Talking about websites, thank you PN, we've got it up now but we need to sort out hosting and getting it designed properly, which is going to be a problem.
Don't suppose you want to do SEO for my domain?0 -

Don't suppose you want to do SEO for my domain?
LOL.
Yeah, it's easy ... but not. So much choice. No idea what it all means, eh! Me too... it all has to come from defining exactly what you want and then finding a fit.
I've got hosting down to two now: eukhost and bluehost. First I have most of my stuff on, second one I'm just starting out with them as I've had a single page hosted for over a year and I am about to develop a whole new site from scratch with them.
SEO... I could. What're ya floggin' luv?0 -
Tonight I decided to bring together a few bits and bobs to change something and the way it works. What I wanted to do was to get one of my sites autoblogging... that means "writing itself". Now, this means a lot of bugg4hing about, to be honest.
First I had to find a way to get it to autoblog, researched and decided to try feedwordpress. So, installed that. Then picked a couple of feeds and popped them in. Then I decided that was utter drivel, so I added in 3 different types of feeds, but to get the feeds I wanted there I first had to create some new feeds using a thing called pipes.yahoo (don't go there, it'll blow your mind).
So, armed with my 5 feeds that are going to automatically write my blog itself, I pressed "do it then". And it's pants.... it really is.
Firstly, original source attribution was missing, so I found a plugin for that - and it needed a shortcode. Thing was, the shortcode didn't render (technical term for: it didn't work), so I tracked down some random php code I felt was the right stuff to grab and pasted that into the template file at a place that kind of looked about right.
Well, it was about right and now it's all set up. So now I have to wait until the morning to see what happened overnight and take it from there, more fiddling that means.0 -
Not sure there is a market for builders welly boots, ever since the handy builders belt was invented, the bottom has fallen right out of the market*.
I think there might be a market for pink girly welly boots, but that's just me.

Is not related. You can get viruses from web sites, but I am pretty good at running a tight ship, and I would have noticed if MSE had any resident viruses.OK, well, ifyouasknicelypasturesnewwillprobablydexplainitinrealenglish
.
Or, maybe I can do it? ... the reason I think if you actually have a web site you should pay a little bit of money to have it hosted by a professional company is that it means the website will stay up most of the time, and the company hosting your web site won't go bust. There are ways to have a web site that doesn't cost much money to set up.
I am quite interested in what this new business will do, basically, because I am a bit of a nerd and businesses excite the nerd in me.

I am not Martin in disguise. However, I have gizmos set up so that if I ever click on a web page with a virus on it, I get a dinky little warning. I also routinely go through google, which scans web sites for viruses, and is pretty good at warning you if a web site has been hijacked. I also have my system set up so that it runs a full virus check every day.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Quick question for the helpful peeps.
Anyone aware of where I can get an idiots guide to using the tube? Me & a friend are visiting. The friend has minor mobility issues, so we will be reliant on the tube. Having never used it before, it is alien to us.
Cheers! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Do you mean "The London Underground"
"Transport for London"
Don't forget there is also the overground.
I recently needed to get this question answered:
"Is it possible to get a lift to street level at Limehouse rail station"
I ended up talking to someone in India.
(The actual answer is "on the up line yes - you chat up the bloke at the Docklands Light Railway barrier who allows you to use their lift to take your bike onto the "all bikes are banned" platform and then down to street level. However on the return journey on the down line you struggle up a huge flight of stairs)
So don't believe everything you are told or find on the web sites.
Do any of you qualify for a bus pass? Most buses have a head up display showing where you are and many (annoyingly) keep on telling you their number and where they are and where they are going.
An oyster card is convenient and saves money - sometimes they give them away free (you still have to load them with money)0 -
Thanks John,
I think I mean the underground. Neither of us has travel passes or qualify for concessions. It is only for a 2-3 day period.
To be honest, it is less about the cost, more about how to use the thing. IE how to changes between lines & that work? How does the tube work in practise? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Depends on the mobility issue how practical tubes are IMO. TBH I find tubes hard going when I'm ''sore'', even stations with lifts, though I never use the special access. The escalators/lifts are great, but there are almost always more steps, whether its one or few, to the platforms and for me, one or two big steps up on to bus are often easier. But I like the tube ..out of rush hour.
Have a good time LJ.
re shanges, it depends on each station, some are flat/sloped, some are steps/escalators.0
