I've not been outside really. For days mostly. Curtains shut in my room as the sun makes the screen unreadable.
Big news round here .... we'll have a tiiiiiiny Asda by the end of the month. Life's simple pleasures. Used to have to go 20 miles or so for an Asda or Tesco, meaning it didn't happen because, after all, it's only a shop. You can get beans anywhere.0 -
We are getting a Morrisons, good news as its competition for Tesco. Bit 1980s. Their own tinned sardines, are good, they do a boneless/skinless which get harder to find now elsewhere. Meat range also seems decent...easy to find stuff like oxtail, livers etc.0 -
It's blooming chilly here, my feet feel like ice....but at least it is dry.
I'm not in the best of moods, I need to speak to someone who has experience of teenage Aspergers as middle son has become violent again and all the old calming methods and distractions have stopped working. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Their value tea bags are good, unlike the Tesco ones which taste like dishwater. They also have a habit just recently of doing buy 1 get 2 free, very very handy if you have a larger family as it means you then have enough to put away for future meals for the same price as one meal.
Edit - Also value yoghurts, mouses, fromage frais and pannacotta....kids certainly like them and pennies really compared to the normal brands. We made it! Violence comes from frustration, because you're not being listened to. Proper listened to. Actually listening... not hearing words and applying your own meaning to them, which is what usually happens.
Not being understood, then being dismissed and over-ruled, while feeling you're not being listened to. The words are hard to find, to fully explain what you mean (which is why it takes 20 sentences to say something like "yes").
Everything's part of a system, there's a reason for everything and the reason for a behaviour/choice/desire is because of the way you can see things.
It's 100 questions/answers to listen, not one.0 -
Thanks Tomterm.....not sure another forum would be the right place for me though, I think I need more professional help as they are suggesting most of the things I already do and have done since his aggression last reached a peak. My problem is that back then, I was still able to just about restrain him but he is now a similar height to me, weighs more than me, is way stronger than he was (and he had super human strength when he was a wee tot at primary school) and I am now weakened by arthritis.
I'm just not sure who to contact as we have had no contact with specialists for him for quite some time in regards of his Aspergers...we have been pretty much left to get on with it ourselves.
I know boys especially with Aspergers tend to have more problems in their teenage years because of the confusion with all the hormones running riot (more so than a normal teenage boy) but it is how to deal with it - the removal of using a laptop unless for homework, his pocket money, television rights etc (he cannot be grounded as he has no social life - something else which is causing problems) have no effect on him at all.
I really do fear for his future, more so than the supposedly more affected younger son as he is unable to decide for himself when to wash, bath, clean teeth, change clothes etc, he can't time keep, he doesn't want to socialise, has extremely poor short term memory and at the moment, is not willing to use his aids for memory (endless lists, a memory book, reminders etc). I am trying to teach him to be independent (as he wants to go to university) but he is battling against it whilst also moaning that I will not let him be independent (yeah I couldn't work that one out either).
Unfortunately, if I just left him to get on with it, he would end up festering in clothes that have not been changed, skin that has not been washed and wandering off with any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry who asked if he wanted to see their puppy (he has absolutely no street smarts and just thinks everyone wants to be his friend without seeing any malice in them).
The trigger for today? He couldn't put his clothes on in the order he wanted to, so he punched his elder brother (who just happened to be closest) in the back and tried to whack him with a skateboard. We made it! It's strange, but I went away and slept on Michaels's thread last night and also on the Gen and carolt thing. I don't like disharmony at all. I don't like it when chucky and carolt fight, as they are people I respect, I don't like it when really2 and gd fight for the same reason and I hope that Gen and carol both continue to post, albeit perhaps being a bit more sensitive to the views of the other in the future.
The more I think about Michaels's point about racism, I think its more of a general trend towards intolerance and disharmony.
To summarise we have:
Gen Yers vs Baby boomers
Private sector vs public sector workers
DINKYs vs parents
People on benefit vs people on higher rate tax
Everyone vs the bankers
Lots of others I've missed out...
I don't like this divisiveness at all. It is clear that everyone is going to suffer cuts but picking on someone on the grounds that they are different, whether its race, religion, social standing, intelligence or anything else is wrong. If people have a right to be here (whether born here or not), and are legally claiming their entitlements we should get over it. Rules that are clearly silly or anachronistic have to change - a council house for life being a prime example, as is paying people to have lots of children - but there's no point it tarring all council house tenants or all benefit recipients with the same brush.
As an aside, the next census is coming up in 2011. Thinking on michaels's point, I wonder how many of you are white and have families that came here in the last 60 years. Your great grandparents may have moved here and you may be second or third generation to be born here. Do you consider yourself British? Of course you do and you would tick said box on the last census in 2001. So why would you have to tick a box that says black Caribbean or Pakistani if your family came from such a place many years back. It breeds divisiveness and black and asian people who were born in the UK have as much right to consider themselves black british or asian british as I do white british. I hope the government change this stupid anomaly for the next census.
I'll now step off my soapbox and apologise to lir. Sorry lir. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
