I have had to change the colour scheme for my brothers wedding....it was originally lilac and white and she was going to get one of those wedding dresses off Ebay in white.
Now the colour scheme is going to be almost a burgandy and white as she found an absolutely gorgeous floaty dress in a charity shop for £5. It is brand new, still has all its labels attached and is designer...only problem is that it is an almost burgandy red!
It is not a first time wedding for either of them so not wearing white is no biggie and she does look gorgeous in the dress.
Thank goodness I hadn't got round to ordering the napkins or colour matching the plates.....I had ordered the balloon displays but that is easily changed as they are not made up until the day and I am a regular customer on behalf of my family (so regular I now have special rates!)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Well it's not really a theme, just a few balloons, a few plates and a few napkins but in different colours to match the dress.
It's all going to be done for well under £200.We made it! Not going to have the wedding meal a few months ahead, so they can check it's what they want/like? Not got a planner? What about flowers.... for the church, the car, the pews, the bride, the bridesmaids... and matching flowers in the venue, and on the tables .....
Oh - and disposable cameras for everybody ....
It's unbelievable the stuff they come up with over there. I go just to read what they've dreamt up next.0 -
Hehe, I know.
Nope, it is a home cooked buffet, reception being held at my parents house (and no marquee, might put the gazebo up though) and people won't have set seats...just find a space and plonk yourself down with a choice of the sofa, the armchairs, the garden chairs or the kitchen seats...oh and not forgetting the pouffe!:D
The flowers are cheapo artificial ones for the bride only, house has enough house plants for greenery and we can always put some bright kiddy toys amongst them for colour.
As for the wedding planner....that is me, I am planner, bargain finder and organiser (and witness on the day). Eldest son is best man (wearing his work experience suit), brother is wearing his full kilt which he has had for many years and they are not having bridesmaids.
Cameras? Pah, most phones have cameras nowadays otherwise it will be the good old ones me and mum have.
No church either, it is one of the local register offices which they will get to by cadging a lift with the guests.
And because it is on Christmas eve, no begger is staying too long at the house afterwards, so no oodles of alcohol needed either! (I can't drink as I need to drive home so that I can drive there again on Christmas morning....I can't afford to pay out for a taxi)
Seriously though, luckily, they want a small wedding with not much fuss, especially after they lost their baby a couple of weeks ago...neither of them are into all the pomp and ceremony that usually surrounds weddings nowadays. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. A lot of old building don't have much in the way of foundations. Round our way, there are a lot of Edwardian buildings that have so-so foundations for the main house, and virtually nothing under the bay windows at all. The result is that the bays tend to slip away from the main house. It's all on shrinkable clay subsoil, too.
Sounds like the housing stock round where my parents live. Their bay slipped away from the (late Victorian) house in the drought of 1975 or 1976 or whenever it was.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
We did registry office and no guests not even family, just turned up at work on the Monday after the Saturday wedding wearing a wedding bad to my colleagues surprise - oh and obviously 20k extra off the mortgage that we could have blown on a single day that neither of us would have really enjoyed. Don't worry when the 20k is eventually spent I am sure it will buy something a lot more romantic than a wedding day tooI think....0

My mate had a "full wedding", night before in a hotel, wedding at the hotel, room/evening do/disco in the hotel, couple of bridesmaids, wedding night at the hotel. Had those chair cover things (I really have something against those), her wedding cost £7k, which she put on plastic and made sure she paid off as promptly as she could. So it was all paid for before she got pregnant at least, which was about 8 months later.0

Our wedding was a shoestring job. By timing it with the church Spring Flower Festival we didn't even need decoration in there, but nobody told us it would also mean the heating would be off! It was a raw day and one elderly relative was taken ill.
Everyone walked to the church, except the bride, and as the buffet reception was in the church rooms, (all home cooked stuff) we just walked there as well. The best man was a professional photographer, so he had two roles, except for the Best Man shots, which were done by Mrs Best Man. (That's why the one of us looking at the ring shows we're valuing it at around £3, judging by our faces!):rotfl:
Our budget ran to three days in a Teignmouth Fawlty Towers-type place, where one of the staff stole virtually all the money we had left. The owner was very unhelpful, so we visited the local police, where we discovered not only that our experience was far from unique, but also that said owner was head of the local Victim Support group! Luckily, we discovered £4 in a back pocket, which, in those days, was enough to buy petrol for the return journey.0
