I caught a bit if this recently Peckam Finishing School and the whole thing didn't sit well with me at all.
OK, it was all a bit set up for telly...anyone else see it?Four privileged young ladies swap the leafy lanes of the Home Counties for the streets of south London to experience for themselves how life is lived on the other side of the tracks.
When they first arrived, Stephanie, Cat, Serena and Claire moved into an ex-council flat, explored the area and almost immediately fell out with their Peckham 'sisters' - the four local women who've volunteered to act as their personal guides for the week.
Now it's Monday morning and next on the curriculum is work. For the following five days the posh girls discover what it's like to do unglamorous jobs for very little money. The real challenge seems to be bridging the class divide with their guides, who are not impressed to hear that one of them has been described as 'looking like a chav'0 -

Me too....and a nice central London pad with a helipad on the roof. I don't like heights though so maybe not.:o0 -
I put one of their albums on my mp3 player a couple of weeks ago, but the bl***y thing's gone and broken.
"It's a sin" and you may be saying "what have i done to deserve this" and it could have at least given you "one more chance".
Like i say to all the "London" "west end girls", you might as well "go west" to "suburbia" and take up "domino dancing"
I'm cwap at this but Muse were good :A0 -
Eldest got in late, exhausted but happy from his job yesterday.....happy because he had lots of pounds in his pocket from a full days work (12pm-9pm).
He now believes me when I say how satisfying it is to have earnt your own money instead of it being given to you, he said it gave him a huge buzz to go into the shop on the way home to buy some drink, where he realised that this was money HE had got by his own hard work instead of money his mum gave him...and he felt so proud of himself.
He left the house at 8.30 this morning (eldest up before 12 on a Sunday, never heard of!), to be at work for 9.30. Goodness knows what time we will see him as he is working on the sea front and it's going to be busy busy busy today with all the nice weather (although it will dip while the England match is on).We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Speaking of Glasto and stuff, anyone gone to Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park this weekend? I went to Jamiroquai's warm up gig to 700 people in some grotty old club made from railway arches on Thursday night, but my god he was good. It was a real, old school concert, hot, sweaty, standing. Wonderful. Wanted to hear how it transmitted to the big stage. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? This week I cried on the 'phone to my mother for the first time in years...she's not the type of mum you cry to. Not meaning she's unsympathetic but has a very practical 'get on with it' mindset.
Seriously, what you've gone through with the shop and stuff, you've always struck me as someone who, to use a worn out phrase, when life deals them lemons, goes and makes lemonade. You've got every right to be upset at times, you've spent the last year in a total state of upheaval, from schooling, to shops, to moves, to big contracts, to fabric not being delivered... Even the strongest among us cry at times, do you know what, I bet that includes your mum too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Think my days of going to rock festivals are over although in my day, it was only really Donnington and Monsters of Rock I went to. I did go to lots of gigs though, Iron Maiden, ACDC, Queensryche etc until the boys were born.
Now we stick to local gigs and even then, it has only really been in the last year or so and at events where children are welcome and it is outdoors so the boys are not so stressed. We made it! Morning all, no fc I didn't but I wish I had, will check and see if its still on i player or the itv equivalent. I have a weakness for posh girls/women, yes I know, pathetic, sigh....:)"If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -
I've never been to a festival, gig or event. They sound awful. I don't "do" crowds, noise, confusion and uncomfortable surroundings. I have to have my little zone, that's mine.0

Out of interest pastures, do you like music? Some of the greatest pleasure I get from music is listening to it by myself. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
