    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd not have wooden windows. Firstly they do need more maintenance than uPVC - and secondly I stayed in a new build house that had double glazed wooden sashes fitted - and they didn't keep the noise out at all.

Houses for courses..or bears for houses ;) I hate uPVC. That's why we have choices!...well, we don't have the choice here, but if it were a problem we could have not bought it. :)

I keep getting drawn back to this http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.showadvert/index-1032648483/a3f3e106.html

If I had a bit of land near there I'd be up for having that.

Its getting cold now...it might help change your mind. I've spent (very little)competing etc time coping in the (smaller) living of a horse lorry when tbh its never that comfortable. I'm sure the really deluxe ones are great, but very expensive. Also, think about how much harder it is to drive as you get older.

In our old street it wasn't conservation area and a few of the Victorian terraced houses were ruined (imho) with upvc - we used secondary glazing film in the winter and where we extended had new wood fitted (admittedly not sash) which was draft proof - I understand if you use the right paint products and care they do last more than a few years but few do it as it is more hassle/expense in the first place.

Our new road is 1930s and even though I love wood I think it would look out of character for the property and street.
