Blast. I send out a lot of DVDs by first class and I still have a fair number of 90p stamps left - does anyone know if i can return those to the post office for money-back?
This is why we buy the ones that say (for example) 2nd Large Letter, instead of ones with a denomination on them. If the prices go up, the stamp's still worth enough to cover it.

I'd recommend this to anyone that sells in large quantities, go to the RM site, and buy a load of stamps that aren't priced (so ones that say 1st class, 2nd class etc, not ones that say 20p, 50p or whatever) today, so you save a few quid over the next few weeks.

every year without fail, they whack up the prices.. annoying but shame theres no alternative..
I'd love to see you hand deliver a letter to someone 300 miles away for less than a quid. The prices are fine by me ;)

Just reminding everyone again, we don't want endless people traipsing through here on Tuesday asking when the post went up!

If you want to go to a PO and use the current postal rates then you need to do it tomorrow, make the effort if you have anything heavy, or if you have a number of items as in some cases the postal increases are fairly large. I was planning to stamp everything and go round tomorrow just before the sorting office closes and get the whole lot receipted.

EDIT: Worth remembering as well that 'insurance' against loss increases to £41 from Tuesday (100 x cost of 1st class stamp) and , you could knock me down with a feather, recorded goes down from 75p to 74p.

Is that enough to tempt you to change your stance on CoP vs recorded ?!

Nope, not for a 1p..I wouldn't mind a real tracked service though, but I doubt they could offer it at that sort of cost.

lol its good for the soul to share :p
  • Hi Soolin,

Just curious, but what stamps do you buy for sending £1.85 packs. Do you really put 4 first class stamps on and then buy the difference at the post office?

I feel this is the most stupid question ever and will probably regret asking it, but I've just come to the end of a long week and just woken up :o

I do weird and wonderful things with maths, for instance 3 x 1st large letter stamps = £1.83 so that plus a 2p stamp is £1.85.

I haven't done my calculations on the new rates yet, but whatever it is I am well prepared with 1st and 2nd class (normal and large letter) stamps. I also use a lot of denominated stamps and buy them in sheets from Royal mail online. I have just bought about £400+ of stamps which shoul dkeep me going for a few months hopefully.

I have taken to stamping all my post and taking it direct to the sorting office (sorry custardy-delivery office!) with a COP and they just take the bag of items and stamp my COP. If I have specials though I still use a Post Office and i never allow the delivery office to stamp my parcels as they often forget and I end up with my parcels all being delivered with no postage. My delivery office could not be more helpful if they tried.
