I gorged on books this week, (my travelling treat is new books)...Got the Long Song, No and Me (which I thought was good), Tiny bit of Marvellous (terribly disappointing) and Parrot and Olivier in America. Then we got some non fiction in Italy...too many to list- ranging from archetecture to cooking and food...a lot of food ones, and too many to carry, the handle on my very smart case ripped off under the weight :o:oI love travelling because of the book fest but have read enough for a month while travelling back yesterday.

I've been gorging on books too these last couple of weeks because come the end of the weekend, my nose will be stuck in study books again every night.

I was very naughty this week and treated myself to book 3 and 4 in the Shardlake series by C J Sansom and they were brand new too...it felt so good :D. To the person from this thread who got me into them....many thanks, they are brilliant as it satifies my thirst for crime mysteries and for history which has also always been a particular fancy of mine, although strangely, it has always been early 20th century history, pointedly WW2 and concentration camps. So for me to find a liking for 15th century history and want to know more from reading a crimer thriller, well it surprised me.

Something different for us happening this weekend but I will let on what it was on Monday....better safe than sorry eh.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I'm getting fed up with my neighbours' OTT fireworks. They are more like munitions. And I bet a couple of guys think it's a really great idea to wait until midnight and then have a fireworks display. My upbringing makes me very uneasy about this almost-literally burning money.

    Snap!

Been going on next door now since 6.30 and showing no sign of stopping...all made worse by playing of very loud music to accompany it.

Son has won another school art award (again for last term's work, now he's dropped art). Last term it was the Art awards, this term it is the school prize day and he is runner up in the Art department. It's being presented to him and we have a letter instructing us to buy a book, "of lasting worth and interest and likely to provide continuing pleasure". It does not have to be related to Art. We then give the book and receipt to school and they reimburse us and present the book at prize day. Suggested value is £15.

Any ideas? He reads very little, aside from the fact he's doing A level English. Typical 16 year old boy, he said he would prefer a DVD instead!

No ideas sorry but congratulations to your son!

My eldest decided he wanted me and his grandad at his presentation for his awards in RE and resistant materials next month....my dad got all emotional when eldest asked him.

I've not been to one before and I am having kittens on what to wear! Although it does give me yet another excuse to decorate my crutches in weird and wonderful sparkly things.

I own a wee bit of land which includes an even smaller bit of beach, we are doing the whole bonfire thing there. It's a kind of bring your own BBQ kind of night.

I honestly wouldn't bother, I am seriously not sociable, but I find myself with two small girls who I want to be happy.

LIR, knitting is really easy, all you need to know is how to cast on and knit plain and purl. Everything is a variation on a theme

You have your girls with you?? That's fantastic. How long for??

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I am not entirely sure.

They were in care until a v young social worker actually read their notes and phoned me. It took a couple of weeks after that before they gave me my girls. All of which I spent in a travel lodge in an extremely boring part of England.

Their mother is having "difficulties" again. That's SS words not mine.

I would like to say that it is done and dusted and the girls will stay here forever but given what I have learned about Social Services, I am anything but sure.

All I can say is they are here now. Safe, warm and remembering what it is to be dreadfully spoilt.

I try not to think too far ahead

OK, more specifically I have been shown how to several times by my mother... and I get more and more tense each row and it gets tight and more like felt :o:o I'm quite decent at things like embroidery. I can even make simple lace on pins, but knitting just seems to leave me in knots.

Good news about the other stuff, I hope for them, and you, its long term.

Erm, it might be better to find someone who isn't your mother to teach you. It might be a bit like getting relatives to teach you to drive... not always a good idea.

After all, it doesn't matter, if it comes out crap, just give it to a relative you don't like. They'll have to pretend to like it. It is a win win.

:) I like your optimism....I do get encouraged to try again every now and then. I'll take it up when the world structure collapses, it'll give me something cheap to do ;). I taught DH to drive.....point taken.

    You're living my dream!!

There is a house I can buy, that has a private beach ... but the reality is different to how that sounds... it's a private beach, yes, but for the whole estate. Oh .... and it's actually quite a long/muddy walk down to it. Then when you get there it's quite stony.

So it doesn't count - and I'm not buying one there.

And reading backwards up the thread... d4mn... I see I could have invited myself to your party tonight ... check out the size of your beach :)

And I'd have built a big sandcastle to keep the tide out. And brought down some little paper flags to stick in the top.

And I'd have been uber-organised and brought a beach shelter and hot flask of coffee too.
