Thanks Soolin, I really appreciate your response. It's a real eye-opener reading these forums and I'm amazed at the volume of sales people have. I don't do high volume sales (I'm just selling my stuff... .slowly) so couldn't justify tying up lots of money in stamps that might not get used for ages, so think I'll just go with taking the odd package to the post office when something of my clutter sells.
Interesting reading threads about how other people work - not sure I'll ever have the nerve to have an eb@y shop as that place frightens me with its fees, rules etc. Amazon suits me fine as it's simpler
Thanks again Soolin - I really appreciate your input, not just to my question, but your various posts on all things eb@y related. Have a lovely Easter.0 -
Happy Easter to you as well.

Gosh has anyone seen the new International signed for price? I hadn't noticed it as I don't use it but it's gone up to £4.25 plus an additional £2.50 for insurance if the item is over £41.
Airsure has only gone up to £4.90.
I'm wondering in fact if this might help my overseas sales as a couple of my competitors still charge for International signed for and the £4.25 extra on their postage is going to knock them out of the water and leave me with the buyers.
Interestingly sandard parcels hasn't gone up at all?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Given that clothing catergories are limited to £4 I'm no longer sure how to sell jackets and coats at anything other than a loss really. Ho hum...

You can have a kilo 2nd class still for £2.84 and for £4.41 you can have a 2kg standard parcel so you'd only have to add 41p to start price to cover the parcel.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It kinda benefits me in a way though as luckily I'm on packetpost prices now but I would have said £4.99 would have been a better limit. It kinda rules out any other postage service ebay has been trying to promote as well as making casual sellers less likely to post securely.
I know I should be ruthless and say 'good for me' but for everyday private sellers it puts them at risk of tricksters somewhatAre you a Thrifty Beatnik?0 -

I'm glad standard parcels hasn't increased.
I'm guessing they have decided not to put it up because they are already loosing a lot of money to couriers and websites like parcel2go and if they put their prices up for parcels anymore they would price themselves out of the market.

I'd recommend this to anyone that sells in large quantities, go to the RM site, and buy a load of stamps that aren't priced (so ones that say 1st class, 2nd class etc, not ones that say 20p, 50p or whatever) today, so you save a few quid over the next few weeks.
I had a look at the site before I bought the set of 90p stamps and under First Class Large Letter stamps it says:RM wrote:50 First Class stamps for Large Letters: these are items between 240 and 353 mm in length, 165 and 250 mm wide, and 5 to 25 mm thick, and weighing up to 100 grams.
Most DVDs I send out however are about 180g/190g or so which puts it into the 90p range here (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?mediaId=50800722&catId=400029) and out of the 61p range which Large First Class stamps seem to be for (a sheet of 50 costs £30.50 = 61p x 50). Can anyone confirm that these Large First Class would be suitable for a DVD?custardy wrote:just buy stamps of the required value to make them the correct price
they are still worth 90p
Good point, thanks. I'll probably end up doing this.0 -

If your DVDs are between 100g and 250g they will cost 96p (up from 90p) assuming they are under 25mm thick and can go as LL. The 1st LL stamps you bought at 61p last week will be worth 66p tomorrow so you put one of these on with an additional 30p of stamps. The LL stamps increased in value by 8% over this weekend so it was well worth stocking up.0 -

.
No, as MartinDow has said you must still use the correct postage.
I sell mainly books and the standard price for a paperback going as a packet over 250g will now be £1.95, so i just need to work out the best way of achieving £1.95.
so for instance 6 x standard 2nd class stamps = £1.92 plus a 3p stamp. Or 2 x large letter 1st stamps 1 x large letter 2nd stamp = £1.83 + 10p + 2p.
I'll get round to working out a little pro forma for myself and using that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
