cats when miraculously the limp disappears.

Parents will only be here briefly on Thursday and again on Sunday. We're the equivalent of a free motorway service station. They'll pop in, grab a cuppa and lunch, visit the facitilites and then continue on to the mid-Wales coast for the weekend. Must conjure up a 60th birthday card and gift by then for them to take back with them.... wonder if Flying Fresian can work wonders on her day of decluttering...... Hint Hint!!!!

Tis truly amazing... many many thanks.... of course I like it!!!!! its far nicer than any of the cards I looked at in ye olde village card shop come knitting emporium and purveyor of all things little old lady. Indeed its the only shop I've ever been in where the Tena Laydee is nestled next to the min tins of Heinz baked beans. You never know quite what you're going to find whilst in there, nor quite how long its been there. There are shoelaces whose original price tag ends in a d and which have been repriced on several dozen occassions since.

Spent yesterday in a whirlwind of domestic drudgery. Vacuumed upstairs, did a couple of loads of laundry and sorted the clean stuff before attacking the ironing mountain. Still have the shirts to do but have left the ironing board up in the hopes that OH takes the hint. Did tons of washing up and then got sidetracked by a book thus terminating all thoughts of domesticity.

The DDs spent the evening at one of the local farms mucking out their piglets, all thirty of them. They've had a great time even remembering to cahnge out of their school shoes first. Issuing them with a mobile phone seems to be working since we now get updated to say they've arrived, they're leaving or more often they're running v. late and have forgotten all about coming home. Much to DD1s disgust we keep checking the call log and the address book to make sure shes not sending texts or running out of credit sending daft messages to friends at school having witnessed a group of kids at the last birthday party texting each other from the opposite side of the room. Have to endure another of these this weekend. DD1 has a far more eventful social life than I do.

Today is Eco Day and so I am spending the entire day at school doing random things ranging from jewellery making to birdhouse building and a gazillion things in between. Have arranged for the cleaners to come in on overtime to clean the new toilets as the builders finish with them. Two are ready with the prmoise of the third by the end of the day and the fourth on Thrusday just as school shuts for three weeks which will give me ample time to repair the two loos that have broken and need dismantling in order to repair them. Oh joy. Also have several holes in the playground to patch and a shed to paint plus whatever else the boss comes up with. Need to find enough stuff to fill 35 hours otherwise I'm stuck cleaning..... will be avoiding that like the plague although I still have to clean holiday club but can do that in 30 minutes providing they haven't done any form of craft.
