Good luck today. Lots of redbull consuming I would expect. You do make your job sound busy but lots of fun. I have job envy.

Whooo hooo. Never thought I'd be grateful that my delightful daughters were snot monsters but having them home tucked up infront of the fire with OH was the perfect excuse to abandon ship at 7:30 and head for home. By that point in the day everything that needed doing had been done and school was in the capable and surprisingly sober hands of the boss which given the number of empty wine bottles in evidence took considerably more will power than several members of staff. Fortunately the worst offenders were the part timers who were either there on days off or finished at lunchtime so didn't actually need to stay sober.

Rather amazingly things went swimmingly well. By 11:15am we were standing around waiting for the firs tof the diners to arrive in a bit of a calm before the storm lul. Obvioulsy the diners turned up marginally before the classroom tables that they were eating at which caused a bit of a crush in the corridor but returning the diners from whence they came resolved this especially when they were spotted performing the alternative version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer complete with actions. Incidentally its v. difficult to keep a straightface when confronted with an Ugg Boot wearing fashion diva impersonating Pinocchio..... I felt it only right to wait for them to complete the entire song. Twice. Before telling them dinner could eat at which point most of the staff and a good hundred or so children had gathered behind them.

Rather surprisingly things went swimmingly, apart from a plate shortage and a lack of biscuits after the infants were discovered eating several biscuits and both types of pudding rather than choosing one of the three options. Improvised rather quickly by slapping on the mixer and baking a muffin mountain to feed the juniors with ice cream. 45 minutes to feed 250 children is a new personal best. Cook was in a state of shock at this point. Next folowed a four course meal for the teachers and classroom assistants which gave us a chance to catch up on the washing up. Poor dishwasher couldn't keep up with the volume of stuff. Finally got my lunch at something approaching 3pm but made up for the wait by sampling the fudge and the mince pies and the iced bicuits, buns and muffins before partaking of theree types of gateau and a cheese cake. You'll be most relieved to know I declined the After Eight mints with coffee, couldn't possibly have eaten anymore at that point.

Spent the afternoon bumbling around perfecting the art of vacuuimng in the dark since the electricians had cut power to one of the corridors. Still at least it looks like we'd done a pretty thorough job, at least until the light went on and the glitter was visible.

Was most glad to be home last night. Had an egg and chip butty and a large glass of wine manageing to be in bed by 8:30 which is a new personal best.

Need to deal with the aftermath of cinema night first thing since the mop bucket was in evidence last night which means the PTA purchased cans of fizzy drinnk again. Have to get all the sticky stuff off the lfoor and the floor dry by 8:30. Yeah. Not going to happen. Then I need to get all the chairs reconfigured only to put them away for the afternoon so that someone else can get them out tonight. My plans also involve running away asap as the kitten is due at the vets for his innoculations at some point this morning.

OH spoke to his mum yesterday to organise an internal room away from any noise for us and the hound from hell in the hopes that a lack of distraction will mean we get a good nights sleep. Shes also going to bung the DDs in a room of their own which means they can be sent to bed when tired and left alone until morning. Thats two less things to worry about.

Meanwhile its now less than a week until payday. Rather suspiciously I still have money in the bank which is most excellent and its likely to remain there as neither of the DDs are well enough to go riding this weekend. Equally means theres no chance of me going shopping for food and OHs x-mas pressie.... although since I'm still clueless thats really not going to make a lot of difference.

    Thank you very muchly!

Meanwhile I'm home considerably later than anticipated on account of managing to find a traffic jam en route. Normally I'll pass the odd cyclist, a menagerie of day glo ramblers and the odd horse but today there were other vehicles on the road. Tis most unheard of although it turns out that this is due to a mamoth multi-vehille pile up which has shut the only major road in the vicinity with the jams extneding as far back as the motorway in Englandshire which is a v. long way indeedy. Phoned OH at work to pass on the news. Hes staying put till after lunch in the hopes things are moving by then. Means I need to leave for the vets considerably earlier than planned although since the vet comes from that direction theres every chance he'll be late too.

Both DDs attempted to persuade me that they needed today off school but neither is that ill. DD1 helpfully pointed out that it was all a conspiracy and I was only making her go because parents want peace. Apparently if she lived in a childrens home they'd let her have the day off. Don't ya just love the Tracy Beaker generation. She'd have an epi if I told her that when I was a nipper I aspired to be like Fatty, Enid Blytons problem solving zitty teenager who seemed to do wonderous things by scoffing lots of cake and generally being v. nosey whilst managing to stay up late every night and go wandering off into the back of beyond without his parents being outraged or cutting off his never ending pocket money supply.

40 very unproductive minutes later I'm still vegetating at the PC. Have decided I am going to purchase a knitted or a jersey tunic, not just any tunic though this one needs to be either black or charcoal with a square hem and an absence of frills, trims or pockets. Plus I'll need jeggings or leggings or chunky tights or whatever the heck it is that one wears underneath it to stop the wind gusting up and freezing ones frou frou. Then I'll need a long cardi (without pockets or humungous buttons or a belt) to go over the top on the basis that it will be chuffing freezing at OHs mothers. Just need to find the things cos I'm having no luck whatsoever on-line. Then I need to try them on and hope to god I don't look like a moose in them or a granny tranny.

So I've spent an hour in a village clothes shop. The one that caters for everyone. Evans stuff on the left, granny suits and nylon trousers with the sewn in crease at the far end, JLS hoodies at the front and sandwiched between the maternity wear and the skin tight skinny jeans a vast array of one size fits all (providing "all" is a size 10-14) knitwear. Tried on pretty much everything in the shop that was vaguely plausible. Think it helps that it was a v. quiet day although the v. patient owner was trying hard not to groan with laughter at the end of it. We discovered the most obvious, look flattering on anyone things look hideous on me whist the oddest things look pretty good but need to be tried on with leggings and girlie boots because they looked v. odd with my manky jeans and steel toe-tector builders boots. Not overly convinced about the 4" wide 1980's belt that seems to be obligatory with everything but did see one jumper I really liked but its more of a dress than I was after. Will take boots and leggings and children with me to provide second and third opinions... tomorrow... hopefully.

Riding lessons now cancelled, won't be there again until January so will need to drop by with an x-mas gift (yet to be purchased) at some point in the near future.
