Hi moo, have been waiting for your verdict on "Her Fearful Symmetry", I also was very disapointed with it, kept reading it by saying "its going to get better, its going to get better" sadly it just went downhill the more you read.
Great shame as I thought 'Time Travellers Wife" was a wonderful book.....Its definatly on my ever growing list of favourite books..

Have you read "Room" by Emma Donoghue?..........a great book that leaves you wanting more in my opinion..........

    back to lurking..........and reading

Never heard of Emma Donoghue. Will have to see if the miracle workers in the local library can obtain it from library HQ. The local ibrary isn't bad but 50% of the adult section is huge type and once you've discarded the chick-lit theres not much left on the shelves that I haven't already read. Fortunately school fayres are normally a v. good place to stockpile literature.

shove up and pass a glass of vino. I really fancy a nice glass of rouge.
I wont bother with the book then. If both you and Shavla (hello Shavla) were disappointed I am sure that I would be too. Do either of you go into Firewalkers Avid Readers book club thread? I started with good intentions but never seem to get the time to find the books that they are reading.
I have just bought a (new to me) Harlen Coben book from the charity shop. Havent started it yet. If you like easy reading books that dont take a lot of thinking (you know chic lit for those nights when you are braindead but still need to read) then Cecelia Aherne is pretty good. I just finished the Book of Tomorrow.

eta - I have a couple of hers if you would like me to post them up. Book of Tomorrow and The Gift I think.

On the nights I'm braindead I reread Terry Pratchetts, in moments of sheer desparation I'll read chick-lit, but thats usually because the stuff remaining on the shelf doesn't appeal. A case of it look interesting at the time but isn't something I actually want to sit down and loose myself in. Harlen Coben was a little odd and very samey.

Thanks for the offer to post them up but perhaps hanging onto them for the Great North-Walian MSE Bookswap would be a better idea that way we can spend the postage on beer, assuming the OHs can be dragged along to drive.

ps. Tis a v. nice glass of vintage rouge thanks to Mr Ts latest half price offers.

Oh, I'm really disappointed that both readers of Audrey N's new book don't like it :( I was waiting for something new of hers to come out as I was sure I'd love it!!!!!

I really like Maggie O'Farrell, her best was After You'd Gone, I still can't read it without staying up insanely late in order to read it right through!

I shall look out for Emma Donoghue though!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Dont want to hijack the thread but just wanted to say again that "Room" is well worth the read....I havnt come across the auther before but by chance had read an online review and on my next monthly or so visit to the "city" it was there in the bookshop...
The next time I was in town I had to buy it in Hebrew for dd2 who also loves to read but as i read in english and she reads in Hebrew we have a lot of books the same...
I live in the middle of nowhere in Israel and books are my number one vice and Im never happy then when I can come from a trip with 3,4,5 new books to read.......
I could spend a fortune on Amazon but try and do so but not very often as with the postage I might just as well pay the higher price here........

Cherisong- I think I will go look for Firewalkers thread..thanks

make up......if you want to pm your address then i will send you "Her Fearful Symmetry" and then you can offload it on to someone else.......

Talk about bizarre. I've just arrived home from work to find a man on a ladder halfway up to my roof. Apparently hes here to fix my tv aeiral... only I hadn't called anyone. Clearly announcing my arrival home with "what the !!!! do you think you're doing?" is the last thing the chap expected. Phase two of my greeting involved the opening of the front door at which point both dogs were extremely over excited and v. bouncy aand when they noticed the ladder v. barky too. The four legged fiend even managed a most excellent deep throaty growl. Poor chap was thusly stranded half way up a ladder attempting to explain that he was really here to replace my aerial. Cue several very sarcastic comments from me. It didn't help that the van he'd arrived in was unlogoed. Although the appearance of two of his companions was a little unnerving. Turns out Huw had phoned to ask him to do it. I'm not entirely sure the anticipated resonse from me was "who the !!!! is huw?" Turns out Huw lives half a mile away at the other end of the road and has only just moved in. Oops.

Have had an interesting morning. School honks. Although the drains are now clear the lingering aroma did not want to depart despite opening every door and window in that part of the building.

Detoured via a friends for a cuppa on the way home. Exchanged eggs for a bag of cooking apples, still have several gazillion in the fridge but planning to use last nights surplus rice to do egg fried rice for the DDs. Friend is a superstar. Shes off to be tortured for a week by her mother in law but is detouring home via Approved Foods so I've e-mailed her with a mini order... twenty quids worth of stuff I didn't know I needed until I started perusing the many bery cheap delights on offer. Stuff is so ridiculously cheap its rather difficult not to get carried away. Where else would you get 6kg of tinned apricots for £3. Apricot jam making is definately on the agenda.

House work really should be on the agenda but since its lunchtime already I'm going to chow first and do domesticated things afterwards.

hijack away - it saves me rambling away to myself.

Books are one of my many vices, I love to curl up in a quiet corner and read, unfortunatley I'm so good at doing this that OH often turns out th light plunging me into darkness. I also have a habit of being very late for things because I get a bit too engrossed. I'm fortunate in that neither of the DDs have shown any interest in adult novels yet although DD2 is slowly wading her way through Harry Potter, however thats far too complicated for DD1 who would rather just watch the film.

Had cheese and pickle toasties for lunch then gave in and tackled the laundry mountain. After an hour of folding stuff up and carting it upstairs I now have a laundry free armcahir. Even ironed the stuff that it was impossible to get away with not ironing. Have done most of the washing up but ran out of space for the last couple of bits so will do those after dinner tonight. Haven't ventured into the bathroom and am out of time to do so this afternoon - aw shucks - which means I've got that to look forward to tomorrow.

The postie kindly delivered this months Cross Stitcher magazine which will give me something to browse through tonight whilst the daughters pop in and out like yo-yos with all manner of excuses for not being able to sleep in their own beds. Just getting to sleep is exhausting at the mo.

Hi Moo, dunno about you but I'm getting a bit fed up with the magazine; never seems to be much in it that appeals to me anymore - although since I have zero time for stitching atm it doesn't really make much difference!

You've reminded me to cancel my subscription anyway, which I meant to do before this latest mag came out, so thank you for that little nudge :T
