My DD2, now at art college, finally had a meeting with the Learning Disability Tutor yesterday, having handed-in her Dyslexia Institute assessment and taken a battery of their own tests. The guy looked at her and said, "You're quite severely dyslexic, aren't you? Still, you cope pretty well, considering."

This was a milestone for DD2, who never had her disability officially recognised at school. Now, it's a case of, "Here, have a dictaphone, a laptop and some nice speech-recognition software. Oh, and don't forget, you qualify for free photocopying!"

All lovely, of course, but wouldn't it have been nice if someone had said 'You're dyslexic' fifteen years ago, rather than deny it because there was no money in the kitty for such things? :(

I have no idea where anyone* lives, even if they have mentioned vague locations I never recall them.

*Except carolt, but only because she is in the vicinity and michaels in the big town up the road. and vivi must be vaguely near, possibly same county.

The good news is I've got a new car.

The bad news is that its raining and I need to go out and do a few errands, the car parks will be crowded and I'm nervous of parking it in tight spaces.

    No sign of carolt?

I assume you all know where I live.:)

I went to see a phenomenal firework display in Wolverhampton this weekend. £3.50 to get in, a kids display (brill), then the fire is lit, then a 20-30 minute main display set to music. Have to say that every year they excel at this, do the council. Can't understand why anyone (especially anyone mse) would waste a fortune on some damp squib fireworks when you can experience what I did saturday for half an hour for £3.50!:)

Sunday I went to see Ardal O'Hanlon (dougal in father ted) do a stand up show. A proper giggle-a-thon!:D
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I know why we used to do it.....youngest couldn't cope with the crowds. We did do it very MSE though, everyone brought some fireworks with them so each person still paid less than going to an official fireworks display.

We don't do home fireworks or go to official displays now....home fireworks because I am not keen on lighting them myself and the boys are too young to do it (ex hubby always used to do it while I kept an eye on the boys) and official displays because youngest still wouldn't cope and it is too blooming expensive down this way (think a tenner for an adult)

Anyway, our different weekend...we went away to an end of season ball at the site where my parents have their static caravan. We thought it would be cold in the caravan so took thick quilts and lots of warm jumpers but it was warmer than my house!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
