Yep, diagnosed with lower spinal arthritis 10 years ago and a long history of back problems (1st slipped disc at age 15). I too have a deformed spine, born with it so nothing special to me but it does make it more unstable, especially as I also have hypermobility (very handy in my younger days to weird people out or get through very tight spaces)

I'm the opposite way round with movement, the more I move around, the worse it gets, to relieve it, I need to rest...and rest is just not possible!

Thanks for that, I'm just in a feeling sorry for myself mood at the moment.

I'm not surpirsed...it would drive me nuts not being able to get around and being in pain all the time.

I have been seeing an osteopath for the past month as I have a severe pain in the neck and nerve pain in the upper arm...for 2 years it's just gradually got worse and worse. Saw a GP in Brighton who just shrugged it off...said to take ibuprofen.
Got to the point recently that it was waking me up 5 times a night so I then decided I had to go sort it out.

Turned out to be stress related :o. Apparently when we say someone or something is 'a pain in the neck' it's actually a phrase that has come out of fact.

If you want to get an alternative opinion from one or a chiropractor and can't get it on the NHS, drop me a PM.

Sympathies, Sue - not what you need right now (or at all). I know back problems can be dreadful. My only experience was like fc's - a literal pain in the neck that in my case only lasted (mercifully) for 2 weeks, but was definitely the most painful thing I've ever experienced - wayyyy worse than childbirth etc. Made me understad Kafka's Metamorphosis - I felt like a beetle, because once on my back I literally couldn't turn over or get up, without unbearable knives of pain.

Thankfully vanished after a couple of weeks of strong painkillers, as mysteriousl;y as it had appeared.

fc may have something, though - could yours be worse due to stress, too?

Good luck with the doctors and keep focusing on that light at the end of the tunnel... :)

For stress related pain, take an over the counter muscle relaxer, like red wine. :)

I did try a relaxant whatsit........didn't do anything really but red wine is a daily fix :D

She just pulls me about, prods and stretches me....feels weird after a couple of days...like you've had an intense workout but right inside the body.

Other stuff...I do some excercises and shout at myself to Relaaaxxx if I get wired....which then makes me more wired.

I think Sue's is from physical problems though being wired and under pressure tightens everything up even more.

I'm pleased that being 'attacked' (:)) by an osteopath works for you fc. Red wine seems to be a miracle cure for many ailments. :)

I would relax by sitting in the gym Jacuzzi after a workout. However, many have closed (for H&S reasons?), plus I don't get time to for a workout nowdays.

If Sue's physical problem is homocycsteine related, b12, b6 and folic acid might help? The vitamins also aid in warding off brain shrinkage; not that Sue needs help in that dept. :)

Bah, I cannot stand red wine...not that I drink that often anyway (once in a blue moon is an apt description).

I get the stress thing in the neck and shoulders too, I find a relaxing bath, a Touch of Frost DVD and a nice cup of English Breakfast tea does the trick.

I think my problem is more physical than stress related, although stress doesn't help...already having a dodgy back has not been helped over the years by having to restrain middle son when he was younger, having various attacks of kicking from middle son, coming off a motorcycle a few times and falling down the stairs too many times to actually count.

Malcolm - Eh? Not heard of that but willing to give anything a try (as long as isn't contra-indicated for my pain relief) And thanks for the brain comment...not feeling so 'bright' right now but that is probably more sleep related than anything else.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've made a discovery. I can browse the internet whilst riding my (life fitness) recumbent exercise bike.

    40 minutes so far.

Today my subject was "art galleries", to write about ... well, I've never been in one.... so it was tough... and I made some mistakes because having decided to write about art galleries, I realised .... I should have photos of what's in them and know what those pictures were. Doh. So, had to skirt round that bit :)

It's hard writing stuff, on demand, to order, to deadline, about things you don't know about, have never been to and have no interest in whatsoever... but I am using this framework of a contest to produce a wide volume of work in a short time. I did 5 yesterday, on family friendly visitor attractions (already number 2 on Google for my targetted keywords) - and 4 so far today on art galleries, deadline's 8pm tonight, so I might pump out one more art gallery, or I might "cheat" and create an index of the four I've already done and talk fluff about them for a few paragraphs then provide links out to those 4.

I really do make it all up .... and it's all fluff. Online, pointless fluff.

    :)
