  • Hope you don't mind me asking but how long do you stir your tablet for? Everyone I talk to seems to stir for ages and I only stir for about 10/15 mins.....and it's really pale and delicious, not so good for the old bathroom scales though!

    Hi nonnie

With the recipe above you just stir a couple of minutes using an electric whisk.

It's far easier in the microwave than a pot and, and, and.. i want some now :EasterBun

    :D
  • Just finished making some and the kitchen is smelling so sweetly....aaah! I melt butter, add other ingredients, bring to boil and simmer for 10 mins(stirring) then an electric whisk for 3 or 4 mins and sets within minutes. How do you make it in the microwave?

    Ok listen up...

    Microwave Tablet

    2 ozs Butter

    12 ozs Sugar

    Small tin of evaporated milk

    5 mins at 750

    Stir

    5 mins at 750

    Stir

    3 mins at 750

    Beat with spoon until stiff.

Tips: Don't let it get too dark or too stiff. It should be able to spread in the baking tin. Leave it to cool properly, over night if you can resist :D

I've had loads of different recipes of tablet over the years but that's as good as any.

    Everyone must try it

Pastry case? Or sponge flan? If the latter, yum.........:p

We went to friends for lunch. The sweet consisted of a pastry case with tinned fruit in it and jelly made with the juice from the can. A layer of custard on top, sprinkled with hundreds and thousands. Talk about nursery food! But we all had seconds. :o

Sorry, to interrupt, but hard evening. Too much to do, not achieving anything noticeable, house in a state. :(

Know I don't have lir's/davesnave's type hassles re housemoving like worrying about sewers and fuel and sort of basic things like that, no poo to shovel and no animals to feed...can't imagine how they cope with all that.

Still, just having one of those days where normal life gets a bit on top of you.

More brilliant organisational tips needed, please. Can't face the washing up mountain, fed up of mounrains of washing...keep doing it and yet there's more, yet the weather's too miserable to hang it outside...

I know this is no great shakes, not up there with major economic disasters, or even small personal problems; it's just the very small stuff that makes up life.

But it's all a bit tiring tonight.

Anyone feeling inspiring? Or just had a better (or worse?) day they'd like to share?

Carolt, I get those days often! don't need poop or oil shortage to feel desperate. ATM my house is a state...had planned to clean all day but ....computer is here, and I've missed you all and dh's aunt died this morning, so didn't do more than the bare minimum outside to be near the phone. So please don't think tht other's get it perfect!

A technique I learned while recovering was baby steps. Tonight just do 10 small things. Just ten. Separate washing (1) shove a load in (2)hang/tumble it (3) and so on. Prioritise your ten: hoovering will wait unless there is broken glass....are there sheets on the bed? Do you have the bare minimum to get out in the morning...enough cutlery/crockery for breakfast and clothes ready?

I've only had a tumble drier once, and loved it, but live very well without it. But it does sometimes feel like a chinese laundry. In this weather when washing must be done then sometimes its the lesser evil to put the washing on an airer and turn on a radiator/eating to get it dry.

Cobble through a few ays, doing ten little things at a time, until you can grab OH/kids to help beat home into submission.

Longer term develope a love for lists! Fly lady on old style is sort of how I work, but they are too fast for me, makes me feel very inferior.

You need one or two of these:

I've got two of the Dunelm Mill version of these, they are great. Never need to worry about weather again and don't take up much floorspace. For optimum drying, only hang a item on every other notch.

Actually, another thought Carolt...think about eating extra specially nutritiously and warmingly now the weather has changed, and I've just finished a week of the tonic designed for mainly ''older people'' when they have a cold or flu; it really helps pick one up. Cold foods on dreary cold days is ..well, not... invigorating or sustaining. I'd suggest that some nights, regardless of mess, a good bath and nights sleep is number one for efficiency and sanity.
