In case you've not been on to my thread today, Mr F told his sister to start looking for a place to live :D

I suspect that her having a new boyfriend who she's clearly schtupping in the spare room had more impact on him than my distress, but the overall effect will be the same :D

Have arrived home to a blissfully empty house and a worktop covered in sufficient left overs to rustle up a v. tasty meatless roast dinner by which I mean I'm going to heap lots of roast tatties and parsnips onto a plate and treat them like they're humungous chips..... v. naughty but v. tasty and far better than cooking.

Don't be sorry Chev, theres always a way of getting through to someone even if its not the most obvious route. Telling OH he drinks too much and turns into a willy wonker had negligable effect whereas informing him that I wasn't going to partake of the horizontal tango whilst his behaviour was unacceptable seems to be working. Hes still drinking far more than I'd like but at least hes only buying a bottle a day which is a third of his previous consumption. Still far far too much but he did voluntarily go without on Thursday which is a minor achievement and his behaviour is improving.

He and the DDs returned from the new martial arts class considerably earlier than anticipated. It seems OH injured his ank;e at some point in the day and could only watch whilst the DDs joined in. They're both keen to go again and more importantly OH seems quite enthusiastic about taking them which is just as well because theres no way I can. Hes planning on watching them do a junior class and then hoping they behave whilst unsupervised in a secure waiting area so that he can go to the adult class. Am most surprised by this as he hasn't done any exercise since we got married despite insisting he needed a bike and more recently a set of now very dusty weights. Am so glad I muttered rather vocally when he suggested the giant weights bench with pulleys and wot not.

Spent my blissfully peaceful evening curled up under a blanket with a book. Didn't have the energy to Wii.

Will phone the riding school later to see if lessons are on because the wind is still howling round the house. Had to close the school playground yesterday after panes of glass from a neighbours greenhouse left the frame and flew 40 feet in the air before crash landing and shattering. Decided it was too dangerous to risk clearing it up yesterday so have that to look forward to on Monday morning.

Got a £10 free spend from Thompson and Morgan along with a voucher for free seeds meaning I only have to pay £2.25 postage. Need to sit down and figure out what if anything we fancy growing this year and whether its actually cheaper to buy the 39p packets from Lidl although the stuff on offer is usually marginally more interesting and I vaguely remember them being on Quidco.

Completely forgot about shuffling money so am now in the red although fortunately the interest free part of the red. Need to sort that out asap although I appear to have filed the relevant passwords in a very very safe place, so safe in fact that I can't find the sodding things. Meh.

Got the monthly statements through. Things have taken a dramatic slide in the wrong direction. Fortunately thats only a temporary glitch caused by a lack of overtime, the x-mas spends catching up with me and the unfortunate appearance of two months worth of credit card bills in the same period. This means February should be a minmalistic month as most of the payments have already cleared. Does feel like a major kick up the bum though, you let things slide just a bit and you're suddenly back on the slippery downward slope.

well i guess an improvement in drinking behaviour is better than nothing.

didn't realise that the weather was so poor over there. We have been rather focussed over here on the terrible cat 5 cyclone that hit Queensland yesterday

Fortunately this is nothing like a cyclone, not even a baby one although going anywhere has been v. interesting as there are trees down all over the place. The shed roof has decided to depart overnight and the internet is intermittent at best as the phone cables are being battered about. Mind you intermittent phone lines are nothing in comparrison to the random loss of electricity thats getting more and more frequent. Have unearthed the stove top kettle in anticipation of it getting considerably worse and have a stack of blankets at the ready just in case I need to wrap up the fishtank. I forsee an afternoon of Monopoly by candlelight being on the cards.

the monopoly by candleight sounds fun, but maybe only if the hound from hell, is in puppy palace. could be bad otherwise! Wow to yo losing roofs. Still never ceases to amaze me that I can 'talk' to someone on the other side of the world in a matter of seconds via the interweb. No way would I have thought that possible when I was my DS1's age (9)

Way way back in the distant past chatting to someone on the otherside of the world meant having a pen pal and relying upon a parent to remember to post the letter. Responses could take weeks or even months. Now people get impatient if they haven't had a reply the same day. Oh how things have changed. I still get more excited about an unexpected letter than I do an e-mail though.

Rather predictably riding lessons were cancelled, theres too much debris flying round the fields to risk it. Made apricot jam instead but could only find recipes for dried or fresh apricots so have improvised rather a lot. The end result isn't bad which is just as well because thers a dozen jars of it.

    Note to self:

Chunkily chop 3kg tinned apricots, chuck syrup from tin into mahoosive pan add 3 grated apples and 100g fresh ginger. Boil. Add 7 cups sugar and 3/4 cup lemon juice. Wait an eternity for it to reach setting point.

Won't be making marmalade this weekend since I don't have enough jars. Probably just as well because I still don't have any cupboard space.

Off to deal with the aftermath of two children making jam.

Kitten came a calling in the middle of the night but since he fidgets so much I got out of bed, manouvered my way around dog#1 and then promptly tripped up over dog #2 walloping my arm on the radiator and then crash landing rather spectacularly in a heap in the doorway. Now have a large gash in my arm which is also very swollen and a teeny bit clunky with a vague feeling of pins and needles in my fingers. Hoping the pins and needles disappear as the swelling goes down. Its not painfull so am hoping thats a good sign.

Wind seems to have died down a fair bit overnight which means I can get outside and attempt to repair some of the damage and clear up some of the debris. Seem to have aquired a lot of rubbish from the farm across the fields as well as an awful lot of carrier bags.

OH surprised me last night by taking himself off for a wlk in the dark. Turns out he walked as far as the village shop for a second botttle after I'd demolished half the first one. Theres me thinking that the button flying off his trousers and the seam splitting on the same day had inspired him to get some excercise and do something about his rapidly expanding waistline. At least hes going to go to the martial arts class and has bought tracksuit bottoms which required a family outing to Mr Ts. Have stocked up on bread and fruit and sugar plus a couple of tins of instant marmalade in readiness for a spot of marmalade making. Spent £30 but will hopefully ward off a trip to a supermarket for another week.

Started reading Kathryn Stocketts "The Help" last night. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it half as much as I am. Its certainly shaping up to be the best thing I've read recently.

Not planning to leave the house at any point today which is just as well as OH has taken my car to work. Hoping to get some tidying up done starting with the kitchen as every bit of worksurface is covered in something. Also need to go and investigate the tumble drier as it turns out sticking martial arts uniforms in them in a bit of a no-no. Am unsure whether this results in a lot of ironing or a muchly shrunken uniform or both - wish they'd include washing instructions with these things.
