I went one year to the Bodmin display, £X to get in - and there was an army of parents/kids heading towards the controlled gate. I turned round and walked up the road - found myself a lovely spot under a tree completely overlooking the entire display ground. I had all the space I want, had a fabulous vantage point - and for free. As for my entrance money - I spent that on a half a cider in the nearest pub when the display finished.... while the army of parents/kids would have been jostling still to get out.0 -

I have a friend, who several years ago was very seriously ill. Indeed so ill, that there were times when that person (& those of us around them) weren't sure if they'd make it through the winter.
My friend was always quite childlike, in a really lovely way. Autumn was their favourite month - the colours, the leaves, walking the streets with the "crunch crunch" etc. They loved bonfire night.
During their treatment, they had to be kept very safe from infections and the like. V little strength remained too, so going out in the cold & standing around was a no-no. As were crowds.
By their house is an alley that leads to a big green space, which is a large slope. It gives a view (fortunately) of quite a portion of Birmingham, as where they live is quite high.
That year, I gave my car a thorough going over, & packed a flask. Went round & knocked the door, pretty much dragged em out under a little bit of protest, & drove down this alley, parking at the end of it. I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to be there - the alley is probably for access for grounds maintenance vehicles & pedestrians, but I assumed not many vehicles would need access.
we were able to sit there, in the relative warmth, supping tea, & at least with a little comparative comfort & safety, & my friend was able to watch the firework displays covering half a city - a combination of the big displays, and the little ones in peoples back gardens.
A nice memory...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Yes, real MSE'ers don't buy fireworks. They go up to the top floor and watch the neighbours'.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

I hve ANOTHER cold.
fed up of it now. No sooner feeling myself then I'm thwacked around the immune system with something else. In fc I'm so fed up I have decided to go out to get an Indian takeaway tonight. I feel decidedly in need of self indulgence and spice.

I might be "on the move", got a viewing Wed morning, 100 miles away, rented. Won't say anything more than that except I get the impression there's more than me going - and they pick, I don't choose..... but you never know.
Having to fill out forms, always a pain as my life doesn't fit forms... which then makes you look "odd". One of the questions on the forms was: If self employed, name your accountant and 2 customers. I don't have an accountant, I have no customers. Does JK Rowling have customers? No.... and neither do I.
So it can all look a bit "odd" when you fill out forms that 'expect' things to be the way they view the world... and from where I am sitting the world's a different place.
On the plus side..... having fabulous increases in incomeI'd just not "taken it seriously" before as I always assumed I'd "get a job", but there are no jobs to get. Having said that, had an email today (on somebody's list) about a job. Thing is: I applied for that job before - and didn't get it. Then they re-advertised and I applied again, they never said a word. So then I applied for it through an agency ... and still didn't hear a word. So why are they emailing me again? This is the 3rd time the job's come up. The job says there's a 3-month probation period - and every 3 months the job comes up again.
Obviously they're loonies to work for so I won't feel I am missing out by not actually applying this time....0 -

When we lived in Bath, we had the free ones for the Festival close to our house and the other one for Bonfire Night was easy to look down on, being at the rugby ground by the river.
This just left the University one, on top of a hill; easy to get into but hell to leave afterwards. It could take 45 minutes to clear the car park. Then it would be impossible to buy fish & chips for ages afterwards, such was the rush.:(
We solved the last problem by accident. Having a dog that didn't care about fireworks, we took her with us in the car, intending to walk her in some nearby fields first, but when we tried to turn right, into the country lane, the traffic policeman shook his head and pointed to the 'Road Closed' sign. I blurted-out, "But we've got a dog in the back!" which was stupid, but the sort of daft thing one says when careful plans are thwarted. However, with those magic words his manner suddenly changed, and he waved us through....
It was only then we realised that the RSPCA dogs home was 100m down the lane and, although it would have been 'closed,' dogs come in at all hours.:o
I'm afraid we repeated this a few more times, though we never claimed to be going to the RSPCA. We just pointed to the dog, who was given a window seat for the occasion. The lane had plenty of parking spaces, and it also led to the main road, so we could be in the chippie long before the big rush at the end.0 -

That is exactly what we did in the end....but then got bored after a short while.
They were going for over 2 and a half hours! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Nothing like a good curry when one has a cold. About the only thing, along with chilli, that can always be tasted.
Don't know the Indians where you are, I'm afraid, but we had some good ones in Bath. Here, despite the apparent isolation, we can be inside a curry house within four minutes, but alas, it is not very inspiring. The next nearest is 12 miles!:(0 -

Hmmm.....100 miles from there puts it in Somerset, East Devon, or maybe even Dorset.
I'm assuming it's not the Scilly Isles!0 -

We've tested the local and its ok. The Chinese was yuck though. In the end though I decided I feel too grim to go out so I'm making something spicy out of left overs:o0
